This is a very beautiful, cozy hotel where you can walk to the great university park and natural history. The room features high ceiling and beautiful furniture, a feel of home. The negative side is that the bathroom amenity is not so good - no cotton buds, no lotion, for example. And it can smell really bad. However, this is...

This centrally-located hotel in a historical building was charming, comfortable and most attractive. The staff were very friendly and helpful, assisting with restaurant reservations and directions around town. This hotel, formerly a grand private home, is located on a busy street full of appealing restaurants and stores. During our two-day stay, we also enjoyed taking a break in their small...

Great place in a good location. Our room was very spacious and we were looked after very well. The staff was friendly as well. The breakfast is pretty basic and unfortunately the internet in our room didn't work so that was annoying but overall the hotel met our expectations. Would definitely stay there again in the future.

We went to Lisbon, and did not want to stay in an international box run from a hotel group that will pride itself on the same standards and facilities anywhere in the world. This hotel ticked all our boxes, having delightful old world charm with quirky rooms, friendly staff, clean rooms, and an extensive breakfast along the same lines as...

Very cosy hotel. Nice old style. Staff is very kind and always ready to help. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast is simply amazing: wide choice with superb fruit. Comfortable and safe location. Bus and metro stations are very close. Bairro alto is7 mins walking.

Charming but no frills. We enjoyed our stay and the location and price couldn't have been better. Breakfast was decent, no dinner options within but with so many restaurants within walking distance, this was not an issue. I'd definitely stay again.

This place had such great reviews, I guess our expectations were a little higher. In an old mansion which had nice ambiance, the room's carpet was very dirty and the furniture hadn't seen any tlc for awhile. This was the most expensive place we had booked after being in Portugal for three weeks (another five to go) and we can't...

The hotel is an ancient house and it looked sort of creepy at first sight when we arrived (it was already dark), but our room was very comfortable, and quite large too. The bed wasn't long enough, though, and our feet barely fit. The mattress was also hard (which was excellent for my girlfriend, but I don't like it that...

Very charming boutique hotel in a fashionable old neighborhood of Lisbon. Stayed in one of the top floor suites - 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 tv's - brandly and tastefully renovated.Amazing value for money! Definitely one of the best choices in Lisbon and gladly recommended.

This hotel is ok for a 3 star, but nothing special. Our room was large and looked as if it had been decorated recently, but the bed was hard and uncomfortable, the cushions smelt of B.O. and the room was showing some signs of wear (broken handle on wardrobe, bathroom door burnt by heater above it). Toiletries were also a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Casa de Sao Mamede" is a small family hotel (26 rooms). Built in the XVIIIth century as the residence of a magistrate. This beautiful building has maintained all the charm of an old family home. It is one of the first buildings to be constructed in the traditional system of "birdcage" - earthquake proof construction used after earthquake of 1755. Having been adapted to a hotel unit in 1948 it knew how to keep throughout the years, the treatment, the tradition and the atmosphere of a true family house. Always trying to preserve the past we did not relinquish however the comfort requirements that contemporary life demands so all the rooms have: private bathroom, telephone, digital safe, satellite television, double glass and air-conditioned with individual command. The fact that we're dealing with a small hotel type unit allow us to grant a more personalized treatment to each customer. ... more   less
