Let's start with the good - it's in a convenient location only 15 minutes walk from the main bus stop and central to most sightseeing. The rooms are very clean and bright, and much of the hostel has some great style and artistic touches to it. The terrace is phenomenal - spacious and with a stunning view, it almost feels like it's going to waste simply as a space we were told was "just for smokers". Needs a bar up there or something! The bathroom is very clean. Wifi is reliable. However, it's the little things that hold it back from being up there with some of the best. I accept that its central location lends itself to street noise (particularly lots of car honking on Friday and Saturday nights) but any noise in the hallways or common areas reverberates through the entire hostel due to the high ceilings and hard surfaces. Check-in was a little confusing - having to wait until 4pm wasn't a problem, but on arriving we didn't see any staff to help with storing our bags, and had to search around the hostel for someone working there. The other reviews are also correct about no soap being in the toilets/bathroom, very odd! Didn't use the kitchen but it looked rather sparse. All in all it's still a hostel I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Coimbra, just remember to bring a pair of earplugs.

This hostel has huge potential for its great location and view but very poor management and staff. The huge terrace with a beautiful view facing the river is empty and neglected. The common kitchen is far from being a cosy common area and in fact people don´t use it. Pros: wifi, value (for private rooms), location Cons: atmosphere, staff, facilities, cleanliness

Pros - location close to train station and centre of town - entire hostel clean and well maintained - nice bathrooms - excellent WiFi Cons - sporadically staffed at accommodation - very very poorly equipped kitchen - can be very noisy at nighttime Overall a decent hostel for the price but could be so much better with just a few small touches!

This place is a good choice for location, price, cleanliness. Details below: Absolutely gorgeous inside, with a beautiful winding staircase, the walls covered in azuelos, a nice sized kitchen, a large common area, fantastic WIFI all over, incredible view of the river, a 5-10 minute walk from the train station and the tourist office is literally a 10 second walk away. There are plenty of restaurants and a few pharmacies close by and the University is also very close. (Tip: go to tourist office and grab maps etc before you check in) So the check-in is pretty much after 4pm, if you want to come prior to that you should contact them and arrange this as there is not always someone at reception. If you are coming here looking for hostel environment of meeting lots of people pllease understand its more of a hotel in that regard. There is a lot of space of socializing in the lounge and kitchen but didn't see a single person in there ever. The receptionist however - Edwardo - was one of the friendliest guys ever and he made it a point to introduce all travelers to each other in the lobby area. Edwardo really goes above and beyond and should be commended on his efforts. Always had something funny to say and always asked how I was and what I did for the day and on my arrival I was greeted with a hug etc. Makes a huge difference in otherwise a pretty quiet hostel. Note that there is no soap in the general bathroom area and there is only one bathroom (pretty large) which is shared by men and women. The showers are amazing and I personally found it to be clean and fantastic shower pressure. Remember to keep moving inside the shower capusle otherwise the lights will go out. There are hooks to hang your clothing inside the shower capsule so you have some privacy when you are finished to get dressed. If you leave your room to go shower however make sure you take your key with you if you are in a room with other travelers otherwise they might lock up and leave. There is no included breakfast at the hostel but a Continente grocery store about 10-15 minutes walk so you can bring things back and put in fridge. Also there are lots of little cafes right outside. Also note that there is not always someone at reception - so if you have a question its best to ring the bell. There is a laundromat also about a 15 min walk away - small load wash and dry for 6 euro - very clean and easy - Coimbre Lavandaria. I stayed in a 4 person female dorm. The walls were paper thin and I'm not kidding when I say you could hear everything in next room. Solution: bring earplugs:) The room was clean but please note no lockers inside the room. The pillows were super thin and the bed itself was quite stiff - as in your could hear a lot of creaking when turning over. I am not a fussy person at all but it was honestly not very comfortable. Perhaps just this bunk that I got. As well it appears there was only one power outlet in the room connected to a multiplier - so pretty much all four of us had one space for our cell phone charging. Would I stay here again? 110%

Has the potential for 5 stars with a few simple upgrades. The kitchen let us done with its lack of toasters. Pan fried bread for breakfast is simply not the same! The rumours are all true; the bathroom has no soap. Staff, atmosphere, cleanliness, location all perf. Good home base for exploring the sights of Coimbra.
