What a great experience! Check in was relatively easy though a bit tough to find in the village. Staff was great the room was fantastic. Enjoyed a couple glasses of wine in the bar and the views are so spectacular and amazing. How can you go wrong sleeping in a castle built over a 1000 years ago. There are lots of places to eat in the village and the breakfast at the hotel was fantastic. I cannot say enough about the staff everyone was so wonderful we are definitely coming back to Portugal and definitely staying at this hotel again. The bar was a bit of a unique experience as it was kind of secluded and quiet but very intimate and a very relaxing place to enjoy a glass of wine or 2 with my wife.
We had so much fun staying at this castle. The hosts were wonderful. We stayed in two rooms- a king for my husband and I and then a double twin for our kids. The rooms were beautiful, clean, had all the amenities one would want. Everyone who worked there was so nice and accommodating. The restaurant was fantastic. One of the best dinners we had during our visit to Portugal. It was a little challenging driving a car into the the village. There were tight turns that were hard to do on the slippery pavement. But the Pousada team didn't give up on us and came out to help us. The little village is so cute! Great stores and restaurants. We took tons of amazing pics.
There was an event so we had to leave the car outside the walls and take a steep hill to the entrance. At the desk we were offered an upgrade to the tower room. We were pleased with the upgrade, but the smell and moisture in november caused a not so romantic night, not what will call amazing. The diner in the restaurant was ok but some more choice in the main courses could be a plus. ( meat). But the service is very okay polite and fast. Butas experience it a go for if you stay in mind yu step bakc in medivale eperinces at some points
We received excellent service from Felipe today, Monday 14 November 2022. Our room was too warm for our taste, and Felipe tried to assist with maintenance . There was also a sharp odor of varnish, which failed to dissipate. Upon learning of our dissatisfaction, Felipe was able to find us a nice (cool) room in the Castle. My sister and I are traveling together for the first time in Portugal, and Felipe has made our experience in Obidos very memorable indeed. I would like to acknowledge his service and let his superiors know too how much we appreciate it. We also enjoyed a beautiful dinner and breakfast at the castle restaurant. Restaurant and all Staff was very warm and helpful, resulting in a very memorable stay.
I stayed here for the experience of staying in a castle, and I must say I was underwhelmed. First, please note that if you arrive by train the hotel is a very steep walk uphill. It took me about 20 minutes. I had a small backpack. It would not be doable with a larger suitcase. There are no taxis or ubers available. The best option is to call the hotel and ask them to send a taxi. My room was quite small and the bathroom was even smaller. As many have mentioned, there are lots of stairs to navigate. The breakfast is served upstairs in the restaurant. I was surprised that the buffet was not more extensive and that there was no cooked option. The hotel is very convenient to the town and there is an access point to the town wall nearby. When it was time to leave, I asked the hotel to arrange a taxi and they said that I would have to walk about 10 minutes to an area outside the city walls to get it. Yet on the morning of my departure I was asked to share a taxi with some other ladies and the taxi came to the door of the hotel. Not sure what that was about.…
This is not a hotel for anyone with mobility issues. Tons of stairs with no handrails, slippery cobblestones. Our room was small and the bathroom was very tiny. The food was good for breakfast, again, up stairs. The town is nice, lots of good restaurants.
Great service, great location, room was the usual size. We loved our stay. Breakfast and supper was included in the stay. The restaurant area had a beautiful view on both the sunrise and sunset. Make sure you arrive early to get a table with a window. If we were ever to come back, we will definitely come back as we enjoyed the over all experience. There is no parking offered by the hotel. However, there is a free nearby parking around 7 min away.
This castle is very unique and enjoyable compared to other European “castles” that we’ve stayed in. If you are driving, you should know that you can only drive inside the walls of the old city to unload and re-load your luggage. Everything is cobblestone…sidewalks and streets, so that can be a challenge with big bags for a 3 1/2 week European stay. So we repacked what we needed for our 2-day stay in small bags, and left the big ones. Many steps to get to the castle reception, and even further to get to the lower-level rooms, then even more to the restaurant. No lift, of course, so be prepared for some hiking. Nevertheless, the hotel provided help from our parking spot just outside the walls. Morning coffee unavailable until breakfast at 8, so with not even a kettle in the room, I mentioned on my welcome survey that the castle should have at least a kettle…I left to buy one the day of our arrival, since my wife was nursing a cough and wanted hot tea. The hotel responded instantly with a brand new Nespresso machine and pods, explaining that they had been waiting for their order of these for all of the rooms for quite awhile. In any case, we were very impressed with their responsiveness, and willingness to purchase the kettle I’d bought…Bravo! Tourists can view the outside of the castle, have lunch or dinner at the beautiful restaurant, but that’s about it….all of the interior has been renovated for the hotel rooms or restaurant. The town of Obidos doesn’t appear to be that old, but is very touristy, with many cars parked in limited parking areas near the castle. It is not at all like other European “old towns,” many of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites.…
Obidos is a special place, a survivor of thousands of years of human interaction. The castle is still nearly complete, and an effort is made to keep things original while still providing modern hotel conveniences. That said, things are old, so have proper expectations. Accessing the hotel is difficult, with somewhat distant parking down a hill with a cobblestone road walk up. Accessing rooms requires climbing old and worn, imperfect rock stairs with your bags. Staff is ready to help, which is nice. Rooms are fairly large but with old doors that may need help closing. A/C is adequate, beds are a bit hard. Breakfast is good, and dinner is excellent (make reservations). We stayed 2 nights - one might have been enough to say we stayed in the castle, but 2 nights allowed us to visit the surrounding area and explore all the fortress walls and the entire village, as well as have a local dinner in a village restaurant. Must see / stay if possible while in central Portugal.…
It was amazing to stay at this hotel, truly. To have full access to the castle with the little black card and the quaint town just beside, amazing. The staff were very good and eager to please. The breakfast buffet is generous with great service and a fantastic view (with the correct table). They do need a bit more signage for finding the reception area though. The GPS brought us to the other side of the castle (which is the best place to park) but it took me some time to figure out where to go after that. Our room was large with a big bed and there were some welcome food/drink items waiting for us. I would have given this hotel 5 stars but we had troubles with our A/C, it was noisey outside our room because the pop up wine bar was just next to us and the electrical in our room was a challenge (lighting, plugs for charging devices, etc...). I would come back to this hotel again though, it was great.…
