Set on the absolute waterfront of Cascais’s dramatic Atlantic coastline, Farol Hotel reflects the unique charm of the township. Delightful old-world houses and cobbled streets frame a graceful bay on Portugal’s spectacular Estoril Coast to tell the story of a bygone era. The capital, Lisbon and the international airport are an easy 35-minute drive along excellent roads. A local train also runs between the city and Cascais. Lisbon is served by full service and budget airlines from all the major European hubs, which include Frankfurt, Paris, London and Zurich plus Stockholm, and Moscow. Arrive fuss-free and in style at Lisbon International Airport with a pre-arranged Farol Hotel limousine to meet you and transfer the short scenic trip to Cascais. As a proud member of prestigious Design Hotels, Farol Hotel is a wonderfully eclectic composition of adventurous architecture that embraces a remodeled 19th century private mansion that was once owned by the Count of Cabral, together with unique contemporary additions. The result is an inspire union of the old and the new. The Farol Hotel has a non-smoking policy in all its areas.

First of all, I'm not sure where some of the negative reviews are coming from but we had an excellent experience at this hotel. The location can't be beat and it's right on the ocean. It's an easy walk into town as well. The lobby is beautiful and our room was amazing with views of the ocean all around. Loved the pool area as well. The buffet breakfast was good and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The service at the pool was a little slow but other than that I definately would return!

I’ve thought long and hard about what to say about the Farol Hotel. I think that individual experience depends very much on how much you paid for your room and accordingly how your expectations are set. We paid c£215 per night for a spacious room but without the sea view. We found the bar prices quite steep. And for us the Farol absolutely delivered. After a few years cooped up mostly in land I was determined to be as close to the sea as possible, and the Farol can’t get closer. The pool area is simple but shows off the amazing setting, the pool isn’t massive but is unheated seawater which compliments the Atlantic vibe. The terraces, bar and restaurant have stunning views. The staff were uniformly attentive and friendly, reception’s tip to go to Guincho beach was excellent. There is a metalled cycle track along the coast which makes it very easy to get to. We used the hotel bikes which could use some tlc, maybe take for a test ride first as there are other hire options. Our room was very pleasant and immaculately clean. In the interests of balance I think it’s been a while since the hotel was last refurbished - today you’d find more sockets for example. I suspect that some of the common areas may be ready for a refresh, but given the last couple of years in the hospitality industry it’s not surprising that some things are overdue. Overall, at the right price, highly recommended and we would go back.

Room Tip: Guincho beach by bike but beware the hotel bikes which on our visit could have used some...

This hotel is overpriced, and masquerading as a five star! We had generator like sound each night during our stay. Breakfast was moderate at best. Only plus is location. We have visited Portugal for many years and this was our worst hotel experience. I could go on but.,

Downstairs is modern, spacious and opens out to a spectacular terrace with a large pool facing the ocean. Upstairs, the rooms seem fine but need little tweaking and upgrading but are very comfortable, well ours was, The food was first class, the service warm and helpful. We felt very at home and will return.

I first visited the Farol in 2013 at Christmas time for a fabulous sushi lunch and a memorable New Year's Eve party.... In August 2017, I enjoyed a stay in the wonderful and romantic designer room called " Amor" where my man and I had the best couple's massage side by side! And we came back to Farol on July 29,2022 for another stay in a designer room on the second floor with a killer view of the rocks and the ocean. Comfy, welcoming room, firm bed, spotless and terrific shower. All the 5star amenities at the pool and bars and the restaurant has THE best curated breakfast buffet (truly french croissants) ...all so fresh and not overdone! .... For lunch, Sushi Design is a must.. my third visit and Sushi keeps blowing me away. Inventive and delectable.. cerviche is NEXT-LEVEL! All the Farol's stylish boutique quirks and intimacy make for a unique experience...I keep coming back and the 5 people I've sent there over the years-- including two this summer-- were all bowled over too! Cascais is is bustling enclave and the Farol is just far enough from the action, tucked away on the perfect perch!

Worst possible experience. The “suite” which cost more than €1000 per night has ripped carpets and the bathroom is full of dust. It even lacks basic amenities like cotton pads. The breakfast selection is on the poorest side and the service remains to be improved, certainly not the luxury 5 star hotel. To make the stay truly unforgettable, apparently the music at the event center is allowed till 4am, the fact about which we haven’t been notified in advance and the music made it impossible to leave the window open.

I am right now at the hotel, I saw a nice room on the website and they gave me a very old room. We are asking for someone to help us and they say there is no one to make a decision. They offer me to leave and they will let me know later if they will make a refund or not.. that was their only solution. Very bad service, very bad rooms.

Quaint, small hotel close to downtown Cascais. Loved it’s quirky and stylish decor. The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel has bikes to rent and we biked along the ocean up to some fun restaurants and bars. I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and we plan to come back for sure. Loved our stay here.

The hotel lobby and pool area is spectacular. But once you open the door to your room, you will feel like you are in a different resort. The rooms are small, dated and lack the amenities you’d expect for over 300€ a night. When we asked if there were any better rooms available (we were willing to pay the difference) the front desk staff said they were sold out. But their website has openings listed. When pressed the front desk staff said they only had the penthouse suite for 800€ more a night. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Especially avoid room 203.

We had two ocean front rooms with balconies (213 and 214, I think). They were very nice and looked out onto the beautiful ocean and the surf breaking on the rocks just 50-60 feet away. Towels passed my glasses test (Dry my glasses with them and crystal clear!). Staff was friendly and helpful. Common areas and pool area very nice. Breakfast was good. We had lunch one day at the sushi restaurant and it was good but seemed expensive (16 Euros for 1 tuna + guacamole taco). Location is great with an easy walk into town. I would suggest that the negative reviews on the Farol are likely a function of room choice - more so than any other hotel I can think of. If one books the balcony oceanfront rooms, I can't imagine not enjoying them.
