I felt I was in work rather than on a holiday break . It is very much a conference hotel/ business meeting place . There were 3 conferences happening when we were there . The positives - the room was huge with fabulous views - however the toilet with glass surrounding doors is definitely an acquired taste . The golf course is excellent - we had the opportunity to play and it was really enjoyable . A special shout out to the concierge desk particularly Daniel who could not do enough for you . Negatives - the bar area is soulless . After returning from an excellent dinner we would normally go for a night cap but the lack of atmosphere did nothing to encourage us to visit. The spa opening hours - we would have visited prior to playing golf but the opening hours were limited . Breakfast is average - but certainly nothing outstanding . This was the second of our hotels in Portugal on our current trip and was the least favourite.…
The hotel is very modern and furnished to a high quality. The staff were all super helpful and charming, the service was impeccable. The breakfast was very good and it was an ideal hotel for a golfing break, with a super and well maintained golf course. We ate a light lunch which was very good. You are not far from the restaurants and nightlife of Cascais, a nearby town which has a great vibe. Would highly recommend.
My husband and I stayed here in September 22 for 4 nights. (We did try to book for the week but it was fully booked) yes the hotel isn’t near any shops but for us it was perfect as we do like to walk. Also there are plenty of bikes, scooters that can be rented but we did not use them so couldn’t tell you how much they were. A good walk along the coast from the hotel which we did every day. The cafe on the dunes Cresmina is excellent value for money. Food is delicious! The hotel I find is unusual and not really to my taste but the room was large and blue (walls, flooring) no carpets, or many pictures on the wall but it may be to some peoples tastes. I didn’t lik the way the toilet and shower were next to each another, I do like my privacy!! The hotel was exceptionally clean. Breakfast was excellent but sorry to say the meals at night were too expensive. We had one dinner (we arrived late in the evening from the airport so it was convenient) and almost sure the same menu was served every night so not a lot of choice. We had one lunch and again over priced for a cheese/tomato panini 14€ need to mention the waiter Ricardo Persona who was very polite and pleasant to us and made the effort to serve us. It’s a shame the menus cannot be changed and priced accordingly as I am sure more people would dine here. My husband played golf here. Again I would like to mention the gent (long blond hair) who took his booking. We didn’t get his name and was very helpful to the questions my husband asked. The day before my husband asked concierge if he could play golf on his own but the guy who was dealing with said no, it wasn’t possible. I said you should go back and ask the next day. Pleased that he did as he said it was a good golf course to play and it wasn’t too windy when he did. Staff in general were ok but wanted to mention (or don’t get caught out) the maids will leave 3 boxes on the dressing table. Hangover tablets, sleep spray and gut tablets. I did open the sleep spray but not the other boxes. We decided to go for a walk and leave the luggage at the hotel until we could get into the hotel just down the road, while out my husband got an email to say that we had been charged €60 for the boxes as I had opened them all. I was prepared to pay the €20 euros for the spray but I did not open the other boxes. Anyway, we checked this with reception when we got back and asked to see the 2 boxes. Someone has tapered with the seal. I actually said to her when I opened the box the spray was in I had to rip it open as the seal was firmly attached to the box. Anyway reception wasn’t pleased and reluctantly refunded our credit card. If they hadn’t we would have stopped the payment going through. It did make us laugh as they actually asked us if we would add a tip onto our final bill and we did! Not given 5 stars as I think it’s a bit of a cheek to ask for €25 to use the indoor swimming pool, gym, steam room etc. I just used the outdoor pool which was very clean. Would I return to this hotel, no! We all like value for money and I really don’t think hotel provides it! On a positive note I would come back to the area of Cascais as I really like it. We have always gone to the Algarve but would think twice now! Lastly, I see many people write reviews for this hotel but never get a reply from the hotel. it’s a pity the manager cannot act on them as most hotels like the feedback.…
Somewhat of a colossus, this glass and steel hotel rises up from its surroundings. The building is huge, flooded with natural light and full of modern design features. It is impersonal but not unfriendly. Good, helpful service. We were there to play golf and it was very smooth and well-organised. The golf course was fun and varied, although the finish could have been better and the greens were very slow. Breakfast was good and varied. The room was very good - large in size, modern, clean and comfortable, with a great terrace overlooking the golf course and the sea. The one negative was the glass shower and toilet - the lack of privacy not to my personal taste. A trip into nearby Cascais, and the many restaurants, is a must. The hotel provides a free shuttle in, and a taxi back cost around 5 Euros. There are also two fish restaurants walking distance from the hotel. The restaurant at the hotel has a limited menu, but what we ate was very good. Overall, a design hotel worth a visit - especially if you are a golfer.…
Very expensive, bugs in my room, they charge for everything you can imagine on top of a 5 star price. I can’t imagine how this hotel could be 5 stars. When I explained there Was a bug crawling around in my bed. I was told that the maid must’ve left the window open. But I don’t know how that’s possible when I checked in late that evening
Excellent luxury hotel. Helpful staff. Huge rooms. Modern and open environment. Wonderful views over the pool and grounds with golf course. The service was first class and they could manage vegetarians... breakfast had a vast array of different dishes.
What a strange hotel. The staff were generally helpful but uninformative and strangely reserved . Expensive with a very weird mix of clientele. Maybe something to do with criminal money ? Great location and stunning views but just hard to like it.
We stayed here as my sister was getting married at a nearby beach club and I rarely do hotel reviews but had to in this case. This hotel is not a 5 star hotel- I’ve stayed at better 4 star hotels. It’s a huge hotel, corridors resemble a hospital and it’s very cold and lacking any personality. The rooms Yes, rooms are big but they’re not welcoming at all. The whole room is a blue colour, the walls, floor (blue lino in a 5 star?) sinks etc and there are no extra touches/soft furnishing like rugs, cushions, vases etc so it literally feels like a hospital room. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. Robes and slippers are provided for all guests which I’d expect from a 5 star hotel anyway. The whole room was dark, even with the curtains open in the middle of summer, there were only 4 ceiling lights down one side and the rest were lamps. There is however, a light up mirror for doing your makeup but it wasn’t bright enough really. Rooms were clean and turned down each day and ONE small bottle of water was left daily (for 2 paying customers?!). The balcony again, due to the design of the hotel, was largely shaded and dark (all blue of course). We asked for a sea view but could only see the sea if we went to the edge of the balcony and looked to the far right (Room 333). Staff Staff were very attentive on the main reception area and extremely helpful. They knew it was my sisters wedding and kept asking how it was all going and wishing her well. There were chocolates left in her room too which was a nice touch. The breakfast staff were also nice but when ordering an iced latte, it really did depend who you got as to how it was made - some were great, some were awful. They did offer alternate milks though which was good. They were a bit over zealous at clearing the plates, once my husband got up to get some bread and when he got back the remnants of his breakfast were gone. Staff by the pool were pretty useless. For a 5 star, I’m expecting people to come and ask if we’d like drinks etc but every time you wanted a drink (despite us being the only group by the pool) we had to either get up and ask them to come over or wave them over. Drinks did usually arrive quickly and once staff brought them over they were friendly. If you wanted your umbrella to be put up you had to ask, one member of staff reluctantly put ours up and didn’t secure the umbrella properly so it flew off in the wind.. hitting another member of staff and my mum in the process (thank goodness it wasn’t a child). We then made sure that our umbrellas were properly put up going forward which they were. Food and drinks Overpriced and average. €13.50 for a G&t and €16 for a cheese and ham toastie?!! We’re from London and used to high prices but this takes the biscuit. They know you’ll pay the prices because this hotel is in the middle of nowhere with not a shop in walking distance (less than half an hour). The breakfast was ok, the sausages and bacon weren’t great and there were no baked beans, hash browns etc. Usually in a 5 star hotel you’re spoilt for choice. You could order things like waffles, crepes, eggs Benedict but there was no menu so you never knew what the options were. The bread selection was great and the fresh fruit and tomatoes were delicious. You’re far better getting a quick taxi / half hour walk down to the nearest town and eating there (Casa de Guia) or going into Cascais. In Casa de guia there is a cafe on the sea front that does the best sandwiches for about €8 and drinks were half the price!! Location In the middle of no where, you had to get taxis everywhere or walk for half an hour plus. I think if you were playing golf it wouldn’t be an issue but for us, it felt too isolated. There is also lots of building work going on so many cranes are ruining the view from the pool. The hotel was dead in the week, no one by the pool bar us but became busy over the weekends. All in all we feel let down by the hotel, even with the discount we got for the wedding, we still feel it was expensive for what it is. We always stay in 5 star hotels and this is certainly not one of them. We had friends staying at Onryia and it was far nicer. I feel that by making service by the pool better and adding some warming touches to the rooms, it would hugely improve the hotel. We wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you’re looking for the 5 star experience.…
This was our second stay at the Oitavos. It has so many positives including massive rooms with super comfortable beds, massive bath and the toilet with extras! We had a massive balcony too which was ideal for quiet mornings in the sun. The restaurant is very good, desserts in particular were incredible! We used the outdoor and indoor pool and I had a fantastic massage at short notice. Very accommodating! It was relatively quiet or maybe it just felt like that. Either way it was definitely very relaxing compared to super busy Cascais. We felt it was good value for money. Staff were always super pleasant. The only downfall was trying to get a drink or wine pre dinner. We enjoy a drink before dinner but felt it was not on offer and we had to ask a few times for a wine list. That’s just a minor point though! The desserts more than made up for it! If you want a really big hotel room and out of the hustle of Cascais this hotel is ideal!…
We went there only to have breakfast and play golf. The hotel charged EUR 30 per person for the only choice of breakfast (buffet) - quite overpriced compared to the average price of other high-end breakfast choices in the area. On top of that, even if there was plenty of staff in the restaurant, they never delivered the one thing we ordered ourselves: a caffe latte. The location is ok if you only want to play golf and sit by a relatively small pool with no view, otherwise, the entire area is quite deserted or under construcion, has no infrastructure in the walking distance and has no good views compared to what you can get in Cascais area for a much better price.
