The old world ambience at the Hotel Avenida Palace, along with their hospitality and dedication to care of their guests make this hotel the only one I would consider. Excellent location, a most outstanding breakfast buffet in an elegant dining room, evening turn down service, and delightful daily gifts in the room. We often fly TAP just so we can have a convenient stopover at Hotel Avenida Palace.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Avenida Palace and we'll definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Lisbon -- and will recommend it to anyone we know. Though the hotel is older, it's been well maintained and has almost more of a vintage look that you only seem to see in actual palaces these days. The location is right next to the Rossio train station, next to a Metro stop and central to most major tourist sites in Lisbon (we found it to be an ideal "hub" to most things we wanted to visited). And best of all, it's in the flat part of the downtown area.
Even though our room faced the street, I could barely hear any noise and I'm a very light sleeper. The rooms were a good size (esp. for a European hotel), really clean, it was one of the better mattresses we had on our trip, the pillows are in good shape and they actually used real-sized bath towels. The breakfast buffet comes with your room rate and it has a wide enough assortment that there should be something for everyone.
But what really stood out was the overall service in that we received a welcome and departing gift and a shopping bag as we rarely receive any sort of gestures from hotels these days. We wound up going to the bar every day (sometimes twice a day) to relax or get a bite and the people there were so nice and friendly.

Words can't explain this amazing hotel. It is in a great location. The staff are friendly, attentive and welcoming. On check in we were personally shown to the room. This really is a palace, every aspect of the hotel feels you've stepped back in time into the 1890's, with true elegance.
The rooms are lovely and extremely clean. I just have to say, the cleanliness of the hotel is..wow...amazing! We had a view of the main street and we could open the windows for fresh air. The beds are comfortable and sheets are so soft. The Molton Brown products in the bathroom are very luxurious. There was even a mobile phone in the room that you could use to call reception, look up hotel information, you could even take it out to use maps and the hotel also mentioned you could make limited international calls from the mobile. The room is turned down every day, chocolates were left every turn down, one day we had fresh pastel de nata in our room, strawberries another day and another day we had a complimentary voucher for gingha at the bar down stairs. A big bottle of water is replenished daily.
Breakfast is included, there are many options and it is very delicious. I felt like we were dining in a royal ball room. Staff were very attentive.
We ate at the bar area, and the food was delicious. Again staff are friendly and attentive, felt like a royal experience. There is someone playing the piano from 7pm-8pm most nights in the sitting area, where you can have a drink and a snack/meal. Lovely ambience.
Whilst we were staying in the hotel, Lisbon experienced a 5.4 magnitude earthquake. We definitely felt it, and having not experienced an earthquake where we are from we were a bit frightened. When we went down stairs to see the staff, they were very calming and reassuring. I felt very safe in this hotel.
On check out we ordered a Bolt to the station. The Bell man, took our suitcases straight out to the street and waited with us until the car arrived, he even put the suitcases in the car for us and confirmed with the driver where to take us. Now that is 5 star service.
I wish every hotel had the attention to details, staff attentiveness and friendliness like this palace. It was truly a memorable experience and if you ever get the chance to stay at this hotel, I highly recommend it. If we could give this hotel higher than 5 stars we would, it was absolutely exceptional.

We chose Hotel Avenida Palace because we are very fond of historic hotels. Avenida Palace has a very long and glorious history and past. The service from all the staff at this hotel was simply outstanding from the first minute to the last, always friendly, always courteous and efficient. We had a room directly above the driveway and de facto no view, which we didn't find so nice. My wife and I were in Lisbon for work and stayed 4 nights. The room was equipped with a coffee maker, there was bottled water and actually everything you can expect in a 5 star hotel. However, the furnishing of the rooms and the hotel as a whole is very old and showing its age, investments should be made here. The breakfast room is spectacular with a fantastic view of a beautiful square. The times for breakfast were also wonderfully long, until 11:30 am. The breakfast itself left a lot to be desired, the selection was very manageable and there were no cards for fresh egg dishes etc. The breakfast selection only received 3 stars from us. We had three guests for breakfast, 30 euros for this breakfast is just too expensive. The reception doesn't look representative of a 5-star hotel at all, the wooden table is worn, old and actually a bit shabby. Unfortunately, unfortunately, the hotel has probably been remodeled more often, the entire outdoor area on the ground floor has been rented out to businesses that have nothing to do with the hotel itself. For this reason, the main entrance, which was once certainly sophisticated and worthy of a 5-star hotel, was moved behind the hotel. In the past, the beautiful entrance hall was certainly filled with life and light, since all guests had to go through this hall to their rooms and must have enjoyed staying there, today nothing is left of it. Unfortunately, with the entire outdoor area rented out to said shops, this beautiful hall is now just a big black hole that you don't want to be in, at least we haven't even been in 5 days. The same applies to the also beautiful historic bar, which I was actually looking forward to. Today orphaned and lifeless. The hotel tries hard with nightly piano performances of all styles, but that doesn't help. It also really bothered us that there was no restaurant in the entire hotel, which one simply has to expect in a 5-star hotel. All in all, the disappointment prevails, despite the outstanding service and the commitment of all employees. One can only warmly recommend the owners to restore the former conditio

Dear Guest, I am very disappointed to learn that your stay at the Avenida Palace did not meet your expectations. As the Avenida Palace is a Hotel where the comfort of its guests really matters, I was naturally concerned to see that your experience with us did not live up to what you expected, which I truly regret. You can be sure that your comments are very important as they allow us to improve our services. I would like to inform you that the main entrance was moved around the year 1910 and that stores you refer to were a part of this building even before that time, although their rental is not the responsibility of the hotel management. On the other hand, and as we strive hard to provide great Guest service, I am glad that you were pleased with the service provided by our staff. I will surely share your kind feedback with all. Sincerely Yours, Pedro Miguel Costa

A gem of a hotel 🏨 n a perfect location I have been to Lisbon several times and have stayed in the “Signature” 5 star hotels that charge a multiple of what this hotel charges and I can honestly say that this place was hands down the best hotel I have ever stayed in Lisbon. Perfect location, caring staff, personal service and classic old world European charm. The hotel is owned by a caring family who takes the hospitality business seriously. Our room was great, housekeeping was outstanding, and the bar downstairs was a perfect place to unwind at the end of the day, while listening to jazz or fado while sipping perfectly made drinks. This is an old-school hotel, that is almost constantly booked and rooms are hard to come by for a very good reason. As a matter fact, I tried to book the hotel for friends visiting Lisbon in mid October, and they were completely sold out. No doubt I will be returning sooner than later as my experience was exceptional. Thank you for a job well done and hope to return very soon.

Our family travelled to Portugal over Xmas and based on other Trip advisor reviews we selected the Avenida palace hotel. We could not have been happier. Starting well before our trip the reservation staff was very helpful in helping us select our rooms for my wife and I and our 2 adult children each with their own rooms. After a little back and forth we got them to guarantee a king size bed for our suite ( shoud not have been that hard). we did book the suite for the previous day as we arrived on the red eye and needed to get a few hours of sleep after not sleeping on the flight over.
The concierges were also very helpful in helping us arrange tours and suggesting sightseeing locations. Lisbon has a lot of good restaurants walkable from the hotel. The hotel also has an app for your phone which is very helpful with contacting the hotel of recommending attractions. They also provide a local phone so you can use google maps and make local calls without havivng to incur US data charges.
The hotel is a beautiful buidling, very well appointed and well decorated rooms and lounge areas. Breakfasts were very good all served in a very nice dining area overlooking the main boulevard. The location is ideal situated at the end of the Avenida Liberdade a high end shopping street but also located next to a lot of the sites you would want to walk to and or start your tours from. Highly recommend the Hop On Hop Off Bus to get an overlay of the city as well as the Electrico Tram #28 whcich winds its way up around the narrow street in the hills of Lisbon. All the conveniences of a major city are closeby the hotel ATMs, Strabucks, dining etc..
The bed waas very comfortable, something that is still inconsistent across Europe.
The only minor issues were the slight vibrations from the underground metro and the bathrooms were somewht smaller than we are used to and only one sink. But they did have a waterfall showerhead with good pressure. There is a glass barrier over the tub to avoid flooding the floor versus a shower curtain and it mostly works.
The bar areas is very classy and leads out to a very nice lounge area with a piano to listen to the occasional performances scheduled at the hotel.
I researched a lot of hotels and had numerous suggestions from travel agencies but ultimately was very pleased with the Avenida Palace hotel and would definitely stay there again.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough. The location is so convenient, the service is fantastic (I swear they made my bed 4x a day), and the hotel is simply breathtaking; I felt like a princess every day waking up in the palace. The most surprising perk was the breakfast: it was so delicious, replete with homemade sweet and savory food, unlimited coffee/ tea/ juice, and beautiful chandeliers overhead. Who would’ve thought the best meal I’d have in Lisbon would be at my hotel?! I can’t say enough good things, and I recommend booking directly on their website for a cheaper rate and maybe some surprise upgrades (I got my room upgraded for free because of it.)

We stayed for three nights pre-cruise. The hotel has preserved the old-world elements in the lobby and in the rooms. The atrium is lovely. It is a great place for evening cocktails while you listen to the nightly piano music featuring local talent. Note is only about 30 minutes, not all evening. We stayed in the Presidential Suite and at least in our room an effort has been made to provide extra connectivity for USB charging, etc. Beyond that much has remained more authentic to the time the hotel was constructed.
The breakfast buffet is one of the best hotel buffets we have ever experienced. The selection is extensive.
The last night we were there was a heavy rain. We cancelled our restaurant reservation and ate in the bar area. This is not your typical bar food. We each had a steak sandwich which was excellent, shared a bottle of local wine and each had dessert and after dinner drinks. Service was attentive and friendly. Booking directly with the hotel got us a 20% discount at the bar making the meal a great value.
The entire staff from reception, to concierge, to doormen are extremely friendly and accommodating.
This hotel is for you if you want old world charm. It is not for you if you want a new, shiny, sleek, high-tech property.

Beautiful old hotel, my friend and I stayed for two nights to explore historic Lisbon following a villa holiday. I have recently tended to opt for the very modern clean line hotels since the real classic hotels are usually terribly expensive and sometimes a little worn out. This hotel had all the classic charm supplemented with all the modern touches the traveller of today requires including lots of chargers and a fully charged no cost I phone in your room to take out and about with you if required. The staff were so attentive, from the front door to check in all very special, professional with old style grace, in the bar at the piano lounge, plus the cocktails were delicious 😁 and the breakfast experience was 2nd to none and I have been lucky to travel to and stay in some of the best hotels in the world. The hotels domestic staff must work extremely hard, the hotel is gleaming you would find it difficult to find a speck of dust anywhere, even with all the glorious chandeliers and art. The concierge was also very helpful organising a tour for us which allowed us to see and experience the city at our leisure and with little walking as I have mobility issues at present. Thank you Avenida Palace you made two old friends trip to Lisbon very special we will be back and will definitely bring family and friends with us! Di & Margaret 6th floor.

Wonderful old world charm in this hotel which has an amazing location. Very convenient to walk everywhere or get an uber. Lisbon is the city of 7 hills but we wandered up and down from this hotel easily. As the train station is next door, it was also so easy to go to Sintra by train.
The hotel is one of the oldest in Lisbon and has many antiques. We stayed here for a week in suite 406 (they upgraded us) as we wanted to see Lisbon leisurely. We came back for a few nights and stayed in 419, a junior suite (they upgraded us again), before heading to the Alentejo region. The staff is very attentive (although their recommendations on restaurants left a lot to be desired and depended on who was there). We are foodies so also had done our research and did eat very well.
There is turn down service in the late afternoon/early evening and they refresh the towels. They also provided snacks /treats every day. All the amenities are provided of a top hotel.
The breakfast was sumptuous and we enjoyed it (especially my husband who is a big eater in the morning; me not so much). Besides the variety on display, you can order omelets or other eggs.
They have a bar, where they make specialty drinks. I wanted to try the ginghjo, a local cherry specialty which is very very sweet. They made one called the gingho Avenida, with sparkling water, lemon and something else (they wanted to add white egg froth, but I would not let them). It was lovely.
Very very quiet so the only thing I would suggest is music nightly later on (besides 7 pm piano).
A really nice hotel with wonderful staff.
