The Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa is often celebrated for its clean environment and efficient housekeeping, with a luxurious lobby and rooftop bar that offers stunning views, according to many guests. While the amenities and prime location earn high marks from reviewers, some travelers report that noise from the rooftop bar can be a significant disturbance. Opinions on value and room quality are mixed, with issues such as outdated decor and inconsistent service tempering the otherwise comfortable and well-appointed accommodations. Despite the vibrant atmosphere and live music, guests are divided on the service quality, experiencing both friendly attentiveness and disorganization.

My wife and I have just finished a stay of 34 nights, in an Executive Suite, at the Tivoli Liberdade hotel, as the final stage of our move to Lisbon. This 5 star is located in a perfect spot, in the centre of Avenida Liberdade, Lisbon’s luxury street and a beautiful tree lined Boulevard more similar to Paris’s Champs Elysee than London’s Regents Street.

This was not our first stay and we were welcomed back as if we were family. We immediately noticed, after our flight from London, where at the time mask wearing was hit and miss, that everyone wore a mask in the hotel, there was hand sanitiser everywhere and everyone respected the new normal protections. Covid arrangements were tightened further during our stay when buffet breakfast changed to a seated breakfast with an à la carte menu and table service. These guys take it seriously and we felt safe at all times.

Five weeks is a long time to stay in any hotel, but we enjoyed every day at the Tivoli, we had many “breakfasts in bed” where the absence of any room delivery charge was appreciated. The hotel’s excellent restaurant, where we had enjoyed many meals before is currently closed for dinner, but we had great lunches there about twice a week during our stay.

The hotel also has a lovely pool area, a rarity in central Lisbon and we managed to find a few relaxing afternoons to catch the sun and have a snack by the pool.

Although the hotel has some great facilities like it’s spa, gym and roof top bar/restaurant (which was busy every night), we didn’t have time this trip to use all of them. However it’s greatest asset is undoubtedly its people. The Portugese are naturally kind, decent people so the hotel has a great pool to choose from, but they have still chosen very well.

We want to especially thank Nelson the front office manager and all the team on reception for arranging our stay and making it so enjoyable, they were always asking how we were and fixed the slightest problem, of which there were very few, immediately. Thanks again Nelson, you made our stay perfect!

Our thanks also to Hugo and all the excellent managers and team in the restaurants, lobby bar and room service. Our thanks too to those who welcome every visitor on the front steps come rain or shine, in top hat and tails. They too are always smiling and very helpful.

We were really sad to leave the hotel and hope that we will stay again soon.

Thank you again to everyone at the Tivoli for a great stay.

Lovely hotel with great staff, bed comfortable, we stayed for my partners 40th birthday and received a surprise bottle of sparkling wine and a cake which was lovely. The concierge service is excellent. I only really have a couple of down points. After ordering a drink in the lobby bar I was told to sit down and it would be served to me. 15 minutes later no sign of the drink and I noticed a table of 4 sat near me who arrived after me were being served their drinks. So I gave up and went up to the roof terrace bar (part of Seen, not the Skybar). The cocktails there probably aren't what they should be for a 5 star hotel or for the price but I enjoyed my seat in the sun and the service was much better.
The biggest issue I have is that breakfast was included with our room rate. It states on the room card if you want breakfast in your room it is 8 euro 50 service charge. Fine, (although our next 5 star hotel in porto served breakfast in the room at no extra cost), but anyway happy to pay a service charge. We ordered from the a la carte section and had a lovely and filling breakfast. Only to find out on checkout we had been charged for the whole thing not just the room service. So it ended up costing 70 euros for eggs benedict, granola and some smoked salmon!!!!! I got such a shock!!!!
The other thing I think they were a bit sneaky with (as well as breakfast) is there is no information about the minibar in the room, no price list, no menu no nothing (including on the information screen on the TV, so I gleefully hoped it was included (I have been to other hotels where it is) and again ended up being charged for every single thing, which is OK and understandable but I think its a bit sneaky not telling you beforehand that it costs and exactly how much.
Apart from this it is a fabulous hotel in a fabulous location, however on arriving at our second hotel in Porto it did make me realise what 5 star is SUPPOSED to be like (incidentally the hotel in porto also charged for the minibar and the prices were quite clear on the TV information screen)

In the past ten years my wife and I have stayed in Lisbon four times, each time at a different hotel. Tivoli is without a doubt upscale but I found the Intercontinental rooms equal to Tivoli and it’s location across from the park offers pleasant views. Tivoli has an outstanding breakfast and is priced accordingly. The room was smaller than at two other hotels, with some evident minor wear and tear on the furnishings. Given the cost I know we’ll stay at another hotel we enjoy on our next visit. Each to his own.

I stayed at the Tivoli for almost a week on business in Lisbon.

The hotel has a terrific location next to most of the international designer brands as well as some of the best restaurants in Lisbon.

If you have meetings in Lisbon, most of the international firms are located within a short car ride or even walking if weather permits.

The lobby is bright and airy, with high ceilings.

The bed was comfortable to sleep in.

Check-in was very easy and I was upgraded from a Junior suite to an executive suite upon arrival.

Check in staff are very friendly and kind as were the executive lounge personnel.

Now the bad-

Throughout the entire first morning I was awoken by the fire alarm from the room next door and after repeatedly calling, eventually after 2 hours they shut of the sound.

The executive suite is dark as the windows are quite small and don’t let much light in.

The room is not decorated to any design standard. Walls are painted white with no artwork other than a very cheap looking frameless poster.

Furnishings look basic and carpeting makes the rooms look even older. The lighting fixtures are falling off the ceiling. Not something you expect in an executive suite.

Check out was impossible and after waiting 30 minutes to check out I had to leave to catch my flight.

I had agree with some of these comments and these reviews. They should designate an elevator for hotel guests only in the evening, so you don’t have to wait in long lines just to get to your room. The room designs are awkward. Our bathroom door didn’t close and the concrete shower floor is not a good idea since they do not dry out completely, and eventually will mildew. I was pretty appalled at the sight of the carpet and furniture, both were very badly stained, something you would not expect from a five-star hotel. The bed is squeaky and lumpy and the furniture in general need to be updated. Breakfast bar is limited but the service in general at this hotel is nice. We stayed here because of its history and wanted to support a Portuguese hotel but I feel like that may have been a mistake. I was also shocked at the quality of the towels which were flimsy, scratchy, and old. The only thing five star about this hotel are the prices. I don’t understand why they have an executive lounge when they can’t even offer us a decent cup of coffee. Instead they have a cheap, self serve coffee machine and a couple of pastries. Probably the worst executive lounge I have ever seen, I don’t know why they bother I think this hotel is more concerned about their restaurant on the top floor and the pool parties they have which are the only things that we were told about when we checked in. The pool is small and full of people standing, smoking and drinking while in the pool. Location is excellent. Would love to see this hotel go through an upgrade and live up to its full potential because right now it is not. Room service food was delicious. Menu had a few vegetarian and vegan options. Not many. I can see why some people would think that this is a Fantastic Hotel, it’s pretty cool in the lobby is beautiful. However, for those of us who stay in many five star hotels, this falls short. Any time you don’t feel comfortable sitting or walking in your own hotel room because of old stains, it’s not a five star hotel.
No need to blame housekeeping staff, I’m pretty sure it’s management not wanting to spend money to give this place a proper upgrade. I can’t stay here again.

Stayed here for 5 nights with my partner. As a GHA black member I was upgraded to an executive suite at check in. The suited consisted of a sitting room and separate bed room, dressing room and bathroom Suite was spacious and well appointed but a little barren, with virtually no art work on the walls. (see picture)

Staff throughout the hotel were unfailingly helpful and food throughout the hotel was good. We particularly loved having cocktails on the rooftop bar, which must be one of the best spots in Lisbon. Also nice to have access to the hotel's outdoor pool after walking around the city for most of the day.

Would stay here again

The property itself is nice, but not up to par for a five star hotel and definitely not deserving of being within the Leading Hotels Of The World group. here’s why:

- the pool they boast on the website is SHARED with another hotel around the corner, so it’s not private, it has loud music playing, and people are smoking. service is also limited by the pool… i asked for fresh fruit, they offered me a juice????

- the rooms are nothing special at all. we sprung to have an executive suite, thinking it was this beautifully grand room with a view and added amenities. it was not. the hotel website lists the following extra amenities for executive suite rooms: free daily newspaper (never received it for a 4 night stay), free airport pick up (we had to fight with them to set it up, and then they charged us), a floor manager (unclear what that is or what they do, but there wasn’t one anyway), a bathrobe and slippers (every room has this), access to the executive lounge (it’s literally just an office with a TV and some free coffee), and a $100 credit to use towards the spa or restaurant (we used it for dinner, and were then charged for the dinner that was supposed to be comped. still disputing it a month later)

- as mentioned, we had issues with our bill every step of the way. when we checked in, we were asked to pay more money on top of what we already paid to actually have the executive suite (even though we had confirmation of the room upon booking). then we had issues getting it resolved, passed around to multiple managers and staff at the front desk. then when we checked, the bill had al kinds of extra charges that no one could explain. then we were charged for the airport pick up (even though it was included with our room). then we were charged for what was supposed to be a comped meal. a month later, we still have no resolution on the extra charges.

the only redeeming qualities about the hotel were its prime location, incredible buffet breakfast and A++++ concierge (Walter was FABULOUS).

Spacious hotel with grand lobby and lounge area. Rooms are large and comfortable It’s the old fashioned touches, like the turn down service, water is refreshed, delicious chocolate. Nice to have 2 comfortable chairs in the room to be able to sit. Excellent buffet breakfast, good selection of fruits, cereals, pastries and egg station. Located in upmarket shopping district, easy stroll down to the historic centre, although I prefer being located a bit closer to this area

Overall we had a very comfortable stay but the hotel clearly haven’t taken on board some of the recurring comments which could easily be addressed.

The check in process is unnecessarily lengthy with each passport number having to be keyed in manually. Scanners used by other hotels reduces this time. There seems to be a lot of information that needs keying which is probably why queues are long and there are not enough staff on duty.

Our luggage took at least 1/2 hour to get to the room and two visits to Reception required us to queue again to complain!

We had a Junior Suite, very roomy but devoid of character and the bathroom layout, as noted by another traveller, was not logical.

Lift queue, again as commented on by others, was bad at times. The trick is to use lifts on other side by the bar which gets round it but the hotel don’t tell you that.

Queued for over 15 minutes at Skybar only to be ignored by Barman so gave up. Really for the young, amazing views and worth going up just to take a picture.

Downstairs restaurant has a great atmosphere and good food. As with the rest of the hotel, generally high quality staff just not enough of them.

Lastly, two superb Concierges who made our trip providing great advice which included going on Tuk Tuk tour on first day and private driver to take us to Sintra, lunch and on to Cascais with a lot of luggage. Expensive but worth every penny!

We just got back from four nights at the Tivoli in Lisboa. We were impressed with the hotel from the minute of check in. Nelson (the front desk manager) greeted us and continued to care for us during the duration of our stay. He made us feel so welcome and truly handled all of our needs so graciously and with the utmost attention. He was happy to also accommodate our two children (ages 13 and 11) and their needs. He was there to greet us every morning and help us in anyway he could. The hotel itself was immaculate and well located and the rooms very spacious. We ate at their rooftop restaurant "Seen" twice and had such lovely experiences with both the food and staff and amazing views ! Carolina the other manager was also very lovely and accommodating. When we had an issue with the air conditioning they bent over backwards to change our rooms and make sure we were very comfortable. As a family who travels a decent amount, we put this as one of our favorite hotel experiences and will definitely return.

We saw fado in a theatre setting in a town called Chiado - probably a mile from hotel. Google ‘Fado in Chiado’. Plenty of restaurants near pre or post. No food or drink was served at show. It lasted 50 min.
