Our suite was wonderful, generously proportioned with a huge private terrace on the sixth floor overlooking the Ocean, capturing the Sun the whole day. Reception staff enormously helpful when we needed it with a problem not of their making. Indoor pool is a big asset. Convenient location for many good local restaurants too. Highly recommended.

Just returned home from a lovely, relaxing stay at the 5* Melia Mare. From entering to leaving the hotel after seven days we could have not wished for more.Very swift check in by reception.Very polite & when we arrived at our room our bags were there.Only dined in the restaurant for breakfast but could not fault the staff or selection of food in anyway. We used to have a couple of hours around the pool every morning before going out for the day.Spotless round the pool area due to a very friendly pool attendant working tirelessly. When we returned to our room at lunchtime the maid had been & everything was "like new again" I would recommend using the Malo spa clinic to make your holiday even more relaxing. We had a lovely stay at the Melia & was blessed with some very sunny weather. The views from the sea facing rooms are such a tonic, especially first thing in the morning when having a coffee sat looking out. Very sad to come home & leave some lovely friends we have made over the years at the Melia hotel but returned home very relaxed & refreshed. We will be returning in late Sept to the Melia Big thank you to all concerned Mr & Mrs R.Morton

Dear Valued Guests Mr & Mrs Morton We're all smiles on this end with yet another fabulous review from you and sincerely appreciate your taking time again to post and share your feedback and comments. We are delighted to know that you still choose to stay with us and remain loyal to our brand. We very much appreciate your long lasting support and loyalty over the years since the beginning of Meliá Madeira Mare and it is not without saying that aside from being one of our special loyal guests, you have indeed also become good friends of ours and most certainly part of the Meliá Family here in Madeira Island!.. We're also happy to know we continue meeting with your satisfaction and look forward to welcoming you back in September. For now take good care and thank you again for your preference ! With kind regards and best wishes

Upon our arrival we were met by a very charming and helpful young lady. Her male colleagues were very polite, too. We were assigned our sea-front facing room including a terrace. The room design and interior met our own personal taste. Even the bathroom was very well designed. Full five star rating for the room, however a closer look shows maintenance is needed. We wouldn`t have mentioned this, but 5 stars are not allowing short cuts. The bathroom, no complaints but staying there for a fortnight the space for the minor essentials is just not good enough. For ex. the hairdryer suspended "operation" shortly after being turned on. The in-room information has a potential to be improved. We had breakfast included. Their buffet was spread all over the restaurant and impressed. A closer look however, showed there were no fish dishes (maquerelles, sardines etc.) offered. Their selection of sausages offered were at least to our taste of rather poor quality. The Chef should take a look at the buffet instead of the finance manager. A wide selection of various bread, but the most important bread should be given more time in the oven ... They offered a wide selection of hot dishes. The same applies for juices, coffees and espressos, teas and they even invited you to take a toast to a new nice holiday with a glass of wine or was it sparkling … We had dinner upon our arrival and joined in for one of their evening buffets. But we were not impressed … again, they try to be friendly and service-minded but the restaurant staff is just not used to a 5-star level. We had our dinners in primarily 3 close by the hotel located small restaurants. The evening-entertainment is various and by all means, quite nice. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and have no major complaints a part from their 5 stars !

Just returned from a 10 day stay and have to say the Melia Mare is a great hotel. Brilliant location on the sea front, 20 minute walk into Funchal and surrounded by lovely restaurants and bars. Our sea view room was huge, as was the bed and the breakfasts are fantastic. We didn’t use the gym or the spa but swam in the indoor pool every day. We practically had it to ourselves. We intended touring the island but we were so relaxed in the hotel that the car stayed in their garage the whole time. There is lots of room around the outdoor pool but there are also lots of other little terraces around the hotel and most days we found a little sun trap away from the pool and read ourselves silly. I would easily give this hotel a 5* rating we’re it not for one major gripe and that is their bar facilities. There is a large lounge area outside the restaurant called the Piano Lounge which would have been great for an after dinner drink but it is only ever used for private functions. The only nighttime place to drink is the bar by reception which is a bit soulless and doesn’t open until 7.30pm. Most nights you can catch a local musical act here or watch the TV. If you want a drink during the day there is nowhere apart from the small pool bar and that means plastic cups and glasses and I really object to drinking out of plastic. If you want to take a drink up to your balcony you have to carry it all through the hotel. A real pain. I can’t think of any other prestige hotel I’ve stayed at which doesn’t have daytime bar facilities other than the pool. Fortunately there are lots of nice bars around the hotel with great views but it would have been nice to have had the choice to drink in the hotel. Other than that, great staff and buffet dinners with deserts which are irresistible.

Stayed for one week as a birthday treat with my husband. Nice clean hotel. Lovely side view from our room. Breakfast was very nice. The only problem with our stay was there was 2 very large party bookings at the time. The hotel were more readily to cater for these parties rather than individual couples. I loved Madeira and we were perfectly situated. The lido bars, especially “Qasbar” were perfect. I would not use this hotel again because of the fore said, but will be returning to Madeira.
