This hostel sets the bar really high for me. This was the first time I stayed in a hostel and I always find myself comparing all the others with this place. The staff is amazing. They're very friendly and welcoming. They set-up nightly events for the travelers which is a great way to meet people that are staying there and... More

This was the friendliest, most welcoming hostel I’ve ever stayed at. Travellers House has a nice, cozy, home like feeling; cute décor and a great atmosphere. Although my friend and I arrived a few hours before check-in, we were able to start the check-in process, got information about the hostel, were offered their facilities and breakfast (3 euros, but free... We stayed here for two nights, and it was terrific! The Portugese staff is so dedicated, the house is beautifull with a nice cosy livingroom, rooms are excellent. The crew also takes a lot of time to help you find your way in the city. They gave us tips about certain places, for example the Intendente area, which wqas great.... More

This hostel is located in a great part of town a short walk from the Baixa-Chiada station. It is convenient to get to all parts of Lisbon from here and almost everything is within walking distance. However, I was not impressed with the condition of the communal bathrooms and my private room. The women's bathroom had wet floors all the... More

After travelling to 38 counties, this is the only hostel that I've made a point of retuning to. The location can't be beat. The private rooms are an excellent alternative to a hotel. The staff really love working there and the evening activities are inclusive and interesting. The old city night walking tour was one of the best things I've... More

Although a bit pricier than most hostels, it was well worth that little bit more. The location for a start couldn't be better, right in the centre of everything in Lisbon. The staff are lovely and super helpful; it didn't seem like a job to them as they just seemed like they were your mates. Rooms were a little small... More

Really lovely hostel in the center of Lisbon - would highly recommend. This is not a party hostel but they have activities (ie wine tasting) every evening so if you want to be social you can be! The hostel its self is beautiful and clean with kitchen / lounge area which guests are free to use. The only negative was... More

This place was amazing - definitely the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The staff was awesome. I loved the nightly activities - I took part in the tapas and bar crawl. I had such a great time meeting and going out with people all over the world. This hostel is one for the record books! The rooms were also... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighborhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
