Hotel do Chiado is located in Chiado / Baixa, Lisbon's historic district, near Bairro Alto, Rossio Square and Avenida da Liberdade. Hotel do Chiado was built in the historic building of Armazéns do Chiado, nowadays a shopping center, which was completely restored by the famous architect Siza Vieira after the tragic fire of 1988. Located in Chiado, the trendiest, elegant and chic meeting point of Lisbon, this is the only hotel in town that offers rooms with private terraces and panoramic views of the Castle and the TagusRiver. The subway station Baixa-Chiado is located beneath the building and you can easily find taxi service side by side with the hotel.

A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!

Perfectly situated on the top floors of a building right above the central Baixa-Chiado tube station, it’s easy to get to and from the airport. Once you are there, you are within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants, castle, cathedral and the main Avenida Liberdade. Friendly, attentive staff and excellent breakfasts and roof top bar. Stayed in a spacious room with a terrace. Superb views looking out across the city and the river. Will be back!

We had a beautiful premium room with a lovely terrace and great view of the city. Rooftop bar had the same great view. Comfortable beds and was able to accommodate the three of us, husband and wife traveling with adult daughter. Excellent breakfast in a light-filled dining area overlooking the city. On a special note, we had what we thought was an emergency situation (all turned out fine), and Paul at the reception desk was superb in helping us in the middle of the night, very kind and efficient. We want to give him and the hotel special thanks for that.

The hotel facilities were great – pretty much as described on the hotel website – modern and well maintained. The staff were wonderful – attentive and knowledgeable about the hotel and Lisbon in general. They provided us some great advice on where to go (and not to go). I felt the best part of Hotel do Chiado was the location. So, in the spirit of helping future visitors, here is some more info: - Head up to the rooftop bar to get acclimated. It’s a great way to see where the hotel is situated within the key Lisbon sites… and have a beer! - Largo do Carmo - 5 minute walk up the hill. Small park surrounded by some very nice restaurants and the Lisbon Antiquities Museum (in the convent ruins). - Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara – 10 minute walk (via the Largo do Carmo). Small park with wonderful views of Lisbon. - Praça do Comércio and Arco da Rua Augusta – 10 minute walk down the hill and along a pretty promenade to a river side plaza and arch surrounded by some nice cafes (good for beers, coffee, ice cream). Also, this is where the various trolleys and buses leave from. Take one of the “red” trolleys for a nice historic introduction to Lisbon. - Castelo de S. Jorge – about 30 minute uphill walk through the very pretty streets of Alfama. The Castle of St George has some great views of the city and provides a good historical perspective of Lisbon over the centuries. - Elevador de Santa Justa (Eiffel Tower inspired elevator) is less than 3 minutes from the hotel. We never actually went up it, finding the views from the hotel’s rooftop bar sufficient.

We were not hotel guests but went to the roof top for wine. At first we were told that outdoor tables were reserved for hotel guests only but after a few minutes, the hostess sat us outside. The view of Alfama is amazing. We enjoyed our glasses of wine before we went out for dinner and would recommend going here earlier than sunset, when the rooftop becomes very crowded.
