This little pension is bare bones, a decent room with necessary comforts without spending a fortune. The host was gracious, kept the place spotlessly clean at all times. The location is fantastic, just three short blocks (5 min) to Rua Augusta, the main pedestrian street in Lisbon with tons of restaurants and shopping. The Baixa-Chiado subway station is a mere two minutes walk on Rua do Crucifixo, the same street as the room. Next door is a quaint and comfortable English Pub that was great for killing time when the weather wasn't suited to walking. Disliked · The pensao is located on the top floor of the building, the fourth floor in Portugal, would be a fifth floor here in the U.S., with no lift, it was a bit challenging with luggage, but we got used to it. If you are looking for 3 star hotel with services and luxury, this place is not for you. If you want a place with a local feel to it, plenty of charm, a great host, and clean, (not even a dust ball anywhere), all at a great price that doesn't bust your budget, the Pensao Galicia is a good choice. I would definitely recommend to budget-minded travelers and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again myself.…
We were booked into the highly recommended pensao on the third floor, but Maria had overbooked and sent us to the Pensao Galicia on the fourth floor. We have never in all our travels worldwide been treated in such a manner as we were by Mr Gonzales. From his demanding for money before we had even had the chance to put our bags down in a room, to his draconian rules about not using the second bed by removing the pillows (which we had no intention of doing) and dictating what time to be back. The sheets, pillows and towels were so old and used, I don't think they have been replaced in decades. Sharing a toilet is one thing, but when only one toilet roll is put out at a time, it is inevitable that it will run out. His constant yelling at his assistant, the late night bell ringing because of his insistence of not allowing anyone to take their keys with them. The noise from the nightly revellers at the pub below were indescribable, and led to no sleep, and even with the window closed there is no soundproofing and no fan…
After our original choice the Pensao one floor lower had a booking problem we were rebooked her. The owner was 'Basil Fawlty like and didn't want guests. There is a bidet and shower in the room but toilets are down a hallway. The rooms are shabby. It is fairly cheap.
Just loved staying here for 4 nights in Lisboa!! The best is the location.. in swankiest part of Lisboa in Chiado. Practically across from Baixa Chiado metro and as central as possible surrounded by upscale shops and charming cafes. But you must not mind climbing stairs as you are on 4th floor. Rooms have their own sink and bidet and many have a cute little balcony overlooking the adorable street. The staff are nicest grandparents youll meet. Place is very quiet, clean, extremely safe. Did have some street noise at night but earplugs took care of that and slept like a baby in the most comfortable bed. Highly recommend!
We stayed at this pensao one night because the pensao we originally booked had double booked our room. No bathrooms in rooms (down the hall), no breakfast, no fans, very small rooms, not very clean, uncomfortable beds, plus we felt seriously overcharged. In short, not fun for anyone who wants even minimal comfort. This is the kind of place we stayed at when we were 25 and doing Europe on $10 a day. Never again, but we gave it 2 stars because we suppose it might appeal to someone.
