Casa Maria de Deus is a paradise away from home; it's better than any hotel on Sao Miguel. Maria is a warm, affectionate host who will give visitors all the needed information to tour the island. I stayed a week and my only regret I wanted to stay more. I plan on saving my money to return next year for two weeks. The people on the island are warm and friendly. The weather was absolutely beautiful on some days. I even went to the beach in September. Sao Miguel is God's heaven on earth and Casa Maria de Deus Is the perfect bed And breakfast. See you next year

I cannot give away all the secrets because it would ruin your experience. Go and stay as long as possible. I drove the gorgeous roads all over the island opting not to relocate. It was the best decision as Maria's B&B was everything I needed and more. She is a wealth of information and loves to share her knowledge of the island. She is gifted humorous story teller and passionate about her guests. Relax, chat over breakfast, swim at the beautiful sandy beach 30 minutes by car in Ribiera Quente. So many walks right from her B&B. If you like to hike then walk thru the quaint villages and you will get your heart rate up as the roads can be steep. Maria's helper, Dina, is a gem as well. They put out a wonderful truly homemade breakfast (jams made from fruit trees in the yard etc) and keep the place immaculate. I cannot say enough about Maria, Dina and the B&B. It will forever be in my heart. It was my first stay at Casa Maria de Deus but it won't be my last.

We felt at home from the moment we arrived. Marie gave us a tour and many details about the guest house and surrounding area. Breakfasts were great and generous, and we also enjoyed the desert and hot tea at night, and she packed lunches for our day trips too. We truly felt like family visiting for a few days. The accommodations were very comfortable and very clean.

This was my first visit to Sao Miguel and I decided to stay at Casa Maria De Deus based on the rave reviews on TripAdvisor. I was not disappointed. I was warmly welcomed by the gregarious owner Maria and served breakfast upon my arrival. That was the first of many delicious breakfasts at Casa Maria. Breakfast consisted of pancakes served with mouthwatering home-made jams(blackberry, fig, strawberry, etc), frittata, home-made bread, pastries, home-made yoghurt, and was a treat to look forward to every morning. Oh, and the cheese and fresh fruit! There was always plenty of leftovers for lunch or to take with you on a day trip. Maria's backyard is lush and filled with all sorts of fruit trees, and the views from there are breathtaking! In addition to Maria, there is her helper Dina who is a most gracious and lovely person. Together, they made my stay at Casa Maria an unforgettable experience. If you are a nature enthusiast, Sao Miguel is the place for you. I highly recommend Casa Maria if you happen to be staying in Povoacao.
