We stayed here on our way to Porto. Why? Because it's a freakin' palace! And well, I am a princess. Seriously, that's what i was looking for on this trip, because it was my honeymoon. So, the hotel/palace was easy to find. GPS works wonders too. We arrived and the place is gorgeous. We checked in and were led to...

We had high-hopes for staying in a renovated Palace. It was beautiful from the outside (including the grounds) but went down-hill from there. We stayed in a Spa Room, in the modern wing of the building. The hotel is oddly configured through winding hallways and seemingly empty, large open spaces. Throughout, "wear and tear" was evident everywhere. The corners of...

Wonderful classic/modern oasis right across the bridge from town.  Michelin Star restaurant on site, beautiful spa and grounds will make you want to linger. Main building is beautifully restored grand mansion with classic European guest and public rooms.  Hotel also has a modern addition with "spa" rooms with nice terraces overlooking the garden. Spa room was fair sized with modern decor and...

If you like the easy relaxed and quiet ambiance of nice traditional-style hotels, you will really like this one. It is somewhat quirky, but with nice rooms, pretty common areas and grounds, an excellent restaurant, and a very attentive and helpful staff. It's a short walk over a pedestrian bridge to the center of Coimbra, and the hotel grounds itself...

This is a lovely retreat after hiking the hills(!) of Coimbra proper. We had a ground floor room in the Palace proper, with a lovely private garden, which we enjoyed for relaxing. We're glad we walked around the grounds to the fountains as well. The bed and sheets were extremely comfortable. Staff was very helpful - getting tickets to Fado...

This retreat is truly a unique place to stay. While it is slightly farther afield from the city center than other places one could stay in Coimbra (about a 15 minute walk across the river), it has a very rich history and some amazing gardens. Until our stay, I was not familiar with the story of Pedro and Ines, but...

THe location was fine. But we had trouble finding it. We didn't realize that we were following signs to the golf course of the same name, rather than the hotel. Eventually, after circling around a few times, we figured it out. It is outside of the city, about a 15 minute walk away from the center, the price to be...

This is a beautiful hotel, in a stunning setting. It is an oasis of peace, about a 15min walk from the city centre. The bedrooms are spacious and we had a private garden. It has a good pool. The staff are very helpful. The gardens are beautiful. The restaurant has a Michelin star and serves excellent food but is expensive.

Quinta das Lágrimas is a perfect example of excellent taste in terms of the design and quality of the rooms both in the new wing and in the palace itself. The small museum in the hotel is a delight for all lovers of the story of Inês de Castro and D Pedro. In the magnificent gardens you can visit the...
