It's Friday night and I drive with my family from Lumiar ,Lisbon after a cool Uber ride on good scenic road for about 45 minutes to spend the week end at The 5 star resort of VILA GALE @ Sintra thats about 6 km away from The Sintra National Palace.
First impression is always a lasting impression and this resort presents a real imposing and cool picture with great view of the palace and the verdant hills
This resort though in pretty good public demand and difficult to get booking unless booked early especially AR these times of summer holidays ,we managed to book a spacious apartment just across the main entrance that boasted of two comfortable bedrooms with double bed ,a living room again with extra bed, dining table an attached balcony over looking the main building and the hills all round .A fully fiited out spacious kitchen withvall.modern gadgets to cook a good meal completes the live in area and comes with two car park in basement ad well .
Well mintained a garden with manicured lawns fountains ,3 restaurant , free WiFi, 3 swimming pool with one indoor completes the facilities this 5-star hotel has to offer in addition to other standard features that go with a 5 star rating .
Checking in was a breeze with staff offering all the required inputs for us to enjoy a comfortable weekend.
The experience of a dip in the pool and enjoying draft beer and fruit juice from.pool side bar was a giid start to our holiday.
Dinner at the Buffet restaurant was excellent with Chef JoĂŁo Afonso churning out a great spread doing a great justice to lovers of Vegetarian ,vegan and non veg clients with adequate variety for each .
On a busy weekend ,their restaurant Manager Hernany Aniceto with able support from Asst Mgr Guillerme Simoes ensured all the diners were seated comfortably in their spacious restaurant with a welcomr warm smile in their face . I am sure all the guests must have enjoyed their dinner with contentment with copious supply ,Variety and quality that cist a guest about 29 Euros if not booked along with accommodation and want to keep their option open to cook in or eat in their A la carte restaurant .
This is indeed a great place to.put up your feet with family n kids and weather being just right at thus time of the year at Lisbon and I would recommend this to my followers for a good holiday !

The hotel is located quite far outside the historic city center. You need a taxi or an Uber, but the prices are fair. The architecture and design of the hotel are very upscale. The rooms are also tasteful, but as already mentioned in other reviews, there is no private bathroom. The sink is in an alcove, on one side of the room it is separated by the large shower with a swinging glass door, on the other side facing the outside corridor is the toilet, which is also only closed off by a swinging glass door that is open at the top. This looks stylish, but is not particularly user-friendly, also because of the lighting conditions at night. The hotel is super clean, the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The buffet food was good, the breakfast buffet had a large selection of fresh ingredients. There are plenty of free underground parking spaces.

Hotel is a large modern complex on a hill surrounded by nature, ruins the whole view there and totally does not fit into the environment, that could really have been better. Is too far from Sintra, taxi needed or by car. Speaking of cars, there is parking on site and a very good large and free parking garage under the building. Reception was 'Portuguese' friendly and by that I mean: a bit hypothermic, a bit businesslike and without cordiality, 'professional'. Shower yourself cheap and not appropriate. Large and dark room, impossible to read in bed - is a habit of ours when traveling -. We asked for extra lights at the reception, they promised to look into that and yes, they may still be working on that... Large and comfortable bed. Safe. Terrace with 2 chairs , view of a hedge . Good air conditioning. Fickle wifi, should not be allowed in a 5 star loft Reasonable bathroom with shower cubicle and WC separated by glass. Good pool with plenty of sun loungers and good service , towels, bar... Fitness is very limited and not cozy. Restaurant only worked with buffet formula, there was quite a wide choice and a different accent was laid every day. We ate there 3 times. Food was often just cold and here and there quality left something to be desired, e.g. steaks -live cooking , fried while looking at them - looked like shoe soles. On the other hand, it was not expensive, it is always the same, you get what you pay... Same for breakfast, omelets cold and poor quality, no 5 stars at all. Hospitality staff were extremely friendly, but sometimes too friendly and too familiar. Furthermore, searching for someone who effectively understood or spoke English, once caused mobilization of the entire team to resolve a misunderstanding about a glass of wine, yes nice but really should not.

The positive The facilities with a heated pool and the location that makes it possible to go by taxi or similar to Sintra or Cascais without being prohibitive. Free parking.
The Negative · Being a 5* hotel, it is not because of the facilities, it is because of the service provided that makes it stand out and this is not the case, when ordering dinner in Room Service they brought it to us without covering the plates so They arrived cold and walked through all the corridors of the hotel, they did not offer to set the table for us with dinner, they only gave us the tray at the door and ran away without explaining if at the end we would leave it outside the room or call again. The unmade room at 1700 hours after having left it at 900 hours to go sightseeing, and the response they give us on the floor is that those who check in have priority before the clients who stay, by claiming that we They make the room, they just make the bed, leaving the nightstands moved in the middle of the room, and they change the towels for new ones, having left the towels wet or something wet on top of the sheets and we find them wet. When we called reception to change our wet sheets we were still waiting for someone to come. The bathrooms have a modern open style with a glass screen that does not close completely, leaving the toilet and shower at half height, which, although it gave privacy, did not prevent the noise from being heard in the room every time the neighbor used the toilet, which The same thing that would happen to him with mine.

The hotel does not have the capacity for the number of people who were staying. The number of staff was insufficient and they provided little support to the children. My grandson injured his foot and the monitor did not provide assistance despite it being requested by the child, and he had to turn to us for treatment. The football field was closed and the monitors and reception insisted on redirecting people to this location when it was not possible to go to other activities, despite its closure, causing frustration for parents and children. The kids club's opening hours are too restricted and children could not visit spaces outside of them, the swimming pool for example could only be visited from 11am to 12pm, just one hour per day. There were no bathrobes for all the children and the pool was always overcrowded. The children's menu at dinner was terrible and the children couldn't eat it, frozen hamburgers with an artificial flavor. The rooms were dirty, with a lot of dust and rubbish on the floor. It was a disappointment and definitely not worth the price you paid.

If you like obnoxious, loud, screaming children, this is your place. The hotel and service people were very nice, but the hotel is too far from town (15 euros by taxi from the train station and town center). The food was very expensive, but the rooms were modern and very comfortable. Bruno who works in the restaurant was an exceptional employee, friendly, professional and very helpful. The indoor pool and spa (which by the way was broken the first day of our stay) was beautiful but usually filled with obnoxious, loud, screaming children which made it impossible to enjoy in this echo chamber. The rooms and halls were, again, filled with obnoxious, loud, screaming children. One night until 12PM. Sound deadening was not a priority when they built this otherwise beautiful hotel. The breakfast buffet was top shelf, but the atmosphere was ruined by obnoxious, loud, screaming children. See a pattern here? The food and service were great but too noisy to enjoy. If your plan was to enjoy a restful stay at a wonderful hotel set in a picture-perfect setting with a great view of Pena palace, you might want to look for other options.

Medium-sized family rooms with microwave and refrigerator. We stayed in a room close to some machines that made a noise similar to a dryer that became annoying. Exaggerated buffet price per person (27.5) which for a family of 4 would be a high price for a meal. Beautiful outdoor pools and fantastic landscape. Indoor children's pool a little cold. Zero Activities for children over 10 years old. Bar without animation. Overall the hotel is beautiful but I expected more. You can just rest.

We had a great time during our 5 night stay at the Vila Gale Sintra. I’ll start with the pros of the resort.
The property itself is beautiful. The pools, the scenery around the hotel are amazing. The family room layout was great for us. It was essentially what appeared to be what used to be two rooms combined into one. The large balcony was great for sitting out at night. The sunset was spectacular from our room. The kids activities were great as my kids got to enjoy the carousel, playground and trampoline park. Be aware though that they only open these at certain times throughout the day. The breakfast was great and had a ton of selections.
There were a few cons, the first was the buffet dinner. It was quite expensive at 29 euros per person and the options werent great. They only really had one meat and one fish that they were cooking and there was a line to wait in if you wanted it. We only ate dinner there the first night. The room was partially refurbished. The carpet looked older and the sliding door within the room kept coming off the tracks. And the bathroom was a little odd in that the vanity was open to the rest of the room. So if someone needed to use the lights for it they would light potentially wake up the person in the room if they were sleeping. Then the WiFi, while it worked well for the most part, kept having to reconnect to the network. This happened on both my phone and iPad several times each day while I was there.
The location of the hotel has its pluses and minuses. It is a quiet resort away from the city of Sintra. And it’s also located in a place that makes it easy to get to the beach and Colares. But there isn’t anything else right around the hotel so you need to rent a car or take an Uber to get around. We took and Uber and it did work pretty well. Nothing is within walking distance and the nearest bus stop is a 20-30 minute walk away.

This is a fabulous hotel located in a rural setting, a bit isolated from any town or beach, so obviously you´ll need a car. It´s not your thing if you want an urban hotel. Its contemporary facilities are Impressive: everything is huge, sleek and impeccable clean. The room was rather big size, with the bathroom being divided in different modules for the shower and the toilet. Very good beds. Quiet guaranteed. There´s also a huge terrace overlooking the countryside, although there´s not much intimacy. Views are really nice: at night you can see the Palacio da Pena and the Castelo dos Mouros afar on the crest of the mountain and it´s a very beautiful effect. Curiously enough, they don´t have one but two twin swimming pools, regular sized but shallow, good for a dip anyway. There´s also an impressive indoor swimming pool too. There are many attractions for children -a carousel included- so it´s evident they want to focus in this sort of family public. Being in the countryside, you´ll probably choose having your dinner at the hotel. It´s a good idea that, beside a buffet, they also offer a lighter option, in case you don´t really want to stuff yourself. Breakfast is good but not exceptional. Staff are also very good: professional, fast and friendly.

We went to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, I even put this in the booking notes and they weren't even able to offer a measly €2 sparkling wine from Lidl.
The tissue box in the bathroom was damaged and out of tissues.
In the shower, there was only a 2 in 1, shampoo and shower gel. I've been to 4* hotels with separate shampoo and shower gel, as well as hand soap and cream.
The room was not cleaned well. There were very visible stains on the carpet next to the bed and on the headboard as well.
At breakfast, we were among the first to arrive. The staff seemed like a bunch of kids laughing extremely loudly, which doesn't suit the atmosphere in the slightest.
Everything I mentioned above are just details, but details that make a difference when it comes to a 5* hotel. This small precaution is expected, which should even be a general rule.
Positive points include the reception staff, the incredible view and the extremely comfortable bed.
In short, it wasn't an unpleasant experience, but it wasn't anything like 5*.
