Hotel Mundial has garnered praise for its cleanliness, spacious rooms, and prime location convenient to public transport and attractions. However, the hotel's atmosphere is met with mixed reviews, with a call for updates in common areas despite the modernity of the rooms.
The rooftop bar views and varied breakfast add to the positives, but guests have expressed concerns about noise disturbance, maintenance issues, and the overall value, noting high costs and underwhelming service for the price.

Detailed Reviews
Just back from a New year break at this hotel. The location of this hotel is great, very central with Tram and bus stops close. The hotel is really nice and the reception area is spacious and clean. The rooms are very comfy and spacious with a mini bar and safe. The beds and bedding are very comfy and extra pillows are in the wardrobe. The bathroom was nice but could be better if modernised. Sadly the air con didn’t work in the room but wasn’t really needed and the hotel doesn’t supply a iron or ironing room. You have to use the hotel laundry service which is at an extra cost but you have to wait for the items to be returned either 12hrs or 24hrs. My advice is to pack a travel iron, we did buy one from a nearby shop as we needed to iron a few things on arrival. The restaurants are really nice and breakfast is buffet style with both hot and cold food. The roof top bar is a must and offers the best cocktails we’ve had with a view which is amazing.
Will certainly stay here again.

We stayed here about a week and were very pleased with it. The rooms were small, comfortable and clean. There was a safe and refrigerator in it. We had a small balcony that looked over a Square. It was needed as neither the air conditioning nor heat was on, and because the weather was balmy, it got a little stuffy. Opening the balcony door helped a lot.
The desk staff were courteous and helpful. Twice during the week we found a lovely presentation of fresh fruit in our rooms, complete with plates and silverware. It was a very nice touch. The breakfast buffet was very good compared to other European Buffets we have had in other countries. They had hot food (eggs, sausage, bacon, rice), usual continental breakfast items, and the great breads you always find in Europe. What I do not like are the lunchmeat slelctions they serve. European lunchmeat is way too processed.
As for location, the hotel is in the Historic section of Lisbon and within walking distance of many sites, restaurants and shops. Unfortunately they have a homeless problem and most large cities do, and we were pestered by one man one evening. Ladies, best to have no large purse and keep your crossbody close to you when walking. Men, I would not keep my wallet in my back pocket.

Stayed 3 nights in January and had a very relaxing and enjoyable time.
Arrived at hotel around 11:30 and left our luggage with them until our room was ready at 1:30. We were given a room on 8th floor with a balcony and facing the main square . The views were fantastic and helped by the fact that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky for the entire 3 night/4 day stay.
The hotel location could not have been better, and although we bought hop on hop off bus tickets for 48 hours we also enjoyed walking around the city centre where we felt very safe.
There are many affordable restaurants and cafe bars in the immediate area and even in January it was very pleasant to sit out and enjoy a coffee or glass of wine.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again.
Minor criticisms would be that at busy times the lifts would get very busy and even when not full would stop at every floor. The breakfasts in the main were good, with plenty of selection as far as breads, buns and fruit were concerned but the cooked breakfast options were poor and only look warm.
I’m sure the prices at peak times will be more but we found it to be very good value for money.

We have just returned from three lovely nights in the Mundial. The receptionists are very good and very helpful , as we had requested an early check in as our flight was very early and there was no problem. It was great to be able to have a shower and be out in the city nice and early. The staff throughout the hotel are very friendly and pleasant The room was very cozy with a comfortable bed and the bathroom was spacious with a powerful shower. The breakfast was great and had plenty to choose from with both hot and cold dishes, something to suit everyone.
We had an early flight home and it was nice to see tea , coffee and food left out for people like us, a very nice touch.
The Mundial is in a fantastic location close to the city, restaurants, public transport etc. Thanks to everyone there for a lovely stay.
I would highly recommend the Mundial.

We stayed for 5 nights via an offer with British Airways. This included breakfast and one dinner in the panoramic restaurant. The location was faultless, it was central to everything - I would recommend it to others visiting Lisbon.
Rooms: the rooms were a great size. We had a twin so we could separate the beds and there was loads of room for our luggage and importantly - AC! The bathroom felt very dated and needed updating. The shower in the bath tub was ok, but the water didn’t drain very well. The toilet was squeezed in next to the bidet, I would recommend just removing the bidet! The tiles were a bit cracked in places.
Breakfast: the choice was great, we filled up every morning. There was a choice of cooked to continental and also cereals. The staff at breakfast were great, very efficient.
Dinner: we had a lovely dinner in the panoramic restaurant, I can’t comment on value as it was included (as a set menu). The staff were lovely and we enjoyed wine and bubbles!
Rooftop bar: the rooftop bar was amazing for the views. We visited a few times. The food was overpriced and not that great ( we had the club sandwich on the first night). The drinks were a bit more expensive than other places in Lisbon, but you’re paying for the view and they were still much cheaper than London!). The staff were a bit patchy, sometimes we had fantastic servers, but a few times we were forgotten and slow service (you could see other people having the same issue with a particular server who clearly didn’t want to be there!)

Hotel Mundial is a good hotel, don’t get me wrong, it has a warm and welcoming staff, and a nice rooftop bar.
The hotel is located in Baixa district which is the heart for shopping and close to many touristic sights.
Breakfast is very basic, and includes the default selection of bacon, sausages and beans as well as eggs, omelets and a small variety of vegetables, you have some fruit salad and yogurts as well as morning cereals.
The HUGE downside of this hotel however is the BAD acoustics and isolation that my room had. My room was at the sixth floor and I could hear every door slam in my corridor as well as people chatting outside my room as they were passing by as if my room has no door. I could also hear my next door neighbors showering as well as the show that they were watching at the time on TV
Plus, housekeeping staff has an annoying habit of cleaning the rooms while slamming everything to the walls/shared wall and working really aggressively while cleaning.
So if you are the sleeping-late kinda-type take into consideration that you will be woken up from sounds and cleaning noises during your stay.

We visited during the covid-19 restrictions so this review reflects the hotel during that period. It may be different at other times. Our temperature was checked on arrival and each day we returned to the hotel. The luggage was thoroughly cleaned. We had to wear masks at all times in the hotel. Even in restaurants except when sat down. That meant when going up to the counter for breakfast. Limited access to lifts as well. The hotel seems to be in different sections so we had to use one lift to go up to a corridor that we had to walk across to get to another lift to where our room was situated. A bit of a pain. Rooms were fine. Nothing special but very clean and big beds. Everything you would expect. The bottle of water is not complimentary. The breakfast buffet is average. it is advertised as continental but they do serve eggs and bacon. You go to the service area and a member of staff serves you to restrict people getting too close to each other. We were able to eat breakfast on the sun terrace. it was too early for sunshine (shadow) but was nice to have breakfast outside. There is a rooftop terrace. Difficult to find as the lifts dont always work to get there. We did go up one day during the day but too hot to stay there. Chairs are not that comfortable. We did try the main restaurant on our first day. There was a special offer of three courses, plus a glass of wine, for 19 euros. The setting is stunning as you are on the 7th floor with excellent views across the city. However, the food was awful. I would not recommend this restaurant at all. The normal prices are very high and if I had not had the offer, I would have been very disappointed.

It was an interesting experience being in Lisbon and staying at the Hotel Mundial during the COVID-19 pandemic. Having stayed in Lisbon on previous occasions a little way outside of the historic centre, I found it much more convenient to be in a hotel so central.
Considering the restrictions on travelling during the pandemic, it was interesting to find that the hotel appeared to be very full. Mask wearing was mandatory throughout public areas and temperature checks of guests and other visitors were routinely made on entering.
My room itself was of an average size with efficient air conditioning and although it overlooked a busy road, it was quiet with the windows closed. Mini-bar, room safe and plenty of wardrobe space was provided. Very wide range of English language TV channels as well as many other languages. Bathroom was small, making it awkward moving around (my knees were pressed hard against the side of the bath when sitting on the toilet seat!) but I was pleased to find that it contained both bathtub and shower.
I was disappointed to find that two single beds were provided instead of a double bed as requested – although I was aware that this was subject to availability. On querying this at the front desk, I was told that they had no double bed rooms available for that week but they arranged for the bedside table between the beds to be relocated and the two single beds placed side by side. I also mentioned that the shower head holder was broken and they quickly arranged for maintenance staff to repair it. There was another issue with a small amount of water seeping up from the bathroom floor when draining the bathtub, which I had to soak up with a towel and although I reported the problem it was not fixed during my stay.
The hotel had a very attractive large ground floor lounge/bar area but unfortunately due to the pandemic, the bar was not open. The rooftop bar was open however and it was extremely pleasant to sit out there with a view of the city. The hotel has a restaurant on one of the highest floors providing panoramic window views for which it was necessary to make a reservation for dinner. In an age of ubiquitous casual wear it made a change to be able to dress up for the occasion and it was good to see standards upheld on seeing a couple turned away when they tried to walk in wearing shorts!
Because of the pandemic I wasn't expecting a breakfast buffet but a welcome and extensive buffet of hot and cold items was provided with the food served by hotel staff standing behind the buffet counter.
Finally, all the staff I encountered were extremely pleasant and efficient. Overall despite some initial issues with the room I had a most enjoyable stay at the Mundial.

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of April and had a great experience. Very conveniently located to the old city, with Rossio Square, the waterfront and the Alfama District all being very close walking distance. We walked everywhere, including Chiado, throughout the old town, and to each of our dinner locations. There is also a little grocery store conveniently located right next to the hotel where we picked up snacks and water.
The hotel is clean, contemporary and with all the amenities you would need, including a nice indoor lounge and a rooftop bar. Due to the inclement weather we didn't get to enjoy the latter, unfortunately. Our stay came with breakfast and the breakfast buffet was plentiful, including eggs, meats and cheese, an good fruit selection, cereal and of course breads and pastries.
The service throughout the hotel was also excellent. They hotel was extremely busy yet the front desk staff were very attentive and friendly, and stored our bags both upon arrival (room wasn't ready until 3:00) as well as on our departure day. The room was large for a city hotel, bright and clean, and the shower had great water pressure and large, soft towels. The only thing that would have been a nice add-on would be free bottled water in the room, but alas that was not to be. Overall a great stay and we would certainly return to the Hotel Mundial again.

On arrival, we were disappointed with the reception staff who were more interested in chatting amongst themselves and asking guests to wait. In our room, the windows had no sound proofing, so you hear all the street noise all the time. Be aware of hearing fire sirens at any time as the fire station is adjacent to the hotel.
Our room was just ok. However, the water from the taps and shower was fierce and scaldingly hot unless you were careful. The shower was old and outdated. You could not even adjust the showerhead without standing in the bath. I have never stayed in a hotel of recent times with such poor shower facilities. Urgent updating needed.
For a four-star hotel, it was disappointing. There were absolutely no room extras whatsoever. In this respect, it was more like a three-star hotel. I was also amazed to find that there were no tea or coffee making facilities in our room.
The hotel leaves a bottle of water in you room each day with a message "We wish you the most pleasant stay". However, this is not complimentary. There is a charge of three euros. The good news is that next door there is a good supermarket selling everything, so buy your water there.
Breakfast was buffet style and reasonable, but a lot of cold food that had been cooked hot. It was also so noisy inside the restaurant. As the weather was warm, we preferred to have our breakfast outside. However, it was very difficult to avoid cigarette smokers which was a major negative.
Only one restaurant in the hotel was open instead of two, which was quite inconvenient.
This hotel needs an update, and to review what this hotel should offer their guests. It appeared to me that the Mundial seemed to be more focussed on their business model, giving their room guests no extras.
There are better hotels to stay at in Lisbon.

A variety- eggs cooked several ways, different meats, various fruits, cheeses, pancakes, breads, muffins, coffee, juices, etc.
Yes literally downstairs about 2 mins walk! It can be a bit seedy if you go there late at night though but fine if you go during the day, just have your wits about you!
It was a flat 5 - 10.minute walk on the pedestrian street. The street has lovely tile work, shops, restaurants, bakeries etc.
Yes, there are tea and coffee facilities in the room as a mini bar
I think 7:00 is when it starts, but not sure when it ends. They have an amazing selection.
