We had 3 couples travelling together. The location is a little out of town, but it is beautiful, a self-contained resort with indoor and outdoor pools, workout room. Very well geared to families, we saw lots of kids. The rooms are large and comfortable with balconies. We ate in the restaurant the first night. They had a buffet, a little expensive, and we ate from the menu. Food OK but small portions. When I mentioned that to the waiter, they told us we could have buffet desserts, complimentary. Nice recovery. And, we got a free bottle of wine, for spending 40E at dinner. It is not that far a drive to Praia Grande, where they have several good restaurants along the beach.

So not everybody has liked this hotel as it is a detox hotel or because it is in the middle of nowhere... well my advice to you is read the description on their website and look it up on Google Maps before you book. Our experience at this hotel was amazing, we will be coming back as soon as we possibly can. At the time of writing this the hotel is brand new (eg sofa bed still had the plastic wrapping on it, and the night receptionist didn't know it was a sofa bed), and as with all teams there are teething problems, but the staff are always so willing to help that the little idiocracies of a team that is learning to work together are easily forgotten and location is so beautiful that the breeze on your face and the green of the surrounding area is so relaxing that it far outweighs the any minor glitches. It is an amazing hotel, kind and attentive staff, beautiful location, fantastic facilities, worth every penny and have nothing negative to say about it. It is definitely a 5 star hotel and gives you that 5star relaxation and feeling when on holiday. Never have I enjoyed a hotel this much.

At the time of writing this, the hotel is not even 1 year old. So I think that the hotel still needs to work on certain areas to bring it up to a 5* standard. The location is stunning. Overlooking the Palácio da Pena, with greenery and nature all around. To get into the centre of Sintra it costs about 15€ by taxi. The staff of the hotel and simply delightful. Very helpful and enthusiastic. The rooms are big and spacious, however, neither of the rooms we booked had bath tubs. The indoor spa pool was one of the best I have had the pleasure to swim in. The only downside was that being a weekend it was a little crowded. We ate at the restaurant on one of the nights and regretted it. The kitchen and restaurant NEED A LOT OF ATTENTION. The night we ate at the hotel, there was no other choice than the buffet dinner. The choice would have been varied had there been enough of it. The kitchen was very slow in replacing the dishes that were depleted. My husband wanted the Duck dish, but after waiting 25 minutes for the empty dish to be replenished, he gave up and went to the grill station to get some steak. After queuing for another 10 minutes he finally got served. Only to find that the beef was not Portuguese, but from Poland. Having read in the news only the week before of various recalls of Polish beef (1st recalled meat contained traces of Ketoprofen, a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug. 2nd recall was by the country’s chief veterinarian, Pawel Niemczuk confirming that nearly three tons of beef from illegally slaughtered sick cattle was sold to ten of its EU partners. Including Portugal) Why would a 5* hotel, that promotes health and wellbeing use anything other than Portuguese beef that is for me, the best. Also, at the grill station, there was a choice of salmon. This was being cooked on the same hotplate as the beef.........No comment. You can work that one out for yourself. The chips too after 20 minutes never got replenished either. My final observation is the clientele at the bar. Certainly not 5*. The bar area had 3 television screens broadcasting a football match. It was full. The scene resembled something out of a tourist bar in Benidorm. The bar was full of football supporters, some in football strip shirts. I don't know if they were guests of the hotel or the outside public. Either way the atmosphere was at the most 2* and was definitely not a 5* ambiance. Again, the location, the staff and the rooms 5*, however the rest still needs working on to bring it up to standard.

Amazing location! Very relaxing - though choose the week days in case you are looking for a relaxing time. It's quite busy on the weekends. The indoor pool is a dream! They have an amazing offer on health programs - detox, relax, anti-aging - to name a few - that may include accommodations and meals. Love the fact that they have an Holistic Therapies department with an amazing offer on treatments - one of the best offers out there. Very friendly staff!

A lovely Hotel but ....I stayed in November 10/11, a hard raining weekend! Unfortunately my room (242) had a box in the wall near the ceiling, were all night the water was falling (night rain)! It sounds like someone was showering all night. It was not soundproof and I could not sleep! It's a five stars Hotel! This is not acceptable... The other negative point is the lack of employees: at the Reception we wait 15mts for check-in and 40mts for check-out; a big confusion at breakfast because no clean tables and at the Bar 30mts of waiting. I email to Hotel's Director to present this and other facts, an till now, a month later, there was no answer at all! I can not recommend this hotel! Vila Galé is good group of Hotels and we are frequent clients so I do not understand this behavior!
