In what used to be a big family's home in the best neighbourhood in Lisbon, The HOUSE is a "boutique B&B" that offers its guests a sophisticated but relaxed ambiance inside, and a terrace with a breathtakingly beautiful view over Lisboa. Come, you will feel at home in The HOUSE.
21 girls spent 4 nights here for a Hen Do, the facilities were perfect and Francisco and his staff went the extra mile to make our stay extra special (our suitcase went 'missing' from London to Lisbon and Francisco managed to locate the suitcase and bring it back to the apartment on the second evening!) We couldn't fault our stay, breakfast was superb and the terrace.. incredible!!

We had an excellent stay in The House. We enjoyed the fact that it was relatively central, yet not in the heart of the touristic area. (We were overwhelmed by the number of tourists in Lisbon though it was the end of September). We spent our last night in Portugal enjoying the view from the terrace with a glass of wine. This made a perfect conclusion to our trip to Portugal.

Dear Catherinemtl, Thank you very much for your review! I too find that our terrace (and our whole district, while we are at it) is the perfect antidote for the excessive number of tourists in the more touristy districts these days! Have a great 2019, Francisco

We had a wonderful 6 night, family and friends stay at The House in late December, 2018. There was 11 of us and we had plenty room. The place was wonderful. The neighborhood was great, with a small grocery store at the end of the block. The owner very helpful and the breakfast was good. The individual heating units in the rooms worked well. The place was kept very clean. Uber was abundant and easy to get in the area. It was nice having cleaning service everyday, but the best part was the roof top terrace and view. Fantastic! The only two improvements would be to have the washing machine for renters to use. They would do laundry for you, but the price was high I thought, 11 euro a load. Also, although the breakfast was good, it would have been nice for us, staying six days, to…

We spent 4 nights in this great value B & B. The host and his staff were ultra helpful with extensive local knowledge. The breakfast was superb with freshly squeezed orange juice and delicious choices. The roof terrace gives some of the best views in Lisbon. If we return to the city we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

We have just returned from Lisbon with my wife and are already recovering the incredible view from TheHouse. We have spent two entire evenings and mornings watching the sinrise and sunset on the rooftop. Sure, the building itself does not look nice when you enter, but once you're upstairs it will pay off. Even the view out of the balcony was amazing! The breakfast isn't big but quite interesting, containing fresh fruit salads, varios meat slizes, fresh yogurts and so on. You can clearly see that the owner takes care about the place him self. That's the big difference between boring 4 and 5 star Hotels.

Stayed a couple of nights in the house whilst exploring Lisbon. Francesco was incredibly welcoming and helpful and the place was well kept, quirky and stylish. Was easy enough to get around and was well equipped in there. Breakfast was plentiful and pretty good. Room had no door to bathroom! so had to escape to the lovely roof terrace whilst the other half was on the loo! Roof terrace doesn’t need an excuse for a visit though, the view up there was stunning, there with the honesty bar was a beautiful spot to spend an hour.

As frequent visitors to Portugal, my wife and I always try to stay at the House when in Lisbon. For the independent traveler, its location in the Estrela neighborhood, is ideal for exploring the wonders of this fascinating city. Transportation links are varied and easily accessible. As other reviewers have noted, the rooms are spacious, the breakfast options are numerous, and of course, the view from the terrace is spectacular. Francisco and his team are enthusiastic about ensuring their guests make the most of their Lisbon visit. They always have excellent suggestions for sightseeing and dining. We would frequently encounter Francisco in the lounge with a large map of Lisbon in front of him helping guests plot their itinerary for the day! The House is a charming spot. No doubt…

I have to grant it that the bedroom was well appointed and roomy, and the view from the terrace was fine. The breakfast was good. However, it is not an easily accessible place - and my room was not en suite! I was not warned of this beforehand. I would not have booked this had I known. So beware!

Dear BurmaB, Thank you for your review. Like always, we are sorry to hear that something was not right with someone's stay. Expectations and perception are key to everything in life, certainly hotel stays are no exception. Our website is as clear as possible on this issue of the bathrooms. We have 2 rooms, the Master and the Boy's, that have their private bathroom outside the room. This is only due to it being an old house and, by contract with my family, I can not change it. However, if you booked through Expedia, the information isn't as clear. Unfortunately there is not much we can do as they have their templates and that's it. We don't even sell these rooms on Booking.com because of this, despite it loosing us reservations. In any case, and because this matter was brought up by a client directly with us last month, we have now started to write to all future clients at the time of their booking to make sure everyone is on the same page. I hope this is enough for you to change the perception you had of what happened. We are not perfect but we are as transparent as can be. I take the opportunity to ask everyone to use, when booking with us or similar small, family run places, the hotel's own website. You, as a client, will be better off and so will we; the commissions charged by the main operators are too much and endanger small businesses like mine. Happy holiday season, Francisco Cansado Carvalho

I returned to The House, after an absence of five years, with my partner and we were not disappointed. Our room was the Girl's Room, which was spacious with an ensuite bathroom. The room was clean and furnished to a high standard. At breakfast there was plenty of choice (cereals, meats, cheese, bread, yoghurt, fresh fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice). You could also have eggs which were cooked to your choice. The House is definitely a gem in the wonderful city of Lisbon and we shall be back.

I have just come back from Lisbon and I stayed at thehouse last weekend for 2 nights with my Mum as a birthday treat, a perfect city break! Thehouse is a lovely place to stay, we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be sure to visit again. The location is easy access to trams, taxis and tuk tuk rides, with a few shops and cafes just round the corner. The beautiful church is right next door with a stunning view of it from the roof terrace. The roof terrace alone is worth the visit! The views are amazing and you can see the whole of the city! Breakfast is very nice, we were offered egg and bacon as well as continental. The rooms/bathrooms are very clean and modern with aircon included and hairdryers. Staff were always pleasant and helpful! Lisbon has so much to offer and…
