First impression is "are you sure??" Once you climb the steep staircase, hostel has a cool commune vibe. Contrary to TA description, breakfast is 3€ unless specifically included in your room selection, there is a 1€ per person bed tax that must be paid in cash, plus a 10€ key deposit. Location is good, lots of walking but you can... More

This hostel is located in Alfama, close to the river and the main train station (Santa Apolonia) and is an old house but with very nice and colourful decorations. Even if the days were extremely hot the hostel was quite cool. My room was in the fourth floor and had a small balcony and river view. Very nice!

We had a very nice stay at this hostel in the heart of Lisbon. The building is located in the Alfama district, within walking distance from most of the points of interest. Parking places are available on the street in front of the building. Our room was located on the third floor with a view to the back of the... More

The location is perfect to start walking into the old town. The rooms are ok, our room smelled bit moisty. Despite every floor has it's own WiFi network, it didn't work in the room, it only works in the stairway. At the central area ( the breakfast and reception is on the 1st floor) WiFi works OK (they are working... More

We stayed in a private room with four beds but had plenty of space. For those that want the Fado experience, just on the hillside behind the hostel is a plethora of small restaurants sporting Fado music. It's also a short walk to the castle. Parking isn't bad if you get to the pot across the main road. It will... More

I book an entire ensuite bedroom and I was quite dissapointed. The good points are that the hostel is within a short walk distance from the center and the personnel are very friendly. Behind the hotel, there is all the noisy restaurants and bars of Alafama, so it's very difficult to sleep the night. The bedroom don't have any air... More

Nice hostel for a nice price. Beds are made, a more then decent breakfast is available and the rooms are pretty spacious and clean. All of that for a good price and on a nice location. Great value for a hostel, would definitely recommend it!

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighborhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
