Superb! Top destination to rest! To recharge! The sound of the water, the birds singing! The smell of the pinetrees. An amazing place with a top breakfast in a great location! Do not forget to try the honeycomb! Can’t decide if next time is with or without kids (it looked perfect for them too)!

Perfect place to rest in couple. Super nice staff, marvellous bedroom, impecable gardens and 5star environment ! You must never miss breakfast and the nice waiters always there to satisfy your queries. The only problem is that we need to work and cannot stay there on a permanent basis!

great family friendly hotel with exceptional service standards. Rooms really good size and the the rooms with bunkbeds are ideal and fun concept for children. Location is isolated with not much within walking distance but amazing cliff/ water views just 10 minutes walk away. Recommend booking half board or All inclusive options if available. Plenty for kids to do with kids club, open play areas, movie nights and heated pool. Front line staff were amazing and no request was too much for them.

Well, this hotel is marketed as being family oriented, and indeed it is! However, we stayed, as a couple, for a week after the summer holidays and consequently found the hotel to be fairly quiet apart from a small number of families with pre-school children. There were two group conferences while we were there too; but apart from one night which was a little noisy it didn’t impact our stay at all. Our room was very spacious, with a large bathroom featuring both a shower and a tub. The bed was comfortable and our balcony had views across the gardens. From what I could see, all the rooms are a good size. The hotel architecture is modern and the gardens are very well looked after and attractive. The pool “hangout”, which is away from the main hotel building, is spacious and not overlooked. It has its own bar that serves drinks and snacks. This is a quiet location that is well outside of the main town of Cascais. It is a pleasant walk of 40 minutes or so, but also easy to take a taxi for about €6 if preferred. If you want to be in the centre of the action, then this hotel is NOT the right choice for you! We took advantage of the on-site bike hire team (Bike Station) and went on a couple of e-bike tours with them; good quality bikes and the guide made the trips really enjoyable – top marks! The food in the main restaurant we found to be of a good standard, although the menu is not that extensive, a few more options would have been welcome. Finally I have to mention the staff, who were all very friendly and helpful from the front desk, to the waiters in the restaurant and housekeeping; they all made us feel most comfortable.

Excellent facilities with lots for kids to do such as a football pitch and table tennis. It also has lots of things to offer like restaurants, various pools and nicely designed rooms. If you have any free time I would recommend you take a walk down a pathway along the coast. If you want to swim in the sea I would not recommend going for a swim there as it is a very rocky cliff edge. If you are also looking to have a day or two in Lisbon I would recommend staying at the Martinhal in Lisbon. I would recommend grabbing an ice cream or two at Nosolo Italia in Lisbon as well.

We have used this place many times as a safe place for the kids to run around and play while the adults chat. The staff are always friendly and happy to accommodate your requirements. It’s also a great hotel for visitors to the area with lots of distractions for the kids

We had a short 3 night stay at the end of a longer trip in Portugal. We stayed in one of the bunk bed rooms with our two and four year olds. Overall, we had a really lovely stay and would happily return again. We particularly liked the large children's playground and pool area. Our 4 year old went to the kids club for two mornings and really loved it. In addition to breakfast (which was of a high quality and plentiful), we ate at the m-bar a couple of times. The food was decent and fairly reasonable priced for the area; the location, overlooking the playground, was however fantastic as the kids could play while waiting for and after eating and we could enjoy a drink during the process. Our kids made a few friends during our short stay, which was testament to the family friendly environment. Staff were invariably warm and friendly. Would recommend to others - and plan to return in the future.

I would actually rate this hotel 4.5 stars. We came as a family with 2 boys aged 8 and 6. We felt they were the perfect age for this hotel. The kids club staff were lovely. Our children happily went there a few times for the morning sessions. They always left happy! The choice of swimming pools, pool table, table tennis, ‘cinema’ room (evening only) and wonderful playground kept the kids entertained. During the main peak times of year you’ll be very lucky to have James and Charlotte entertaining the kids in the evenings and at the main pool hangout. We loved them! The hotel are very lucky indeed to have this wonderful pair. In fact I’d say they seemed a little overworked, and the hotel should really have more staff to entertain the children in the evenings (besides kids club team). It felt like they were cost cutting. James and Charlotte have theme nights 5 nights week. (Eg pirate night). The cinema room was a nice touch. Kids walk in freely and sit on beanbags. There are 2 films an evening. DOWNSIDE… everything is repeated every week. We stayed for 10 days and realised theme nights were on repeat as well as the films. Another cost cutting exercise? This wasn’t good for those of us staying longer than a week. Another negative aspect of the hotel was there are no shops or local restaurants in adequate walking distance (with kids). We had too many meals at the hotel, which were very expensive! We ended going half board to make things more affordable. They don’t offer snack food or small plates of food. I would have just loved a sandwich occasionally! Everything is big and expensive! The hotel was immaculate, the staff were very friendly. Shoutout to Clara who was fantastic, and the hard working waiting staff! The beds were super comfy! Our bathroom was fab. The balcony didn’t have a view, but it felt private. Housekeeping was just ok. Things were often left out after they’d been. But they’re probably over-worked too! We would return, but probably won’t due to the kids club only going up to 9 years. Overall a really wonderful, relaxing holiday!

Room Tip: Ubers are very easy to order from the hotel. We didn’t bother hiring a car. Kids club only goes...

This was our second time staying at Martinhal Cascais - we previously stayed about five years earlier when our two boys were younger - 4 and 2 years old. This time our boys were 9 and 5 and our daughter was 1. We had such an amazing stay the first time we knew we wanted to book again for our first family as five of us because we knew we’d be well looked after, this hotel is so brilliantly set up for families whilst also being a luxury hotel for adults to enjoy too. On our second visit the hotel felt a wee bit tired and the food was not a patch on how we remembered it. In fact the half board food was quite a disappointment especially in terms of the offering for children which on our first trip had been incredible. This time every night it was the same tired looking Margherita pizza and plain pasta and the adult food wasn’t great either. The spa definitely felt like it could do with a refresh bit everything else was still brilliant and we had a great stay. The boys are probably a bit old for the kids club and the older group’s activities were held in a basement room when they’d far rather be outside playing games and football. There was a football session offered each day but we didn’t realise until we were already booked on and the session had begun that this was quite a high additional cost and as my kids do a lot of football training I am familiar with what makes a good session and sadly I didn’t think there was anywhere near worth the money. The kids just loved the football pitch though and the fact that it is in the kids club area which can only be accessed or exited using a room key meant we were able to leave the boys with their newly made football friends for a little while while we tended to our daughter. They would happily have played on that football pitch all day long every single day! The playground near the kids club is great for children of al ages and as a parent spending time there is good, it doesn’t feel like hanging around waiting in a park at all. The location is great. Cascais is a lovely town, the beach is fab and we love trips to Lisbon and Sintra. The local train service is great if you don’t have a car. Overall I really like Martinhal a lot and I love the idea behind the brand. I think the kids facilities maybe best for under 5s but we still had a really relaxing stay with staff who couldn’t have done more for us, thank you.

We stayed here for 7 nights in August with a six and nine year old. Review would be 4 stars but given 5 as some of the other reviews seem harsh and it’s really a 4.5. This holiday was originally booked for 2020 but was rearranged due to covid. I’d suggest the kids would have been the ideal age two years ago as our nine year old being that bit older was not wanting to join in on all the activities etc. this time around. The room was one of the bunk bed ones. Again having booked for 2 years ago there was a bit of a question re whether our kids were now on the big side for the bunks… the room and bathroom (shower, bath, two sinks) however were very large and the bunk beds substantial so any concerns we did have were quickly alleviated. We decided not to hire a car and still went out and about using Ubers (€4.5 in to cascais in the day up to double that at night). We’ve been to lisbon before so seen many of the places nearby and if you want to travel about a car would be useful. We walked one day down to the sea and found some lovely restaurants and shops etc. Bike hire was also available and there were loads of trails you could take. For food we were half board which when we booked was well publicised but doesn’t appear to be now. This was a good choice. The only confusing thing was some bills when signing had meals taken off and others didn’t. When our bill came at the end of the stay the most expensive meals each day in any of the eateries was taken off irrespective of what we signed for. This included the “special event” buffets which, whilst we weren’t told about this, had some drinks for free as well. A better explanation on what is and isn’t included would have been good as we sort of had to work it out for ourselves. Food was decent in all the venues (pool bar included). All the menus are via the guest website which can be hard to follow on your phone rather than paper or a better web version. The lounge bar we didn’t eat at but had plenty of drinks and the bar staff there made a superb mojito! The feature buffets (we did 3 and went out on other nights - there are some lovely restaurants in cascais) at the main restaurant all came with entertainment and the best night was Texas / cowboy with a bucking bronco for the kids. One of the entertainment team is also around all evening if the kids want a distraction. Even if not booked in to the main restaurant you can sit round the outside area and your kids join in. It’s not in your face though and aimed at children not adults which we liked. You could join in as much or as little as you want. Eating at the m bar was also good in the evenings as it was more chilled and you could let the kids go out and play on the play area. In the day there is a free kids club in the morning. Our kids only went once as the nine year old was at the upper age limit and whilst he enjoyed it said he didn’t want to go again. In the afternoon the kids club team put on entertainment normally down by the pool hangout. There was zorbing football, an inflatable slide etc. Some activities had a €15 fee e.g. making tie dye t shirts. Again entertainment is not in your face and the pool space is large and spaced out enough to not interrupt if you don’t want it to. There are 3 pools areas. The main pool hangout is in a large setting. In the mornings it is very quiet as most of the kids seemed to be at the kids club. There are plenty of sun Loungers dotted around though lots are in shaded areas. There was never a time when getting a lounger was an issue. Another pool is at the Spa and which is really nice. Here it tended to be mostly adults (especially in mornings) but kids were welcomed and ours loved this space outside. Again there are loungers here though not as many as it’s a small around the pool. Inside the spa area there is an indoor pool with jacuzzi, whirlpool, steam room and suana. All decent. Th last pool is by the kids club / play areas. We never used this mama only as the other pools were so good though it looked nice but much smaller than the others. Overall we loved our week here. The staff were all excellent especially Tania Santos who made our kids feel special every morning at breakfast. The hotel could do with a spruce up in certain areas. Carpets looked a bit tired. Minor wear and tear in others. We asked about the air con as it kept switching itself off but maintenance came and it worked fully thereafter. Despite these points if you want a family holiday thats geared up for young kids with chilled out vibes this is a superb place to go!
