Good Bit: The staff were so friendly nice and helpful i almost feel guilty leaving a bad review but really the negative comments should be with love holidays as the information is very incorrect point blank mis-leading. as they advertise a gym, sauna, massage and steam bath NONE of which EXIST...there is no refurbishment of sauna/turkish baths either I showed the receptionist he was quite surprised of their write up/advertisement....
The Hot Plate at breakfast was broken but they still put out hot food which was stone cold, when We told the only waiter in the room he acted surprised but I think this has for a while and not been fixed as everyday they put out the same stone cold food and guess what this i believe is the only hotel in the world where the kitchen does not have a microwave!!! and yes i did ask!! so coissants and cheese it was everyday not surprised its a free breakfast
The beach is roughly 12euros return by taxi and as there is no pool at the hotel we found we were visiting the beach Daily.
The Hotel is situated on a side street and is close to the water, great pop up al fresco bar close by and plenty of restaurants nearby.

This hotel is located in the city center which makes it really easy to go everywhere. The boulevard called “zona ribeirinha” is around the corner, só in the evening it’s nice to go for an ice cream there! Unfortunately I could check in on time because the room wasn’t clear yet, but the staff friendly apologized for that! The hotel is clean and has a standard interior. In high season the prizes are a bit higher, but staying here in low season should be perfect. Ps. The view from the breakfast is AMAZING!

I stayed for a night at another hotel in Portimao for €30 and it was ok other than the staff were quite poor/badly trained. The hotel Globo I stumbled across by accident whilst walking near the river and noticing their fluresant sign high up towards the town by the restaurant and fountain. I had a look in and asked the price, €35 for a single room. The reception is very smart so I returned the next day, I was impressed further by the receptionist who answered all my questions with solid English. The room is quite small but not tiny and very functional as is the bathroom but exceptionally clean, they do need better showing facilities though as it was a little old style. The bed was quite comfortable and air conditioning, tv are there to aid your comfort. There is a free gym, sauna and Turkish bath which I did not visit and a bar that I missed too. Noise levels from guests were audible from beneath but only just. The smell issue I read about did exist on 3rd floor, hard to identify and after ten minutes I stopped noticing it. Overall for €35 it a real treat and the staff were exceptional, there is a young woman with long dark hair and a perfect smile who works at reception who stole my heart by just smiling at me as I entered after a day out. Sadly I only saw her for 10 seconds but like the hotel it left me with a great feeling inside.

My girlfriend and I (mid 20s) have just returned from a week long stay at hotel globo. We booked last minute and after reading the reviews on this site we were very worried that the hotel was going to be terrible. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived, the staff were all friendly, the room was clean, it was much better than expected. Some people wrote about a bad smell in the area, this is the smell of the sea! The air conditioning wasn't amazing but it worked fine and if left on when you are out the room is lovely and cool by the time you get back. It's close to shops and the river where there is a market. The walk to the beach is slightly far but only a 15/20 min walk or 5 mins in a taxi which costs about 5 euro. All in all the hotel was perfect for what we wanted, it's not The Ritz but for a place to sleep and chill out for siesta it's perfect. If this hotel "ruined your holiday" as some have stated, you must be an awful snob!

We have just got back from staying at this Hotel after spending 15 nights unfortunatley found the stay only bearable after finding a nice beach about 15 min bus ride away.Food was just about suitable if it was half board but beware if full board what food is left from lunchtime is served up again at evening meal. All staff we came into contact with were really very helpful.I would question the 3* rating though can,t for the life of me see how this is possible as hardly any facilities so if the stay is long one you will spend more time out of the hotel than in even if its raining.I don,t normally berate a hotel but feel I need to for this one so beware you have been warned.I did look at previous ratings before booking but I can,t for the life of me see how they could be talking about the same hotal.

I spent a week at the Hotel Globo and the best thing about it was the excellent staff many of them having worked there for many years, they looked after us superbly nothing was too much trouble and always had a smile. The Hotel it's self has undergone refurbishment bringing it up to date with modern look very clean. I too noticed the smell when in the corridors but just one of those things and soon un-noticed. Breakfast was buffet style and with a good selection not the best ever but all the bases are covered. Dinner in the restaurant, good potions sizes, always tasty would recommend any of the fish dishes. Great views from the Bar but if you like a balcony room with a view you wont find it here. Would stay again.

The only good thing about this hotel is its clean, the all inclusive package I a joke to say the least, I've just been charged 18 euro for water I've had out of the 2 hours a day bar limit that is given to a.i!!!! My room was on the 5th floor, again clean but no chance of sleep between 7am and 11pm as I was under the restaurant which is on 6th floor. The food is disgusting to say the least, selection is awful and if you have kids then your in for an expensive time as you will be eating out lots! WiFi only works in lobby bar and restaurant and you have to constantly sign in. I have stayed all over the world and I have to say this hotel is the worst I've stayed in, if there had been another hotel close by id have moved!

We booked a suite as we like some space. Hotel clean, food good, but star removed as the hotel charges for wifi, and these days it seems a bit penny pinching. On the day of departure we had to leave before breakfast was served. No booking alternative to B+B was available, and no reduction offered, or effort made to offer an early alternative. Tap water is horrible, but that is not the hotel's fault, probably general for Portimao.

Delayed review - Me and my partner stayed at the Hotel Globo in September 2011. After reading other reviews on this website we were unsure what to expect. Lucky for us it was perfection.
The rooms were clean, well kept, nicely decorated and with air conditioning. They were cleaned daily. The staff had great local knowledge but on occasion a few staff had limited English (expected as we were on holiday).
The food was brilliant and in a 10 night stay we didn't have the same meal once.
The hotel is approximatley 20 minute walk to the nearest beach but what a beautiful walk (bus service runs to beach).
Me and my partner are considering coming back this year.
The only critism is the hotel doesn't have a pool but with perfect weather we prefered the beach so didn't effect the rating of the hotel.
