I booked the guesthouse based on the vast number of great reviews online. Well, sometimes, they do fail you. The pros: * The room was clean and large with a great view of the water. Nothing beats sunshine in the morning. * The staff was very attentive and helpful. Big plus. The cons: * WiFi is shakey at best. I...

We arrived by train from Porto into Apalonia Station. We were tired and disoriented. We tried to follow Google directions, but we could not find a key street sign because it was blocked by a truck so we headed off in the wrong direction. Eventually we got directions from a helpful person who pointed us back in the direction of...

I must admit, I had some reservations because I just didn't think it was possible to get a good deal with little money in one of the capitals in EU. However I was positively surprised when we arrived there as we got quite a bargain: excellent location (with metro station just around the corner) in beautiful Alfama; spacious, clean rooms...

We loved the Place!! We got the Canela (Cinnamon) room, which had a view to the Tagus river, like we asked on our booking. And the room was really great! Very big and the bed was really great!! Plus that view!!! The breakfast is a typical portuguese one. Theres bread, different hams and cheese, coffee, tea, milk or juice, yogurt...

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is great and it varies throughout the week having some different things to try each day. The room was spacious and comfortable. It's located in a great area and there're lots of things to see around it, besides at least the room in which we were has a fantastic view of...

We booked the hotel for 6 nights and we felt like home! The receptionists where really friendly and helpful and even helped us renting a car. We can totally recommend this place. Because the hotel is near the metro/train station San apolonia everything can be reached by public transportation easily.

Good location, staff it was amazing, breakfast is good, along all day you have coffe and some cakes. The windows are very thin and this is the reason of a little noises around. You have a small kitchen, with stove and oven, refrigerator,so you can take some cooked food and put into the oven and ready saved a dinner :).

We absolutely adored staying at Sweet Lisbon. Everyone was really nice and we felt very cosy and accommodated from the moment we arrived until we left. Breakfast was good and fulfilling and the rooms are quirky and nice. Great location just a short walk from Sta Apolonia.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
