Great hotel, located on the shore of the ocean (15 km from the capital of the island, 2 km from the center of Caloura)
All rooms facing the ocean, the left wing of the hotel by the pool, the right one quieter, with a beautiful view. It is worth having a room on the first or second floor.
Clean renovated rooms, small fridge, kettle etc. cleaned daily.
The hotel is definitely for those who value peace and quiet, a good base for exploring the islands.
Breakfast is correct (not enough local fruit), we did not use the buffet in the restaurant.
Dishes served in the bar, snacks and dinners - great and delicious, so are the drinks and the Azorian white wine. A very large number of dishes based on local ingredients.
The staff was very nice and helpful.
At the pool it was always quiet and nice (depth 1.5 - 3.4 m), few people, always free sunbeds and umbrellas.
Night concerts of Calonetrix Borealis (local birds) provide unforgettable impressions :)
In fact, there was nothing we disliked.
We highly recommend the hotel to people who want to relax in peace and quiet, enjoy the unique beauty of the island and explore it.

The hotel is situated in the most amazing location, front row view of the Atlantic ocean. All rooms have ocean view, though the rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor have the very best view. The rooms are spacious and clean, but the hotel does not provide much toiletries, so bring your own shampoo etc. In the room you have a water boiler and some tea and instant coffee, but no Nespresso like machine. The breakfast is served buffet style and the quality is fine, but there is not very much choice and the price is high. Same as with the diner, there are better and cheaper options to be found in the excellent restaurants (try Bar Caloura for amazing fresh seafood dishes!). Overall I would book this hotel again, as the location just does not get any better then this. But since it is a little remote, a rental car is a must. Also to get to the nearby village, beware, the road is very steep to walk!

The Caloura Hotel Resort is located in the southern center of the Azores island of São Miguel, directly on a steep stretch of coastline with a fantastic view of the sea.
The well-kept hotel complex has 80 rooms and suites, all with sea views. The double rooms have a double bed, a chaise lounge, a desk and a flat-screen TV. A furnished terrace and a bathroom with single washbasin, shower/bathtub combination and toilet complete the facilities.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served buffet style in the hotel restaurant Barrocas do Mar. The local, rather hearty, selection of dishes is of good quality. The service is very friendly and helpful.
The very clean outdoor pool with a length of 50 meters is perfect for swimming laps and is also used for diving courses due to its depth of 3.5 meters.
Overall, the Caloura Hotel is a good choice for exploring the main island of the Azores due to its location and offers enough peace and quiet to relax between sightseeing.

We had a great time at Caloura Resort. We could not check in until after 12pm because of the flight - was no problem at all! All the hotel staff are very attentive and friendly. The decor of the hotel is great and we liked the room. The view of the bay from the balcony is spectacular. Breakfast was good, but a bit expensive for 18€/person. Tip: Do not book breakfast in addition. You can decide every day if you want to go for breakfast and then add the bill to the room bill. We treated ourselves to breakfast twice. In the evening, there is a buffet for 28€/person (less suitable for vegetarians) or you can order a la carte. You definitely need a rental car to explore the island, but there is plenty of free parking in front of the hotel. I can only recommend the hotel!

We loved this hotel. Very clean and comfortable. Staff was great. View from the balcony was magnificent. The reception area had a refillable water machine which was very useful. The only thing we did not get was a breakfast included in our package. We tried it one morning and did not find it was worth the price.

Beautiful and clean pool, beautiful view of the ocean, and astounding landscaping. The location is secluded and quiet. We greatly enjoyed walking out onto the cliffs for a view of the stars.
However, the positives stop there.
This is simply not a four star hotel. First, the customer service is non existent. There is no one to help you with your bags, show you to your room, or otherwise answer questions. There was no poolside service, and it took over an hour to have a 15 euro sandwich made for lunch. The breakfast was also severely understaffed and several food options were empty despite being 19 euro per person.
The room is overly simple with many of the missing features one would expect from a four star resort. No mini bar, all-in-one shampoo/bodywash/handsoap, and one pool towel that could not be exchanged. Popcorn ceilings and walls, only instant coffee in the room, and water damage in the ceiling rounded out the top complaints about our room.
There’s also a significant amount of nickel and diming. 10 euro to use the sauna… Only the *contents* of the water bottle in the room are free… After staying at two other properties on the island, this one was very clearly falling short.

We stayed one week in the middle of October slightly outside the main season in this amazing hotel. From the poolside photos it may look like any other mass tourism container but the reality could not be farther from it. The location on top of a south-turned bluff overlooking the Atlantic is preciously isolated and driving through the small villagge Agua de Pau on small, winding roads to reach the hotel already puts you in holiday mood until you reach this "End of the World".
The rooms are spacious, functional and etsthetique and the level of cleaniness and daily housekeeping impeccable. All rooms enjoy sea view and the design of the building allows absolute privacy on the large balcony.
The common areas are comfortable, beautiful and well kept as is the delicious swimming pool. A short walk down through an equaly well kept exotic garden to the dramatic cliffs below the hotel offer great views over the bay.
The bar and restaurant also offer stunning views over the steep cliffs above the bay. The breakfast at 19 € and buffet dinner at 30 € serve decent but rather standard food and cannot compete with other restaurants in Agua de Pau 5 mins drive away.
People at the reception and other staff af kind, helpful and qualified.
But more than anything - this is the right place to enjoy peace, nature, the sound of the massive waves of the Atlantic and a comfortable life. We will without any doubt stay here again when we visit Sao Miguel next time.

The hotel is truly lovely with gorgeous grounds and amazing views. But beware! The listing show "free breakfast". Yes, it is free as long as you pay for it. That is we booked three nights but then were told that breakfast was included. When we showed the desk clerk he said that was not up to him but responsibility lay with booking service. Again we shoed this website that specified terms but that appeared not to faze him. He said he would check on it and call us in our room. We check back a few hours later and he had gone off shift with no call. We asked again and got the same reply.
This is a real shame as we paid for breakfast but had to pay twice they refused service otherwise, For such a nice property they missed the notion of customer service. Check it out directly above and will see what I mean.

While it is hard to escape the "resort" vibe entirely, this is a lovely hotel, with simply styled rooms many of which look south over the sparkling mid-Atlantic. It is relatively small scale, with a good pool and lush gardens. Tracks between high lava walls lead down to the rocky coast, with views out over the surging ocean. The rooms are large and and very clean, with good bathrooms. The hotel has a restaurant, but we didn't use it as it seemed to be entirely buffet-based, However, it is not hard to walk into the villages of Agua de Pau or Caloura, where there are several very good options for food. There is also a small bar just down the hill where you can enjoy a sundowner on the clifftop. At night, walking back, you will hear the bizarre call of the Cory's shearwaters which make the island their home.

The first point goes to the breathtaking location. Everything is wellkept, the gardens around, the rooms are very confortable everyone with balcony with seaview. Soft but beautifull decoration. Staff is very pleasant.
The only thing i missed were some aspects of breakfast: a lack of variety of fruits and cheese (Azores has a strong agriculture and cheese industry). Also breads could vary a bit more.
But it was a lovely 4 night stay.
Very positive point: bottle of delicious water in room that can be refiiled at the lobby.
Superb swimming pool

Hello, Thank you for your contact. Regarding your question, the beach next to our Hotel it's about 5 m walking but, after you get there, there's some steep steps.
However, all around the island you have beautifull beaches and one just 5 m by car. We hope to hear from you :)
Kind Regards!
