Alecrim ao Chiado is a charming small hotel with 10 large rooms and suites. The renovation was made during 2015 and it has kept the original architecture of the 18th century. The walls are covered with beautiful tiles and the stairs are large, very noble and all in stone. The rooms are all very big, very light and with large windows. The rooms from the first floor are all with balcony.

I can't say enough about this small but perfect hotel. The location was perfectly located in the Chiado area - an easy walk to many of the city sights. Our rooms were large, clean and beautifully appointed. I was traveling with a friend and they were able to put us in an area that could be closed off from the rest of the inn for privacy. Andre was incredibly helpful to us during our stay. The breakfast was lovely. The only small issue was the outside noise. We were there during the Carnival holiday and there was a lot of street noise - mostly people having very loud fun, into the early hours of the morning. Thankfully we both had earplugs - without them I am not sure we would have been able to get much sleep. Aside from that, which is really beyond the hotel's control, I would definitely recommend this special hotel and would stay again.

Our party of 4 (2 couples) LOVED the Alecrim ao Chiado and were so sad to leave. This being our 1st trip to LIsbon, prior to arrival we sent many emails with questions and requests and the hotel consistently provided timely and helpful and clear responses. Being an historic building, there is no elevator but the staff generously assisted in carrying our luggage to/from our room. Our rooms faced the back of the hotel - When the windows and blinds were closed we did not hear any noise from outside (even though a lively restaurant is across the street). We appreciated having a stand up shower and plush bath towels. The breakfasts are Amazing - We still talk about the delicious fresh oj and cooked to order eggs along with tasty pastry assortment. The top prize goes to CLAUDIA who was so helpful and a joy at every interaction.

... is getting rare nowadays, where everything has to be posh, superficial and "bling". Well, Alcerim ao Chiado has this sure taste, made of respect for the historic building it is set in, the attention to artistic detail (you even get a reading room), to comfort (nice, cool rooms), to service an discretion. The location is perfect. Monuments, the river, restaurants and nightlife, everthing is within walking distance. If you are looking for the cultural flair of Lisbon, you surely find it here.

We chose Alecrim do Chiado from the many Lisbon hotel both because of the location and the many excellent reviews. It was a wonderful decision. We arrived in Lisbon after an exhausting three weeks in Morocco. Renato greeted us warmly in very good English and we instantly relaxed. Our room was spacious, bright, well appointed, and comfortable, as were the bathrooms. Because both this room and our second room we were given after our return from a trip form Sintra were at the back of the hotel, they were away from the noise of the busy street. We especially appreciated the Nespresso machine in the room because we are early risers and most breakfasts were not served until after 8 am throughout our travels. The breakfast was just amazing! There was more variety than any other place we had stayed in our travels, far more that we could eat even though we tried. As perfect as Alecrim was, the helpfulness and enthusiasm of the staff surpassed our expectations. The manager, Claudia, not only suggested restaurants to us, but supplied special treats for us at breakfast, even arranging an almond cake for our last morning when she was not working. The rest of the staff was equally helpful, and we enjoyed sharing stories of their lives and ours with them. We will return to Portugal soon and most definitely stay at Alecrim do Chiado when in Lisbon.

Alecrim ao Chiado is a superb place to stay while in Lisbon. Very well located, in the very centre of the town, it offers a quiet and sofisticated holiday.
The room was comfortable and tidy, with a modern and charming style.
The staff is remarkably helpful, kind and hospitable (a special remarks to Claudia, so nice in giving us plenty of helpful advises. Such a gracoius host!).
They serve also a rich and very goid breakfast.
Alecrim ao Chiado is definitively recommended.

I am from Italy (Milan) and I had a really bad experience with this hotel. My friend booked this hotel (a suite!!!), as my birthday present for end of March 2020, without cancellation because we were sure to join Lisbon. Unfortunately ryanair cancelled our flight due to CORONA VIRUS (unfortunately you all know about it) and we asked the hotel if it was possible to postpone our booking to July (hoping that this corona virus will end by that period) and the answer received by the hotel was a “kind” NO.
I think that in this period where we all are suffering and struggeling to survive (in Italy the situation is really bad and the hospitals are finishing the bed places), we all should support each other, without thinking only about business and money. I am sure that I will never go to this hotel, because if you think only about business you could also be the best hotel in town but without sensibility and civic sense you go nowhere!

Dear Sara I am sorry to hear that you are upset with Alecrim ao Chiado. As you can imagine, this is a big issue for all of us. We said you could not cancel this reservation but we gave you a very special rate for another booking. I understand your point if view and I ask you to understand ours. Warm regards Joana

Wonderful boutique hotel. Our room was gorgeous, a huge bed, fluffy towels and bathrobes and lovely Rituals toiletries. As soon as we stepped into the beautiful smelling lobby we were made to feel special. Claudia was so welcoming and helpful about where to go and what to see. We had a perfect nights sleep and a delicious breakfast in our room in the morning. A very special place. We will definitely be back here next time!

A 2-night experience in this cute boutique hotel. Booked a suite room right on the ground floor, it was a beautiful room with vintage stone walls decorated with traditional wooden windows on the large glass windows. It was very spacious and charming. The hotel was manned by a few people but very friendly and helpful. It is situated on the sloping street of Rua de Alecrim which was a doozy at first to stroll into but makes it easily accessible to nearby sites, churches, restaurants and train stops. We had an early tour booked and an early flight the next day that unfortunately made it impossible for any breakfast, they were gracious enough to prepare some snacks. We felt like we were back to being little kids with all the snacks they've prepared for our flight out.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in early October with my parents and my significant other. Both rooms were unique, spacious, and very comfortable. The hotel is centrally located, close to many attractions, restaurants, shopping, and also to the waterfront. There’s a wonderful wine bar/restaurant just across the back street. If you’re looking to stay at a place with a truly local feel, sense of history, small enough to get to know the staff and receive personal attention, this is the perfect spot. With all the beauty, comfort, and lovely breakfast, the wonderful staff is the highlight here. Claudia and her team took care of us like family. Claudia was everywhere, from helping serve breakfast, the front desk, managing and training her team, and helping out in any way she could. We were especially grateful for her kind help with registration for our covid test before our flight to the US. She took the time to register us over the phone, showed us how to get to the location, and even reminded us the morning of our test. The test site was very well organized, and we had our results the same evening. This relieved a lot of anxiety from the stress of traveling these days. We had a wonderful time staying at Alecrim ao Chiado and highly recommend this property.

Alecrim ao Chiado is an elegant but down to earth and reasonably priced hotel. The rooms are spacious and charming, retaining the high ceilings and stone work of what must have been a grand residence in past centuries. The beds and bedding are comfortable, the temperature is right (and can be changed to your liking), the bathrooms are modern and clean with lots of both water pressure and hot water. The included breakfast is very generous. Staff speak English well and are happy to provide restaurant recommendations, printing services, and directions. And they will liaise with other service providers when necessary, saving you the trouble of phoning for reservations or transport. Best of all the hotel is centrally located, just steps from the train station and metro and from good places to eat and shop.

It depends on the floor of your guest room. Ours was on the 2nd floor and we had to walk up two flights of stairs. There are no elevators at the property, but there are first floor / ground floor rooms available so I’d suggest calling or emailing the property to reserve ahead. Also note the breakfast is located below ground floor and requires narrow stairs. The property is so charming - we loved it. BUT, if you can’t do stairs I would choose elsewhere.

No pool, it's a boutique hotel in the middle of Lisbon. However, it's sister hotel, Cash Palmela in Setubal set in the middle of vine groves in the Arrabida Hills, has two pools, and offers an amazing stay in a charming five star hotel.
