This was my second stay at this fantastic place and it did not disappoint! The previous time I stayed in the apartment but this time I booked a single private room. The private rooms are situated on the floor below reception and the public areas and it was fantastic - quiet, good shower facilities and comfortable room altogether. The other...

The location is great. Pretty central to everything and right by the metro (come up the stairs, follow the kerb line round to the right, start walking up the street and it's the first door on the right). The staff are amazing. So friendly, so helpful and so welcoming. It feels like you're visiting old friends. Mix of ages and...

I enjoyed my stay at the Lisbon Poets Hostel. The location was perfect- right in the heart of the city with plenty to see and do within walking distance. Also, it was an easy ride from the airport on the Metro with one transfer. Prior to my stay, I had a bit of trepidation, as I'm a bit too old...

The location of this hostel was a major plus. The bars and restaurants were near, but the hostel was on a quiet side street. The metro was a 2 minute walk away! This hostel was also very affordable, which was a concern of mine since I am working with a travelers budget! However, I was very impressed with the genuine...

One of the nicest common areas, great breakfast and truly the kindest staff, especially Teresa who was a wealth of information and made my friend and mine's experience in Portugal so good. She gave us so many tips and recommendations which was so helpful for us to try things that are famously Portuguese. The tour to Sintra that Sam led...

Simply put, this is a great hostel. Location is absolutely perfect (though a little hard to find at first, as in every place in Lisbon...you have to really look hard for signage). Also note that you have to take the elevator up to the 5th floor to find the wonderful hostel. The area is safe, friendly, and bustling BUT not...

It's my second time at this hostel. First time in 2011, and now in 2017. It is definitely one of the bests hostels I've been. It's RIGHT NEXT to the metro Baixa Chiado, so you can walk to Cais do Sodre, Alfama, etc, the breakfast is very decent, the staff is professional, is very clean and the room is really...

We stayed in the flat, which is a gorgeous two floor, one bedroom apartment a few buildings down from the hostel. We adored it - one of the loveliest and cosiest places I've stayed anywhere. Like an airbnb but with the amenities of a hostel (free breakfast, helpful staff, group tours, etc.) We did the 10 euro dinner one night...

I spent a day in a private room. Smack in the centre, walkable to most sights. Cfe Brasilera just round the corner. The room was clean and pleasant and the bathrooms too. The people at the reception were friendly and helpful. I would certainly return.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighborhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Set between cobblestone alleys and old streets, Lisbon Poets Hostel is the perfect place to soak up the charm of this mythical city. Located in Chiado - the most happening district in Lisbon - you'll find us amongst the most beautiful buildings which were restored to their former glory after the earthquake of 1755. It's also the arts district - you'll find out what Portuguese street art is all about, as well as many small art galleries in the least expected places, little-known concert venues and the best alternative designer decor shops in the city. Lisbon Poets hostel sits above 'A Brasileira', Lisbon's most famous cafe, and is just steps away from the Baixa-Chiado metro exit. Just beside us is Bairro Alto, the famous nightlife district where you can dance the night away, with streets full of bars, cafes and general booze-filled fun times. ... more   less
