The accommodations at this hotel are good. We rented a suite that was clean and spacious. It had good A/C and sleep quality was excellent. As others have noted, breakfast is served outside on the lawn. The food is good and is well served by an attendant. (I am not sure what Plan B is if it rains.) The street...

Casa Balthazar is a hidden gem at the end of a quiet dead-end street in the centrally located Chiado district. We stayed in the upstairs Terrace room for a week. Our room had a stunning view of Castle St. Jorge. The hotel has been recently refurbished and is elegant, catering to guests who enjoy finer amenities and a quieter atmosphere....

Went for a 4 night city break - not been to Lisbon before - great place. Lovely hotel - impossible to fault. Comfortable, stylish, spotlessly clean, great central location, superb breakfasts. However the icing on the cake was the staff. The ladies in the office/reception were very helpful and cheerful. The star though was Sabin - he seemed to do...

We had an awesome time at Casa Balthazar, travelling there last October. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are unique and nice. Our room had a balcony overlooking the city center. The location is perfect. Nice views, downtown, walking distance to everything.

Casa Balthazar was so lovely. It's right in the middle of everything with spectacular views, but feels like a secret oasis as soon as you step inside. It was perfect retreat with a spectacular breakfast, amazing views, beautiful room and all the amenities you could ask for. It's down a very tight dead end street that was a little stressful...

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighborhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
