Detailed Reviews
The Talisman Hotel in downtown Ponta Delgada was a great choice for my last visit. The small lobby off the road was welcoming, as was the clerk at the desk who checked me in.
Even though it was before the normal 2pm check in time, they had a room and in no time, I was in the elevator just off the large covered atrium and on my way up to my very clean room on the second floor.
My room, while bring an interior double, was well lit by a window opening to the atrium, very spacious with a queen bed that could be separated, a seating are with table and two chairs, a large flat screen TV and luggage rack.
The alcove before the bathroom had a sink with mirror, a good supply of plush towels and toiletries, opposite was a nice sized closet with built in drawers and a safe.
The bathroom held a bidet, toilet and large tub with shower. It was deep and offered a nice soak. They have an emergency cord just outside the tub but with enough length to grab if needed.
The hotel is next to the Padre Sena Freitas Garden and the restaurant cafe opens out onto it. They offer a very good breakfast, either buffet which had a good selection or a la carte. Lunch and dinner menus was good too and the meals delicious.
There is a very large lounge adjacent with a small bar in the corner with a good selection of wines, beers and liquor to choose from which can be enjoyed in the very comfortable seats at the bottom of the atrium.
Just off the atrium is a very large and cosy pub/sports bar where you can relax in big leather chairs, watch the sports on the big screen TVs, play darts or pool. You can also order from the kitchen and dine in there.
The hotel has a rooftop pool and gym with a deck for sunning, with views over the city. They have a small massage room to help you relax. They have a small library with fireplace on the first floor where you can relax with a good book.
Wifi is very good and offers good connection throughout the property. They even have a small play area for small children outside the library on the first floor. All floors are accessible by elevator.
Next to the dining room and looking out onto the Park is a very good sized event Hall where business meetings or wedding receptions can be held. The catering is supplied by the restaurant.
There is a market just down the street where water and snacks can be brought. A pharmacy, local cafes and souvenir shops are nearby. The front desk can arrange tours and car rentals.
Overall an excellent option for visiting Ponta Delgada and a great base to explore the very walkable city. Obrigado to the staff for a wonderful stay.

We stayed seven nights and it was excellent value for money with lovely staff and a great location within walking distance to everything in the city, including local cafes and restaurants. We had a large room with a balcony overlooking the street- nice bathroom and two twin beds. Buffet breakfast was excellent and the staff would bring us barista coffee at no extra cost. We had two dinners there which were quite good. Nice little pool and patio area on the roof with great city views. Staff was very kind- on my wife's birthday we came back to find champagne and dessert waiting for us! Desk staff was very helpful and checkout was a breeze. We paid 50 euros a night and I don't think you could find such value anywhere in Europe, and we were lucky enough to be there in the middle of Carnival. We recommend it highly

Traveling in January, we spent $55 for a lovely room with a little balcony overlooking the cobbled pedestrian road, overlooking rooftops covered in grass, with a sliver of the Atlantic in view. This is a very sweet, small, civilized hotel: such a treasure! Beds were firm (beds overseas are always too firm for me), staff was nice and competent. Pub downstairs is fine; very decent martini; and the included breakfast buffet far surpassed most I’ve experienced recently in Spain and on Terceira. Homemade jams, molten chocolate to drizzle on your croissant, expressionless machine, lovely rolls, eggs over easy...it was really nice. The decor is all a tiny bit tired, and 80s-meets-deco, but it adds to the charm, I think. There IS an authentic Art Deco vibe in many areas. Checked out the rooftop pool and wow, it was neat, covered, but still outdoors and lit up in different colors at night. All in all, a wonderful experience.

We were here for a 3 day stay from Jan 23 to 26. The staff was very pleasant, especially the dining room staff at breakfast time. We were given a suite which consisted of a living room, a large bathroom and large bedroom. It was huge! Great selection at breakfast, cold cuts, cheese, fresh fruit, yogurt, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, beans, pancakes, waffles, juices. you won't go hungry.
We at supper at the restaurant on our first night. We weren't impressed and went elsewhere for the remainder of our time.
There's a lounge on the lower level with comfy seats and a cozy ambience. This time of year, it was very quiet. We took the time to upload our pics here drinking a few beer. It was lovely.
This location is very handy and walkable in the downtown area. It's a 10 minute walk from the "modern" mall. Everything was easy to find and the waterfront is a 2 minute walk from the hotel.
There is a small parking lot around the corner that the hotel has. I believe it was 6 euros/day. Well worth it. Otherwise street parking nearby is it around this area.
Overall, I really enjoy this hotel and especially enjoyed it's location.

My husband and I spent 12 days at The Hotel Talisman.
We were very happy with our choice to stay here. We found it a very good location to walk to most things. We were a 10 min walk down to the water and about a 15 min walk up to the mall, Parque Atlantico.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a lovely room that looked out on the park but had to move part way through our holiday as the people next to us were noisy and coughed constantly. The front staff were very good and moved us right away to a much quieter room.
The breakfast was very good with local fresh fruit everyday, pineapple, kiwi, melon. The fruit changes from day to day. They also have little bananas, waffles, melted chocolate, yogurt, cheese, jams, cereals, meats, eggs.and so much more. The only complaint I would have is the coffee could be better. The breakfast staff are amazing and are always there with anything you need.
We didn't try the restaurant for dinner but heard it was amazing. We did have a dessert there on our Hungry Whales foodie tour though and it was so good!
The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Both rooms had a little refrigerator.
We enjoyed the roof top pool with an amazing view of the city. We used the pool and it was lovely with a roof if it happened to rain! Pool towels can be signed out at the front desk.
It cost us 10 Euros to get a taxi to this hotel from the airport.
Highly recommend this Hotel and would come back.

This is our 5th time staying at this super hotel, the staff are so friendly and polite, the place is spotlessly clean and our room was a nice size which overlooked the garden, our bed was so comfortable. The only criticism is that you need to bring your own coffee for the room because they only provide 4 free tea bags. We opted for half board because the food is just amazing, every meal we had on this and previous visits has been cooked to perfection, delicious.. The location is very central, so if your planning a visit to this beautiful island you won’t go far wrong by having the Talisman as your base.

We stayed here March 2-5, 2020. The room was lovely and felt luxurious. We found the front reception staff to be a hit or miss situation, the ladies were very helpful with telling us locations of places and what places would be open as we were in Ponta Delgada over a weekend and it pretty much shuts down from 1:00 pm on Saturday to Monday morning. The breakfast was good and the restaurant staff were excellent. Would recommend staying here. Just one warning, as it is on a pedestrian street my husband dropped me off to check in and then followed behind a few minutes later. We were not ten minutes and went back to our rental care and had received a parking ticket. Was very frustrating. It costs 6 euro to park at the Hotel parking lot and is much cheaper to park at a meter.

It ticks all the boxes. We stayed there for 6 nights and were totally satisfied . The reception staff, the room and the restaurant were all great and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
They have their own carpark which costs a very reasonable 6 euros per night. We did not use the pool or gym as we were too busy visiting the incredible island.I would highly recommend this hotel for everything. It suited us perfectly . We would certainly choose to stay there again.

Very comfortable one week stay. Despite being somewhat old-fashioned, perhaps in need of renovation, this colonial-style hotel is impeccably clean, free WiFi with a good network throughout, very friendly staff and impeccable service, continental breakfasts are abundant, varied and of good quality. , the beds are comfortable and the rooms are good sized. The location is great, it is in the historic center, less than 5 minutes walk from several restaurants and the waterfront. Parking nearby is not easy and has to be paid, but the problem is the same throughout the city. Just pointing out the space to improve the soundproofing of the rooms. Without a doubt it is recommended!

We were very pleased with our visit, from a very late night check in through to a very early departure five days later.
Helpful reception staff (who got us a discount on Antigen Tests to get back into the UK). Immaculately maintained public areas both in the historic hotel and the newer section above the restuarant.
Lovely large clean room (226) with a balcony looking over the square, which was very quiet at the weekend and not really busy during the week. The garden in the photo is the nice public square outside the side of the hotel. All the usual facilities - fridge, kettle, TV with lots of channels, and enough plug sockets for devices!
Decent breakfast options with helpful serving staff in this Covid-world.
Small pool on the roof of the hotel, partially covered, made for a great relaxation and a little sun after a hard day's touristing!
5 mins from the town centre, a little more to the port, and up the hill (15 mins) is the Parque Atlantique mall and some lovely gardens. The Airport is a €10 taxi away, or 50 mins walk if you need the exercise up hill.
