With its small garden and the top floor library overlooking the river, this 18th-century mansion transmits a romantic and welcoming feeling. The neighborhood of Lapa retains much of its traditional character and is not so crowded and touristic as other adjacent quarters like Bairro Alto and Chiado.

A wonderful hotel in a beautiful historic building. We had a great stay. Our room was so comfortable, overlooking the walled garden, with bathrobes and slippers provided, as well as a decanter of port! The staff, especially reception, are so helpful, full of suggestions, and nothing is too much trouble. In a quiet neighbourhood, near to public transport, and the National Museum of Ancient Art. The Library and it's balcony are inviting, and a welcoming place to relax. Breakfast is delicious and so varied. Tea and coffee available all day, as well as an 'Honesty Bar'. We would definitely recommend

The Janelas Verdes is situated close to the centre of Lisbon but in a quiet location that is away from the hoards of tourists that infest the city. There are local restaurants stuffed with locals not tourists, and transport links are good.

The hotel retains many period features and has a lot of character. There are certain idiosyncrasies that come with such a place such as the odd stiff door handle and air conditioning a touch noisy, but these do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive experience. There are some great touches, port in the room which is refilled, tea/coffee, cakes and pastel da natas available throughout the day. Also there is a the wonderful ‘honesty’ bar at the top of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent as well. The clientele seemed to be middle aged/elderly couples, there was a noticeable absence of children which we really appreciated.

Last but by no means least I must mention the excellent service. The reception staff were super helpful and could not do enough for us. The hotel staff were attentive and respectful without being obsequious.

We would not stay anywhere else if visiting Lisbon again.

Dear John, Thank you for sharing your feedback and for staying with us. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed immersing yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of As Janelas Verdes Inn. It brings us immense joy to know that you appreciated the thoughtful touches that we kindly offer our Guests, such as the complimentary Port wine in your room, the cozy coffee and tea stations placed throughout our 18th century townhouse, and the honesty bar at the library, where you can relax while enjoying the stunning views from our terrace. We would like to extend a special thanks for the kind praise of our staff, who are proudly our greatest asset. As you mentioned, As Janelas Verdes is nestled in the charming Lapa neighbourhood, known for its rich history and a predominantly local population. It provides a quieter atmosphere in contrast to the bustling and touristy historic districts such as the nearby Bairro Alto and Chiado. This charming Inn that retains its traditional architecture by reflecting the Portuguese culture in an intimate and friendly atmosphere. Our goal is to preserve the unique character of our place, enhancing the homely ambiance. Thank you for choosing our hotel to spend your time in Lisbon. We hope to welcome you back again and provide you a most pleasant stay. Kind regards, Diogo Laranjo General Manager

The As Janelas Verdes is a fantastic place and we felt very comfortable here. The furnishings are kept in the old historical style and in particular the common rooms such as the library and the breakfast room seem almost like a historical museum. In addition, there is an extremely friendly and helpful staff. Here you feel welcome as a guest! The small garden or roof terrace overlooking the harbour invite you to linger. The two bars (on the ground floor and in the library) operate on a trust basis. You can help yourself here against proof and pay on departure. The rooms are neat, though not very large. But as a tourist, you are mostly here to sleep. Lisbon's attractions are not right outside the door, but are within easy walking distance. Very close to the hotel there is a stop of the hop-on/off bus for tourists and practically right outside the door there is also a regular bus. The breakfast is good, makes especially by the ambience still significant pluses. In fine weather, breakfast is served outside in the romantic garden, otherwise in the historically furnished breakfast room mentioned above. The hotel also offers parking in its own small underground car park for a fair price. Reserve beforehand! Overall, a clear Recommendation and 5 out of 5 there from the bottom of my heart! We really liked it.

This is a fabulous little gem of a hotel, close to some great restaurants and transport links even though most places are walkable, there are lots of buses, trams and trains to get you around Lisbon.
The staff are accommodating and informative, nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are wonderful, the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are big enough with plenty of rituals toiletries and big fluffy robes.
This really does feel like you are staying with your friends or family.
Breakfast consists of hot and cold dishes along with fruit juice, pastries, plenty of coffee and bubbles so you can start your day with a smile.
The library with the honesty bar is a beautiful sanctuary where you can watch the sunset over the river, chill with a hot drink or your favourite tipple or maybe just grab a coffee in the morning sun on the balcony before going to breakfast.
There are pastries with tea and coffee available in the lounge area in the afternoon for guests if you don’t want to go the library.
The staff are so unobtrusive they clean without disturbing you, the kitchenette in the library was always spotless even though many people would use it but you never seem to see them.
I would definitely go back to this hotel, it’s everything you could want for a city break.

This historical hotel is within walking distance to the city centre, transportation and the cruise port is nearby. The rooms have luxurious bedding and towels, universal charger, toiletries, blow dryer and a carafe of port. The continental breakfast has a variety of hot and cold foods and fresh squeezed juices. The staff are extraordinaire. The garden for breakfast is quaint and the third floor library offers sodas and liquor on a honour system to be paid when checking out. There are fantastic dining options within a few minutes walk.

This is the second time I have stayed at Janelas Verdes and the experience is always a pleasure! From reception to maintenance staff, everyone is extremely attentive and friendly! I love the attention to the smallest details such as the super fluffy towels in the bathroom, the liquor available in the room and even the basket with a timer so the lid doesn't bang! Incredible! Not to mention the beautiful library with views of the Tagus with candle lighting on the fireplace! And the breakfast is always plentiful, everything fresh and delicious! And when we arrived at the end of the day tired from the tour, afternoon coffee was also available!!!! There is no better hotel in Lisbon!

AS Janelas Verdes Inn
We booked 3 nights at the Inn. It was one of a few inns recommended due to location near to a relatives apt. After checking out the JV inn’s reviews, we booked for our time in Lisbon. The inn exceeded expectations and prior reviews. A few highlights: helpful staff, an abundance of cleaning help and breakfast severs, many choices for breakfast, 24 hour tea and coffee service, including Nespresso espresso options, complimentary port wine in each room, a favorite Molton Brown bathroom cleansing items, entire hotel extremely clean and tidy, great location in a neighborhood with embassies (Luxembourg embassy next door) and nearby tasty bakeries, cafes and restaurants. This inn is worth a visit, we will certainly return.

I can only recommend the hotel with reservations: It takes 20 minutes to get to the hotel from the Cais do Sodré metro station. The room (with a view over a row of houses to the Tejo) smelled unpleasant, the carpet was showing its age (not suitable for walking barefoot), the breakfast was decent but not outstanding (purely a buffet). When checking in, you have to give a credit card or a 50 euro deposit (although there is no minibar in the room, only in the kitchen on the floor). Nice seating, especially in the "library".

We had the most wonderful stay here for our honeymoon in June and I can't recommend As Janelas Verdes highly enough! We've travelled extensively and are a very discerning couple, but this hotel is one of the very best we've stayed in. A real gem. Quiet location, perhaps 2km from the city centre, there are quite a number of very pleasant bars and restaurants nearby. There is a bus service right outside the hotel or you can even catch the train from the nearby Santos station. The staff are fantastic and the reception staff very friendly and helpful. All speak excellent English. The hotel has the ambience of an opulent old-fashioned family home and our room was first-class. Breakfast was served in the courtyard, which was a great start to the day. But the highlight for us was the third floor library and roof terrace where we relaxed with a quiet drink from the honesty bar before going out for the evening. Lisbon is an absolute delight, but very hilly, so remember to pack a decent pair of trainers. Very much a foodie destination, we ate in the Club de Journalistas, a 10/15 minute walk from the hotel. It was simply divine, but popular so you'll have to book in advance. And no trip to Lisbon would be complete without a pilgrimage to the Estadio Nacional, home to Celtic's 1967 European Cup triumph over Inter Milan. Hail Hail Lisbon!

What a find! Beautiful property with loads of charm! Excellent amenities that - complimentary in-room port wine, a lovely library and roof top area with an honor bar system, everything felt like you were in a private home! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a nice variety each morning and they even had gluten-free options on request. I was glad we stayed in this neighborhood, away from the busy, noisy central areas. Very easy walk to great restaurants and main attractions were a quick and very affordable Uber ride away. I won't hesitate to recommend this property to friends! Wish we had more than our two nights there!

Dear Guest, Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful stay at our historic inn and that you felt like in a private home. We are also very proud to read that you appreciated our friendly and helpful staff, which is our most important asset. As for our location, As Janelas Verdes is nestled in the charming Lapa neighborhood, known for its rich history and a predominantly local population. It offers a quieter atmosphere compared to the more bustling and touristy historic districts. As you mention, it's still conveniently located for a leisurely stroll to explore the local culture. It is a flat area along the river Tagus and you may use the old Bica funicular, near Time Out Market, to reach Chiado and Bairro Alto, through one of the most picturesque streets of Lisbon which is Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo. We look forward to welcoming you again to our lovely city. Kind regards, Diogo Laranjo General Manager

I would definitely recommend the Clube de Jornalistas - which was about a 10 minute walk from the As Janelas Verdes - up a hill!! Its a little difficult to find as not well signed and below street level, but well worth it and where the locals go.

There is a very small garage underneath the hotel. Make sure your car is also very small - and that you are very careful entering and leaving the garage! I badly scraped the fender of the rental car exiting and had to pay big bucks to the rental car company...:(. Be sure to call ahead of time to see if there is space available. It is a small property... I liked the hotel very much, by the way, even if the garage is small

Hi They arranged a taxi that cost 90 euros return. There were 4 of us so we split it. Depending on what luggage you have there are buses that take you to the main train terminus, and it's then about a twenty minute walk, not recommended if you've got cases. There is a little bit uphill.
