I was so happy I chose this Quinta to stay in when in Sintra. I arrived by train from Lisbon and it was an easy walk from the station to the hotel. I am not sure whether to call it a hotel, it is more of an upscale guesthouse/ bed and breakfast operation. However, it had everything I needed. The room was a good size and very clean. The staff were exceptionally helpful. On the check out day when i returned to pick up my bag that I had left in storage I was even offered some mineral water while I waited for a taxi to go to a car rental office. A particular highlight of the place is the large grounds - there were plenty of places to sit out. The pool area was fabulous with views from it towards the Moorish Castle in one direction and the National Palace in the middle of town in the other direction. There was even a peacock outside my room one day. I stayed 2 nights but there is a lot to see in Sintra and it would be easy to fill up a longer period especially if you do not try to cram in too many palaces or gardens all at once. My schedule was: Arrival day - went to the National Palace in town at the end of the day, hardly any other people there at that time. From the hotel you can go out the exit at the end of the long driveway, turn left and follow the road round past a car park and then up some steps, only 10 mins walk). Next day - walked back to the train station and caught the shuttle bus to Pena Palace. After spending quite a while there took the path down past Vila Sassetti back into town. There would be time to stop off to see the Moorish Castle as well on the way down if you wanted. Final day - after check out walked to Quinta da Regaleira. I forgot to mention that the breakfast was very generous....…
We stayed at the Casa Hostein for two nights while visiting Sintra. Would have liked to stay a week. Great accommodations in a beautiful garden setting very near the center of town. The receptionist was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were very large, we had the suite, which has a sitting room and two bath rooms. Super nice. Breakfact was excellent.
Nice location, just off of the beaten path. It is a beautiful property with great views of the Castelo dos Mouros, particularly at night. Very interesting history to the property. And, the staff are both attentive and friendly. I would stay here again should I return to Sintra and highly recommend it to others. My only complain is the enormous key ring, but I found it more comical than annoying.
We had a nice room on the upper floor, front side of the main building. It was spotlessly clean. Staff were very helpful. Breakfast was exquisite. Don't miss the opportunity to walk the grounds and gardens which were rustic and beautiful. Easy walking to Sintra sights, with good parking so can leave your car and avoid the traffic. Finding the hotel is a bit tricky, tucked down a tiny side street with minimal signage. Google maps has the correct location which helps.
We visited Casa Holstein at the beginning of November and whilst the weather wasn’t perfect, the location of this beautiful hotel and service received was. When we arrived in the early hours of the morning we were greeted at check in by a chirpy member of the team. Check in was simple and we were even offered a hot drink to welcome us. The room we were given was beautiful. At the lower end of the site (number 11 I think) with a little private garden where the resident peacocks wandered. It far exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was lovely. The room where we ate was so quiet! There was a selection of hot and cold food - Again we were only expecting pastries and cereals. On the second day we spotted a couple of ants in the bathroom. When I traced where these were getting in, there was a tiny crack above the skirting board. We called reception for a solution and a couple of minutes later Suchal (forgive my spelling) arrived with some ant killer. We were happy to stay in the room but Suchal insisted that he would speak to his manager. Some minutes later, Suchal returned and insisted on us moving to a new upgraded room in the main building. We packed our bags and moved into a gorgeous room in the main building (number 3 from what I can remember). It looked like the Honeymoon Suite and was stunning. We really didn’t expect to be moved but Suchal pulled out all of the stops to make sure we were happy :) The rest of our stay was fantastic. The grounds in the Quinta are stunning. If you like dogs, the resident pooch (Tara) is beautiful old girl, deaf as a doorpost bless her. If you don’t like dogs, they offered numerous times to take her to her room. My only suggestion to management would be to look at the gate to access the hotel. I think this was being looked at but the button at the entrance sometimes didn’t contact reception to open the gate. There is a number underneath the button to call reception directly, so whenever it didn’t work we used this and the gate was opened quickly. We are returning to Portugal to get married next year. This hotel is firmly at the top of our list of recommendations for our guests to book thanks to the gorgeous grounds, central location and fantastic service from Suchal. Thank you so much!…
