New hotel for us - perfect location within walking distance to most places in central Lisbon, valet parking, nice terrace on top floor, very nice rooms (many of which appeared to be recently built). Friendly and helpful staff!
We had an outstanding stay at Bairro Alto. The rooms are beautiful and the recent renovation appears to have been carried out with the highest quality. Meanwhile, the service provided by the hotel was without a doubt among the best I've ever experienced. Management has clearly invested in training their staff, who are courteous, personable, always present, and willing to help at every juncture. Food at the restaurant was also outstanding. The hotel is situated in a fantastic location for visitors. We'd gladly stay at Bairro Alto again. The only suggestion for potential guests is to carefully select one's room, as the description of one of the rooms we stayed in really wasn't entirely accurate. But this was rectified in a more than satisfactory manner and didn't mar the stay at all.…
I travel and stay at hotels very frequently for work, and stayed at four different hotels on this journal that were all priced similarly in Portugal. This hotel delivered incredibly bad service from start to finish. Of all the five star hotels at which i have stayed, this is literally the first hotel that compelled me to post a review to trip advisor. Every comment I make is 100% accurate. First, I tried to book on the hotel website. The prices listed for our two night stay were significantly different one night one and night two. Yet, when I made the booking, the website increased the price to the higher level and charged it for both nights. I called the hotel to ask why this was happening, and they said "we have no idea. Can you take photo of the website and e-mail it to us?" I was driving, so I couldn't do so, and I simply said "can you just offer me the correct rate for the two nights", and the reservation said "sure, we have a promotion, that will give you 10% off for your second night, and 20% for your third night and beyond". So I confirmed. Then, when I checked in, they didn't honor that promise, and charged me the higher room rate that was shown on the website with no discount. When I said that seemed a bit unfair, the manager said simply - that's our price at this time. When i asked if he could perhaps give me a room upgrade or include breakfast, he just said "sorry, no". This was pretty disappointing, and not what I am used to at five star hotels. Next, the room was not impressive at all, with old wooden furniture. While I understand that not all people have the same taste, the room looked very dated. The hotel fitness center consists of a bike, an eliptical, a treadmill and a few dumbells. Not a five start gym, that's for sure. The morning after we checked in, we asked the manager for a nearby restaurant to have a nice lunch. He recommended a place and drew a circle on the hotel map for its location. Long story short - his circle was wrong, and when we finally figured out where the restuarant was supposed to be, the restaurant was not there. The staff at the new place said "oh, that restaurant used to be here - it closed about a year ago". We wasted 20 minutes looking for something that wasn't there. On the housekeeping front, they did not clean the carpet in our room for two days. How do I know this? I know because upon check in, I dropped a small pill on the floor beside my bed. I couldn't find it so I left it. When we were packing for check out, I noticed the pill still there beside the bed on the carpet. Gross. Lastly, we decided to stay in Lisbon for two more days. I asked the reservations officer whether the 20% discount would apply, since we were staying four days in total. He simply said, "no, that promotion only applies if you book all days before you check in - you can't have it now". I noted that the promotion was still on the website and asked why they couldn't provide a better rate. He simply said "sorry". No effort at all to even be polite. Overall, a lousy experience. We checked out and stayed two more nights at another hotel, and the difference was startling, at EUR30 per night less, with a beautiful room and a view overlooking the city in Principe Real.…
The Barrio Alto Hotel and staff never missed an opportunity to impress during my recent 6 night stay. I was celebrating my birthday and traveling solo but never felt alone - the management and staff were very warm and welcoming and went the extra step to make this trip memorable for me. The roof top terrace is definitely one of the coolest spots in town to enjoy a few drinks before heading out on the town or retiring for the evening. The Barrio Alto is conveniently located and easy to find after walking for hours all over Lisbon. My room was spacious , well appointed and spotless. The turn down service was a plus!! Best of all - everyone remembered my name - way to make a girl feel right at home. Thanks to everyone at Barrio Alto for a truly fabulous week. See you soon. Belinda
This hotel was absolutely wonderful. From the staff, to the location, and the amenities. This hotel has recently re-opened, and my mother and I had a great experience. The staff is extremely helpful and just a joy to be around. They have a beautiful gym that I used frequently, always clean. Our room was wonderful with a great view of the square. They had an amazing rooftop lounge with a stunning view. Would definitely go recommend. Ask for Iago if you find yourself there - he's awesome.
