We have stayed here on many occasions and thoroughly enjoy the location, facilities and enthusiastic service.Plus it`s great value for money! Its location near the port and promenade makes for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Some very good Restaurants are just round the corner, especially Porto de Lado and if you fancy a good evening stroll, the Old Town is well worth a visit food wise along the prom. We stayed in Room 3 in the old House which gave us a fantastic view of the bay.All the staff without exception are friendly, enthusiastic and make you feel like returning which we have done frequently!Marisa stands out for efficiency and warmth. Previous reviewers comments about how dated the hotel is are a tad unfair and to compare it to the 5 star Savoy(not 4 stars) is simply wrong. The value of the room rates indicate the very decent holiday one expects here! Yes,if you stay in many of the new hotels(4 stars+) found going past Reids towards Camara de Lobos, you will find a more typical Tenerife/Spanish collection of ugly, high rise complexes but totally lack the charm of the Quinta de Penha de Franca and its brillant proximity to the town centre. Most of the good hotels in Funchal are located high up and involve a fair amount of walking and basic fitness to access all attractions in both your hotel and locally. Its no good complaing about access when simple research by the holidaymaker will reveal all!! Covid wise, the Quinta deserves 5 stars for assisting us in arranging our pre departure tests in the town centre.Well done. Funchal Airport deserves full marks for the ultra efficient arrival service to vet us for covid.…
Poor service No pool bar No free room service Breakfast minimal and poor quality In need of refurbishment No information in room Tea and coffee chargeable Location at the foot of a mountain with sheer drops all around. There are no warnings when booking about location so someone who is disabled will not be able to get around without using taxis even mobility scooters unless very powerful will not get up the very steep slopes This is the first and last time we will be staying here
This hotel is badly overdue a complete overhaul, the general condition of the hotel can be classed as tired (there is even a hole in the lift floor, see pic). The staff are lovely and a special mention to the pool guys who work very hard. Another observation is that the pool is used by the locals and at weekend it's impossible to find a sunbed despite being a paying hotel guest!! I have stayed at other 4 star hotel in Funchal (Alto Lido) and there is no comparison. The Savoy Next, which is also next door and has recently been updated is a much better 4 star hotel...stay there if you like the location.
Been there to have lunch, since my daughter went for a diving experience! Nice place, friendly people, the food was very good. Will recommend 100% and come back again for sure. Many thanks for your kindness.
the hotel was nothing like a 4 star room was ok we were put in room with no balcony first but I asked to move it was very small for 2 week holiday so moved to room with balcony aircon didnt switch off properly so constant noise through night rooms very dated breakfast was same every morning we always went early but food in silver trays were always cold best part of hotel was pool area it was well looked after apart from that would not return
