The doorman and reception staff on arrival and the waiters at breakfast are great and very obviously try hard to deliver good service to guests. That’s the only positive I can think of to write about this hotel. The website pictures are deceiving! This hotel is extremely dated with naff decor and very small bedrooms. The ceiling heights are exceptionally low which gives a cramped and claustrophobic feel. Bathrooms are tired and shower very fiddly, TV is small and ancient, poor picture quality. No mirror in the room to dress or put on make upFood at breakfast was at best average. Orange house tasted out of a cartoon and diluted, scrambled eggs watery likely made from powdered eggs. Housekeeping poor. Very annoying to return to room after a hot day relaxing to discover room not cleaned. Rang front desk, promised to send someone straight away. Waited a while. Overall, whilst most of the staff try their best, the infrastructure and catering of this hotel is just not good enough compared to others in Lisbon and certainly not 5*. On our way home we stayed at The Intercontinental and it was a class above. Amazing hotel there. Unless you get VERY cheap deal, avoid Altis Grand. Much better options nearby eg Sofitel or the Intercontinel around the same price.

I want to compliment the amazing staff that work during breakfast at Altis! Telma Alves is a sweetheart, at the end of our 8 days stay she would know exactly what to bring for the kids and always in a great mood and vibe! Diana and Rui Ribeiro were amazing too and so the young boy Henrique with a great attitude. We had a few issues in the beginning of our stay with cleaning but they resolved quickly and placed us in a better room! Evening bartenders at the rooftop were outstanding as well and thanks to the nicest brazilian bartender who served amazing Porto wine to us !

Having originally booked our stay at the next door Altis Suites, we were switched to the Grand due to an outbreak of Covid. Our room was a good size with everything you could expect from a five star hotel. Location to the main avenue and to the various transport links in Lisbon was very good as was the accessibility to all the city attractions. Service was attentive from check in and nothing was too much trouble for the staff - a special mention goes to Diana Riberio at breakfast who was the consummate professional and who will go a long way in her chosen profession. Breakfast was of a good standard and had a very good selection of hot and cold choices. The hotel boasts a very good roof bar which has good views of the city. When BA cancelled our return flight by two days, the hotel extended our stay with no fuss which was grateful received. Negatives? - the room decor was a little dark and house keeping at times was very late (one day we arrived back at our room late in the afternoon and the room had not been serviced - not what you want after a tiring day in the fantastic city of Lisbon). However, a good city centre hotel centrally located with very helpful and attentive staff.

Upon entering the hotel you immediately feel welcome. The professional staff is helpful, gracious, and their only aim is to make you feel at home. Our room had a lovely few of tree tops and it was Jaraconda season in Lisbon so our view was filled with Lavender trees. We slept great. Comfortable bed, excellent bathroom facilities, great closet space, big windows, air/conditioning was terrific. Good size room with writing desk, comfortable easy chair and lots of space to walk around. When we went down for breakfast the first morning, we were amazed at the different breakfast stations and choices. There was a fresh orange juice station, and you could make your own Latte or Expresso. The helpers of course came around with freshly brewed coffee constantly as well. There were all different types of cereals, cheeses, meats, eggs, fruit, fresh muffins. I think all the breads and pastries were home-made. Everything was delicious and well prepared. It was a feast! I only have good things to stay about out stay here. It absolutely was one reason why our trip to Lisbon was so memorable. It was also very well located on a quiet street, but close to everything. I would definitely stay here again and will continue to recommend this Hotel to anyone going to Lisbon.

I've been to Lisbon for an international conference. I booked a room at Altis Grand Hotel where the conference was held and paid 250 euro per night. The service is not according to a 5 stars hotel: one day the cleaner forgot to provide handwash. Laundry service is available if the customer brings the bag with dirty clothes to the reception. Capsules for coffee machine in the room were missing.... Small things which you don't expect in a 5 stars hotel where you paid 250 euro per night....

A few years ago I stayed at the Altis in Belem - one of the best hotels I’ve visited. Check out my review from 6/8/2017. The Altis Grand, although supposedly another 5*, did not come close. My room was clean, but tired - it all needs updating. The carpet was worn and not well-fitting. As you can see from the pictures, on the first morning the shower fell off the wall and onto my foot when I turned it on. No concern shown for whether I was injured by staff when I reported it. I was booked for 3 nights. When I checked in, the room was hot and stuffy - I turned the air con on full blast, to the lowest possible setting of 19, and went out. When I returned that night at 1am nothing had changed - so I slept in a hot room, with the noisy fan. I estimate the temperature (based on faulty gauge) was at least 25 degrees. I complained in the morning, and the immediate response was to imply I wasn’t using the air con effectively - nice! I assured them I was, and they sent someone from maintenance. When I returned for a quick shower late afternoon, before dashing out again they confirmed the air con wasn’t working. I asked for a fan - not available. They suggested I pack my stuff and move rooms - but I simply didn’t have time. After a second, hot night I could take no more. I said I wanted to check out, cancelling my reservation for the 3rd night to stay elsewhere. Whilst they could cancel, they could not refund the 3rd night - which was prepaid. I had little choice, felt forced to stay somewhere I was unhappy. Again, they offered to move rooms - so I did. Not really much other option/choice, and quite a bit of additional hassle for me. It was a room of same standard, cooler… but not that much. Again, I had to have the air con on full blast all night (loud) in order to keep the temperature down - but it only got down to 21 degrees. Still too warm. I had 3 hot and uncomfortable nights, with lots of hassle and inconvenience, when I was anticipating a luxury 5* stay. The Altis Grand could learn a lot from UK budget hotel chain Premier Inn, who offer a “good night guarantee” of your money back if you don’t get a decent night’s sleep. Premier Inn clearly care about the customer experience. To be fair, the Duty Manager did get involved part way through my stay and did try to sort things, but did not seem empowered to do what was required: “Ask the customer what they actually want (within reason) to solve the issue”. Forcing someone to stay another night where they don’t want to be is a recipe for disaster. I ate breakfast in the restaurant each day - it was ok. Decor looked like something from the 70’s. Tea served in metal pots that could really do with a proper clean, rather than just a rinse - stained with tannin (see pic). Both hotel and service felt tired and dated. Not what I expect from a 5* in 2022 - and vastly different to the sister hotel (where I would happily stay again).

Concerning your air's conditioning issue in your original room, which we present again our sincere apologies, we kindly inform you that we tried to fixed it through our Maintenance. Once it was impossible for us to fix it during your stay, and then we presented to you an alternative to change to another room. In behalf or your reservation's refund, as my Front Office/Reception colleague transmitted you twice, we couldn't make it, once your reservation wasn't directly made with the hotel. Instead it was made through an agency/tour operator. In the name of the Altis Grand Hotel Team, and also in my name, we present our apologies if you felt that we were trying to you not leave the hotel. I my assure you it isn't our Altis Hotels Group procedures and standards, to force our Guests to stay if they don't like the hotel, the facilities or the service. We only tried to give you an alternative to make your stay more confortable. Unfortunately, we couldn't achieved it. Nonethess, I kindly inform you that I already transmitted your air conditioning issue to my General Manager, and Head of Maintenance. If you may give us a second opportunity to welcome you properly at Altis Grand Hotel, Altis Belém Hotel & Spa or at another Altis Hotels Group unit, we will be more than pleased. I recommend this hotel to everyone that expects to have a 5 stars experience. They have a great reception, the room is very comfortable, the SPA has a great gym and a very beautiful pool, the breakfast is amazing, with so many choices and great quality. Not to mention the restaurants and the roof top with a beautiful view. It is located in the heart of Lisbon. And, if you need something, they do the best to help you always.
