Room, facility and staff are excellent. Better than shown. Integration of historical artifacts was done very well. Outside the hotel on the way to castle I had my wallet stolen by pickpocket. Very common apparently :( WatchOut.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for staying with us. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated our small museum. The various artifacts from different ages, found during the excavations, are displayed in the medieval cistern that belonged to the Royal kitchens. Other items , such as many XVIII century tiles are integrated in the... More

This is without doubt one of the best Hotels I have visited, and I travel extensively. It is hidden away along cobbled streets next to a Castle. The staff were all fantastic. Literally nothing was any trouble. The maids were friendly and happy, not seen in most Hotels. The reception, especially Anna Carolina went out of her way to assist... More

Love this hotel! At the top of the hill by the castle inside the walls. The city is very hilly making walking a challenge but staying in this area is worth it in my opinion. Very nice complementary breakfast and the patio outside is very inviting.

We stayed for just one night but were sad not to have longer to experience this lovely hotel. It is decorated in an interesting mix of modern and colonial styles with lots of large windows and a lovely sunny courtyard. Our room was a good size, impeccably clean and bright. Good blackout curtains and comfortable bed. There were no tea... More

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for staying with us and for your lovely review. We are delighted that you appreciated particularly the style of our decoration and the sunny courtyard. As you say, there is always tea and coffee available in the lounge, next to the courtyard, but you may also have the making facilities in your room on... More

We stayed at the Solar Do Castelo for 5 nights. The hotel is in a fantastic location virtually in the grounds of Sao Jorge Castle. The rooms are clean, comfortable and of a high standard. The grounds of the hotel are based around a peaceful courtyard and delightful lounge/breakfast room where you can relax and enjoy a drink or breakfast.... More

This is a wonderful hotel in an amazing location next to the castle overlooking Lisbon. The rooms and decor are really high quality and the staff are fabulous. Tea coffee and cakes are available to enjoy on the terrace free of charge all day. The building oozes character and history and you really feel you are staying at somewhere very... More

Solar Do Castelo is a peaceful haven full of character and charm. The staff are all friendly, efficient and helpful. The dining and lounging areas are very comfortable but watch out for the pigeons if you decide to eat or drink al fresco! Our room (in the old part of the hotel) was gorgeous with little, thoughtful touches like an... More

My daughter and I spent an excellent 5 days in Lisbon. If you like an area with great character, narrow, windy streets and walking up hill the Solar Do Castello will be a perfect hotel for you! The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. Breakfast was lovely with an excellent choice of food. The only drawback are the pigeons... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
