We stayed in this hotel for a week in the middle of May, it was very quiet. The rooms we got we're quite big, we stayed in a two bedroom apartment for 3 adults and two children. There was two balconies one of which had an outdoor table and chairs and a clothes horse.
The pool was very quiet every day, we got to pick whichever sun loungers we wanted most days and mostly had the pool to ourselves.
The restaurant was not open for the first half of our holiday, however on our first morning when we realized this the reception staff explained to us that it would be open a few days later but we could order breakfast to be delivered to our room, we done this once then cooked breakfast on the other days. We got a selection of croissants, ham, cheese, scrambled eggs, bacon and cereal aswell as coffee and pineapple juice. All was lovely.

The first couple days there was no cleaners in the apartment and so we asked when they would be up, the cleaners do the rooms every 3 days depending on when you arrive, we requested extra toilet roll as they would not be up untill the next day , the reception staff gave us some from the stock they had and then later that day the cleaners came and changed all the towels as well as coming again the following day.

There is a beach about 15 minutes walk from the hotel. Portimao and Alvor are about 40 minutes walk or 5 minutes in a taxi, which the hotel staff will happily call for you when you want. The taxis cost between 5 and 10 euro each way depending on how many people are in it and what time( seems to be more expensive at night time)

Overall we found the staff very helpful and friendly. Definitely value for money and would return again !

Positives: reception, cleaning and pool bar staff were all great and very helpful! The room was dsted but fine and was generally clean so no arguments there. The pool area is great for kids and adults alike and we spent most of our day there. The pool bar/restaurant is great with plenty of food to offer at great prices and the people running it were great! The hotel is located very close to to Do Vau beech which is brilliant beech with bars and restaurants just beside it. The hotel also has a bus stop very close by and the reception staff can order a taxi in minutes to Alvor or portimao which are only a €6 trip away.
Negatives: no kids club or even music around the pool area.
The sports bar and restaurant were terrible. I've stayed in this hotel before and they have updated this area to look at but it has regressed! The bar opens at 6pm and closes at 10pm. There is no sports in the sports bar or a pool table/music. One night the Portugal match was on. The service in the bar is not good. The bar man running it looked miserable and it was a gamble on what we ordered and what we got. The restaurant is even worse. On our first night we decided to eat there as we were tired and wanted to give it a try. Our starter was apple salad. This consisted of an apple cut up in leaves with balsamic dressing... I ordered the cod as they had no steak and it was a cod cake with onions, egg and potato I think. Nothing in description said this. We ate it. It came with more leaves. Desert was a chewy mouse or a milk lemon thing which was not nice. We asked for chips for the kids as they weren't hungry and the staff insisted on nuggets and chips (no kids menu) so I said yea fine. Kids had nuggets and chips each. They were offered a desert but they didn't like them. Two nuggets and chips came to €25! I was never given a menu! It was €90 for the meal and it was the most expensive and worst meal I had on my holiday. The staff could see I was unhappy but said they couldn't do anything, price was the price!!
Please do something with your restaurant and bar because your losing custom needlessly.

It's great value for money as a hotel but maybe not the main bar/restaurant.

We arrived at the hotel and met a lovely lady by the name of Audrey who checked us in and made us feel welcome. That process was smooth but didn’t understand why we had to give a €100 deposit but.. the room was spacious and ok for us. We had breakfast on a morning and all I would say is that the glasses or tea cups (also the cups in the room) could be a bit larger, and also there could be veggie sausages etc for those who don’t eat pork, after a few days I was tired of eating same thing every morning so didn’t have breakfast some days. I asked about the gym area and was told it’s been closed since the plandemic, but don’t understand why it’s still not open for use. The pool table could be free or even if charged I would say 50p or €1 as €2 is a bit too much for 1 game. Sometimes we wanted to go to the pool in the evening when we came back from a day out and it was a bit cooler but the pool area closed quiet early in the evening (around 7) and the showers could do with working so people could rinse off before entering or upon leaving the pool (maybe this why you could see all the dirt etc in the pool water). I was recommended to go to their other hotel by a member of staff, Turin presendente which is apparently much better.. The beach wasn’t too far away, there’s no local shop nearby so you have to walk to near the beach or into Portimao town. We took Ubers to have days out and go on excursions.

We enjoyed our holiday and these are just a few things I’ve written that could be changed or updated.

Myself and my family stayed here for 10 nights this month,3 children aged 4, 8 and 10. Firstly the positives, the room size and facilities were very good, 2 large bedrooms and bathrooms, spacious dining and living room area and a nicely kitted out kitchen area. The balcony was large and accessible from both bedrooms and kitchen. The pool area was great, kids pool a good size and the main pool very large, shallow end 1.2mtr which my kids could safely handle with a 2.2mtr deep end if needed. The poolside bar and cafe was pleasant and reasonable, staff were friendly. The hotel bar and restaurant looked nice but we didnt get to use it. We were situated close to a lovely beach and a short uber to Alvor which is bliss.
Unfortunately the service provided by the hotel was very poor. After 4 days we had to request toilet roll as the room was not serviced, we were told it would be cleaned after the 3rd night. The 4th day we were told it would be the following and this happened until we finally got the room cleaned after the 6th night, which was the only cleaning it got out of a proposed 4 cleans. In my opinion after the 2nd request we should have been the first room to be cleaned the following day. It took a heated exchange for this to happen which was far from ideal, and then the people we reported this to ignored us for the rest of the stay, possibly knowing we were still not getting a serviced room. So while the first part of the review is positive its overshadowed by the lack of cleaning and being forced to walk to reception to request toilet paper. We stayed here 5 years ago and was looking forward to staying agsin but this will unfortunately be the last time.

Just returned from a lovely stay. Was very nervous after reading some of the comments. To correct a few things written below, there is WiFi in rooms, pool is no colder than any other, no issue with inflatables in pool. The apartments are really spacious and spotlessly clean. All the utensils you need. The pools are really nice, all of the staff are very helpful. Pool bar had really nice food and snacks.

Yes, there are certain elements of the hotel that are slightly aged. The tiles around the pool are in need of replacing and not ideal for kids. We were there in late September so didn't expect much entertainment anyway but it does seem to be very quiet. It is a short taxi/uber ride into Alvor but Uber is great and it's a short walk to the beach.

All in all, having paid a lot more for very similar hotel setups previously, given the value for money , we could not fault Estrella do Vau. Thanks for an enjoyable time.

Our of 5 family had a lovely holiday at turim estrela do vau. The location is beautiful, not near town so quieter, close to a stunning beach, the Atlantic sea is cold, despite the weather being very hot. We did swim and it was very refreshing, abit too cold for one of our sons though. There is a bar, restaurant and snack bar at the hotel. We drank at the bar but didn't eat there, as mainly self catered. Highly recommend the sangria! The room is clean, comfortable, and big, we enjoyed our air conditioning as the weather was hot at 35°+. The appartement was a little tired in places and security wasn't the best, we had a ground floor appartement and locks on the windows didn't all work. However no issues, the balcony was fabulous and we loved eating on it and were able to enjoy the live music from bar. It was perfect for our family, as all quiet by midnight at the latest. No problems with noise in the appartment. I would recommend hiring a car as it is not near shops and town. However it is the perfect base to explore from with a massive free car parking area. We enjoyed going to zoo marine and had a fabulous boat trip to the caves. The hotel also has lovely swimming pools we enjoyed. The reception staff were wonderful, 5 star and our children have great memories being given sweets at reception. Our daughter made friends with Vivian who made her paper aeroplanes and she loved seeing her everytime we went through reception. We would recommend this hotel and we love to come back.

We were very happy with our stay here. We had a two-bedroom apartment, there were 5 of us, 3 adults and 2 children and there was plenty of room. We had a very spacious room with a huge balcony overlooking the pool. It was very clean and liked the extra shampoo etc that was refilled regularly. Towels changed regularly too but the room was not mopped or swept during cleaning. There was equipment to do it ourselves though.
Upon arrival we were asked to pay a deposit of 100, we were not informed of this beforehand so be aware, we got it back with no problem though.

The pool area is great, with loads of beds and space in early June, the only disappointment was no kids club or pool bar till June 15th which we had not been informed of either.

The staff everywhere were so helpful and any problems or questions were dealt with efficiently and with a smile.

The location is great, you can walk to a beach which has a few restaurants at it, a 3.50 taxi to Praia de Rocha or Alvor, and a 10 min walk to the Intermarche.

We have stayed in many places in the Algarve and I would definitely return here.

Do not stay here! Only book a room in this hotel if there aren't other options around. The reception staff is extremely unpleasant and not at all welcoming. For the price there are many other options nearby actually worth the price. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Algarve based on the poor quality for price and the unacceptable service.

My daughter and I visited this hotel at the end of May & we’re very pleased with the room size and balcony. Pool is cold water, which is not a problem considering the weather. We used it most days.

The adjoining snack bar and their friendly smiley team are great, the food is good value and size. Definite recommendations.

Hotel is clean and tidy, staff are all helpful & friendly.

Our one disappointment was breakfast in the restaurant. I will say there was plenty of food choice, but, for 15 euros and being rushed out as they wanted to close at 10.00 was a bit much, considering there were only two tables in use and it was a buffet!! Needless to say there are better options a short walk away or in Vau beach

Overall a good and pleasant experience

So had a family holiday in the Algarve staying at this hotel.
First impressions were good even though the building is dated.
We couldn't check in until 3pm which is normal but at 3pm we were told it would be another hour for us to wait..
We did try and get a freebie out of things, a drink or something but it didn't work 😁.
They then found a suitable room so things were good.
The rooms have a kitchen in, so basically an apartment type room.
The rooms are basic but clean and really comfy beds. They also have balconies you can sit on.
So after two nights we had to ask to be moved because of the consistent noise from the rooms above late into the night.
The staff moved us with no issues at all which was great because paying a lot of money for a holiday and being kept up most of the night is not what anyone wants.
The second room was so much better, UNTIL we got new neighbours who were on the lash until 3am . It only took me banging on their door to shut them up .
The other annoying thing about the hotel is they insist on playing crap music by the pool all afternoon..
So if you want to be guaranteed a quite family holiday this might not be the place.
The food is rubbish also with buffet style eating at 25 euros a head for dinner is expensive.
The staff are fantastic though..
Hope this helps you with your decision.
