Amazing place hidden in the middle of nowhere and thanks to Joanna (and her colleagues) you will feel here like at home already few minutes after arrival! It’s our first holiday with a 9months old baby and we are really happy we found this beautiful farm ;) highly recommended not only for families
Quinta do Pantano is a must-stay location! We stayed here for one week over Christmas 2020 and we just loved every minute! The location is great, an easy 15 minute drive from the airport, situated on the edge of the village of Santo da Serra. It is up in the hills so can be quite a bit colder than down on the south coast and the weather is not so good but it is very quiet and peaceful. It makes a great base for exploring, and as the island is small so it is no problem to reach all parts of the island from here. It is only a few minutes walk into the village, where there are at least two minimarkets with a good selection of food, two or three restaurants, several other shops and friendly locals. The farm is a really beautiful and peaceful place to stay. It is easy to find and there is parking there for several cars. We stayed in the ground floor studio, it has a main entrance at the front of the room, and double doors at the back looking out over the grounds, with table and chairs outside to enjoy the calm in the morning and evening. The room is huge with a big and comfortable double bed, comfortable chairs, dining table and chairs and plenty of storage space. The best feature is undoubtedly the wood burning stove with an abundant supply of firewood - the evenings were slightly chilly in December (although certainly not as cold as we are used to in the north of England) so this was very welcome! The small but functional kitchen is well equipped with fridge, microwave, hobs, kettle, coffee machine, toaster plenty of crockery, kitchenware and utensils and some basic foodstuffs, tea, coffee etc. Breakfast is self-catering with milk, eggs, cheese, meat and homemade jam provided in the room, and fresh bread is hung on the door every morning. Everything was very clean. The wifi is good - there was a problem with it one day but this was sorted out straight away so not a deal. And last but not least, the hospitality was fantastic. We only booked 36 hours before arrival but Joana was so welcoming, both on WhatsApp beforehand and in person when we arrived. She gave us a lot of information about the local area and the whole island, she was always available on WhatsApp for any query right throughout our stay and went out of her way to make our stay memorable. And even the cat was super friendly! Thank you Joana, we hope to be back some day!…
I stayed here for a week in October 2018 and loved the place. There are just several rooms and cottages and rented one of the cottages to have some more space and privacy. Great views, clean and very good breakfast which they bring at the end of the day or early next morning. Very friendly people and great base to explore most of the Island. As it's a little higher, temperatures are somewhat lower and that's a bonus in most months as you avoid the sticky weather at sea level.
We had a really great time at this beautiful accomodation! It started with a very warm welcome and kind introduction into our room/house and the area by Joanna. We had the small house which is very modern and clean. The kitchen is good/well equipped and there is an oven. We had an own part of the garden with view into the green/trees. And kind "neighbours": horses eating the green beside our terrace, an alarm c(l)ock and chicken behind the house. The breakfast is not a prepared breakfast in a dining room but every afternoon the stuff for breakfast was brought into our kitchen: Bred/balls, fresh eggs from "our" chicken, fruits, cheese/ham, milk, great homemade marmelade. If you have a car you live quiet and wonderful - and you can get to every other spot on the island with ("Madeiran") ease ("up and down"). We will be back - to Madeira and Quinta do Pantano! Obgrigado...…
Quinta do Pantano was excellent. Great convenient location, a nice area and grounds and a lovely authentic house. The breakfasts were fresh and plentiful. Excellent value for money, highly recommended.
