Really nice hotel. I hadn't intended going 5 star, but in the end it was the only place I found that really suited, and I'm glad I did.

Big plusses:

++ Lovely, friendly, helpful staff
+ Street is very safe
+Right by metro
+Excellent location for tourists
+Lovely spacious rooms, we were given an upgrade which was much appreciated
+Great pressure in shower, very nice bathroom, sheets, towels and bathrobes good quality
+Bamboo toothrbrushes and teeny toothpaste tubes provided (maybe better separated, so you don't waste any toothbrushes?)
+Blackout blinds, no road noise
+Restaurant's nice, bar outside is pretty
+Its decor is quite dark and dramatic, which I love
+ 20% off restaurant voucher + free drink much appreciated.
+I'm not a 5 star person, usually, so the evening visit by the chocolate fairy is pretty magical

Small minuses:

- Not a fan of the 'signature scent' in the lobby and hallways - I would much prefer it wasn't there. Similarly, the soap and shower gel are heavily perfumed - if I went again, I'd bring my own soap
- The beds are too soft for my liking, but that's a personal preference. There's one giant pillow and one normal sized - would be great on a double bed, but on a single bed, there's not enough space for you and the big pillow...
- Would love if the cotton buds had been replaced and there'd been hair towels too - of course you can always request these things, but it's kind of awkward...
- Breakfast was ok - cooked breakfast slightly oddly flavoured, very salted mushrooms, sweet baked beans - not sure I'd say it's worth €17.50... but good coffee, nice pastries.

If you're staying here but aren't looking for super-expensive shopping/restaurants, etc, do research first as it is a fancy area and you might end up having to go more upmarket than you want to in the moment.
Lovely coffee and Pastel de Nata bakery down the street towards Rossio. Pharmacy on side street just down the road and at end of street.

As you pull up outside you’re greeted by two smartly dressed doormen who remove your luggage from the car boot and then offered valet parking for the car (Which we declined as our Tesla does not have a “key” in the traditional sense) this was no problem as one doorman accompanied my husband in the car and directed him to the car park. What a pleasant surprise to find the secure underground parking had EV chargers for guests which is not mentioned on their website. The reception area was large and dark but the mirrors/lighting/decor counterbalanced this. Our luggage was in the room by the time we got there. Bright, spacious room with a large terrace. Large bed with good bedding and pillows. Complimentary bottle of water and toiletries. Very good sized shower. TV with many English speaking channels. We decided to eat dinner in the the hotels outside garden which was lovely. The sliding doors were open and we could hear the piano player. The food was absolutely delicious (I can recommend the shrimp salad and the salmon with lime risotto and the octopus). The waiter recommended a Portuguese wine (normally we go for Spanish) but it was all good and we stuck with this for the entirety of our stay. In the end we ate all 5 of our evening meals at the hotel as the food and setting was so amazing and peaceful. The breakfast offered was the best we’ve ever had in any hotel. Once again we were able to eat in the garden with beautifully set tables. The food and variety of dishes was outstanding from English eggs, bacon etc to all the continental breakfast combinations, different breads/rolls, fresh honeycomb, various nuts and seeds, mini quiche and of course pastel de nata. The hotel itself is located on a very busy thoroughfare and only a 20 minute walk from the River Tegus passing many shops and interesting buildings. The only negative thing was that we felt the housekeeping service let it down. In our 5 day stay the room was serviced daily but on 3 occasions the water, coffee and toiletries were not replenished and I had to keep asking ~ not good enough when paying for a 4*. This was minor in the scheme of things and we would absolutely stay again for the overall service and wonderful food. Highly recommend.

Great location hotel (walking distance to the center and metro), spacious rooms, good breakfast (although little varied), courteous staff.
I give two stars for a serious fact, which I also reported in reseption: very disappointing experience in a hotel that is proposed high level and with a cost of almost 300 € per night.
In addition to towels in the bathroom we also had bathrobes, the first day used, but not put on the ground (because not dirty). On the second day we reused them and then grounded them, so we could change them. At this point I noticed that the bathrobe I had used and left on the floor had not been replaced with a clean one, but simply picked up from the floor and hung on crutches in the bathroom as if it were a "new one". It made me suspicious, but I was not sure, so on the third day I decided to give it a try: I marked the labels of the dirty bathrobes with a pen before throwing them on the floor. On my return, I found them folded and hung up as if they were new, but they were the same, still dirty and marked that I had thrown on the ground between dirty laundry.
This behaviour is very serious and unacceptable, especially for us who were travelling with a newborn. I immediately reported the problem at reception and requested clean towels, but they arrived only after more than an hour and two reminders.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, no one has apologised adequately and we have not been offered any refund or discount, even symbolic. For a 5-star hotel this type of service is really shameful and UNhygienic for its guests.

Every attention to detail was evident throughout our stay. The associates at the hotel were well trained and delivered flawless service. We appreciated that parking was included in this downtown location and the also charged our car every time it was parked. Breakfast was also included and in addition to the delicious and fresh selections at the buffet, they offered cooked to order eggs benedict or any other cooked to order dish we wanted. I was so pleased that on my husbands birthday they welcomed us at breakfast with a beautiful letter wishing him a happy birthday, Champagne and a tray of the most delicious sweet treats and fruits complete with a lit candle. The location is central and we could walk everywhere we wanted to go in Lisbon. I would not hesitate to return to the 138 Liberdade or to recommend it to friends and family.

Difficult to know where to start as there are so many good things to write about this hotel. So let's start with the staff who were fantastic. Polite, attentive and wanting to please without being over forbearing. Top marks here. Then the hotel itself which is thoughtfully set out with a contempoary design being located in central Lisbon and couldn't be faulted. Our bedroom, one with a small balcony facing the rear of the hotel was very quiet and comfortable with an excellent shower and lovely soaps, shampoos etc. Just one criticism, there is a small ledge to raise the height of the shower with a sharp corner by the toilet. Both my wife and I managed to stub our toes at night whilst visiting the toilet. Finally I believe the most important assesment of a hotel is "Would you go back." We most certaily would.

This charming 5-star hotel, located in the heart of Lisbon’s most elegant avenue, has a beautiful ground floor garden and welcomes its guests with a welcome drink (or an entire bottle of wine) in a restaurant with excellent options of typical Portuguese and Mediterranean dishes. At dinner there's always a pianist playing wonderful songs!
Breakfast offers varied options in buffet and à la carte as well.
Highlight to the staff Mariana (reception), very attentive and efficient!
Gabriela (restaurant), always attentive to the numerous requests, discounting with sympathy and agility and,
In particular, to the manager Cauê, who makes every guest feel special, personally engaged in solving our demands and going further, with a lot of sympathy and competence!

Upon arrival we were given an upgrade to a lovely room overlooking the Avenue. On the second day we arrived in our room with a lovely Christmas gift and personal note. This Hotel is big enough to provide all services required but also small enough to stay personal. Both the outside and inside were beautifully decorated which stopped many people on the street walking past. The ‘doorman’ might be an old fashion service but it adds to the class this hotel sits in. We are seriously considering having some more Christmas holidays here!

We just came back from a week’s vacation in Lisbon where we stayed at Hotel Liberdade 138. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an alternative to the big chains. The room was very comfortable with a nice view of a Lisbon hillside. The shower was open on one side with a rain shower style shower head. Plush bathrobes are provided. The included breakfast had everything you could want from made-to-order omelettes to a choice of pastries and fresh fruit. But the best thing about this hotel was the staff. They gave us many recommendations for restaurants and things to do and were very accommodating. When one of us left a cellphone at a museum, the staff contacted the museum and stayed on the phone with them until it was located. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

For months in advance the staff helped me plan our 8 day stay, and upon arrival all continued to be so helpful. Location wise do easy to jump on subway to get anywhere. We stayed in 804 Presidential Suite, one of 4 rooms on the top floor, which faces the back, so no issues with noise which is really important to us (other than when someone was in the hallway, no carpets and heavy doors, normal for many hotels). That said, during the day there are nearby construction projects. Room is a bit tired, with no modern electronic touches, but bed was comfy. There are two toilets, two sinks, a bathtub and a shower spread out between 3 spaces. To be aware of: breakfast opens at 7:30 which was late for us on days we were headed out early. It was not a cozy room, given the modern style, not a room I would want to curl up in on a rainy day, with an odd round couch. Staff arranged COVID tests from the hotel room, which was incredibly helpful. They also set us up with a wonderful driver, Luis, who took us out for two days in the countryside, Obidos/Peniche/Mafra and Evora areas. Most other guests wore masks in public places, which was helpful.
