Casa Balthazar was so lovely. It's right in the middle of everything with spectacular views, but feels like a secret oasis as soon as you step inside. It was perfect retreat with a spectacular breakfast, amazing views, beautiful room and all the amenities you could ask for. It's down a very tight dead end street that was a little stressful...

I have stayed 2 nights in Lisbon, one in Casa Balthazar and another one in Palacio Ramalhete and I can tell that Casa Balthazar is much better. At first, it has a perfect central location with a great view to st George's castle. At second it has a big parking place, which is very important in Lisbon with it's narrow...

Other reviews have talked about the amazing views, the friendly staff, the delicious breakfast, they are all true! The only thing I can add, is to help you get there. Lisbon is a tangle of one-way streets, pedestrian-only walkways, and staircases, and Google maps gps tends to throw up its hands and give up. Instead of telling Google to take...

Great location. Really helpful, friendly people. Lovely breakfast, and secure parking. Really great welcome to Lisbon. Heated outdoor pool added to our enjoyment. Plastic box bushes outside reception look way more healthy than real ones. Think I'll buy some.

A terrific small hotel on a quiet street in old Lisbon. First rate staff, large well-appointed room with a wonderful view over Praca Rossio, the fortified castle and monastery. Wonderful breakfast of fresh fruit, fresh local bakery items, meat and cheese, juice and coffee, all served in your room. The common areas are warm and inviting, as is the small...

Casa Balthazar is a beautiful property in the center of the Barrio Alto section in Lisbon. It is a short walk to many restaurants, shops, bars, and public transportation. Our accommodation was large and well appointed with colorful pictures throughout the rooms. There is a pool on the property as well. You can't beat the views either and the stay...

We stayed in Lisbon in Sept 2016. It was very hot and it was such bliss to return to our apartment and sit on the terrace or lie in the pool. To be delivered breakfast every morning by a knock on the door and to have it set out on our terrace was luxury. The apartment was a short walk...

A fantastic modern boutique hotel, centrally located!! From here one can go all over either by foot or by metro. The rooms are well appointed. Breakfast is served outside by the pool. The staff is very helpful and offer good information of what to see and do. It took us a while to finally get to the hotel with our...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighborhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
