Monchique Resort & Spa offers an experience that garners mixed feelings among guests when it comes to value, with some finding the restaurants and spa overpriced, yet others appreciate the reasonable options and inclusive activities. The staff's friendliness and helpfulness are frequently lauded, although a few guests have faced service hiccups. Rooms are generally celebrated for their spaciousness and comfort, but critiques surface regarding cleanliness and occasionally outdated decor. The hotel's cleanliness overall receives praise, but there is room for improvement in maintenance. While the atmosphere is occasionally deemed lackluster, the luxurious amenities, including the pools and breakfast options, are often highlighted positively.

Very enjoyable resort, pleasant and well situated. Reception and employee attention is very user friendly. Rooms of adequate size and well appointed. Breakfast is excellent. If in the area, this resort will be on our list. Set in a quiet area and with good views of the valleys. Walking distance to the Montchique thermal spa. If in the area again, this hotel will be our only choice.

Nice experience. Nice, clean rooms. We spent one night there. The food wasn’t fantastic and was expensive for what it was. Hotel is a bit of a maze. Staff were friendly. Kids used the indoor pool. Nice environment. But overall a good night away.

This place is amazing!!! We loved every minute of our stay. We had a room with a view of the mountians, with a large balcony. The suite was clean and very spacious. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of food. I would definitely recomend this place.

I booked the room with Mountain View and balcony. The room with its kitchenette and sitting room was a great size and very comfortable. The bed was huge at 2mx2m and was comfortable. The room was cleaned and restocked daily. Breakfast was very good with a variety hot and cold choices. The restaurant offers ‘ A la carte’ as well as a snack menu for those not very hungry. My wife had a massage and a facial in the Spa and was very impressed with the service. The hotel and restaurant staff were very attentive, pleasant and polite. There is a covered garage with a high ceiling plus outside parking. One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at, pity it closes for the winter, I would have liked to go again.

A big hotel with long corridors, it takes a bit to get your bearings sometimes the lighting was poor especially down the staircase if used at night. Now for the good points great helpful staff, also plenty of parking below the hotel to use, our room was huge with plenty of space with great bathrooms and cooking facilities so very good from us. The bar area was spacious and popular a nice place to finish of the day, also does snacks. Breakfast was fresh with plenty of choice top marks for that. My wife used the gym and free classes Pilates and yoga available and we both did the hour walking tour led by a staff member all very good. We had poorish weather most of our four days and it was to chilly to use outdoor pool facilities but it didn’t stop our enjoyment of the hotel or area. It’s definitely worth driving to Alferce to the new long wooden walkway and bridge built into the two hills it’s great, or a wander around Monchique village. Also a very short walk up the road is a very reasonably priced restaurant with good food to sample.

This is not a five star hotel in any way. The only saving grace is the fantastic service offered by some staff. They truly do their best to make the experience great but are limited by a dated hotel with what appears to be poor management and hospitality practice. The hotel is set in the beautiful monchique mountains and looks great from the outside. Check in what seamless, although we were informed that the majority of the hotel was not operating. Only one restaurant was open and few activities running as it apparently closes at the end of November. Why was this information not shared? To lure guests in for a low quality experience? The hallways were barren and empty as the hotel clearly had little occupancy. When we arrived to our room after an extremely confusing trek there through multiple elevator banks we were at first pleasently surprised. It looked nice, until we opened the window and realized we were given a great view of another building with no mountain in sight. We still wonder why we were given such a terrible view in a near empty hotel. They missed the chance to blow us away and possibly end up with life long customers there. Back to the room - it looked nice, at first glance. Then we tried the bed and it felt like laying down on a rock covered in very rough and uncomfortable sheets. Extremely uncomfortable. As we explored more we realized how scratched, date, damaged or just unclean many of the surfaces in the room were. A huge room that looks nice, but truly wasn't. We did the spa circuit and it was good overall although had issues of it's own . The ice cave smelt like sewage and some of the features were hardly working. Though again the staff were very pleasant and did their best with what they were working with. We left the resort for the evening as there was little to do and not a person in sight. The restaurant across the road was fantastic. Upon return we again found an eerie, empty hotel and went to sleep on our stone slab for the evening. The sleep was difficult but we made it to the morning. We were greeted at the breakfast buffet by yet another great staff member who did make us feel very welcome. The food was very disappointing unfortunately. In summary this resort is best described as an incomplete experience. They seem to have tried to setup a five star experience but fall short in everything but their staff. It's extremely uncomfortable and clearly not managed well for customer retention. Unlikely to return.

Overal good but there where quite some thing that could improve. The bed was terrible. After nights 2 our back was completely broken. You could really feel that we where at the end of the season. The bar staff were nice and friendly but lacked some character and liveliness. In our 5 night stay the bar was 2 days completely closed without any notice or alternative offer. On the way to discover the inside (family) pool i came into a hallway with a huge cockroach walking by. ( We al know if there is 1 cockroach there a plenty unfortunately ) When I arrived at the pool, I naturally wanted to go for a swim. Halfway up the stairs I was shocked to see a frog chilling at the edge of the pool. After the cockroach and mr. frog I had enough of the swimming pool unfortunately. For 25 euros as a hotel guest you can use the spa for 2 hours. This is very expensive for a spa. (I am an experienced spa visitor and come from the Netherlands, which is seen as an expensive country by many. You can visit an average good spa with infusions etc. for a whole day for a maximum of €30.00) When you arrive at the spa, it looks good at first glance, small but nice, so to speak. Unfortunately, we saw a large dust nest in the filter at the swimming pool. A door to the electricity was open (or was broken) and if you looked around a little further you saw some mold here and there on the ceiling, side beams and outside where a waterfall flows into an outdoor swimming pool. The gentleman working at the spa was super friendly and one of the few who went the extra mile to make you feel welcome. Absolutely no blame for him! Overal is was a nice stay but missed some things.

It is a really great place to stay with amazingly good breakfasts. However, for vegetarians, veggie sausages would be a delightful addition! AIso it would be very good if you had a few more things in the kitchen....washing up sponge, washing up liquid, tea towel, scissors...otherwise perfect! We have stayed there quite a few times now.

The resort aims at top notch luxury, but is a little too "over the top". With its three buildings and complex floor distribution, it has an impersonal feeling to it. Our room was truly a huge two-bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms. Swimming in the covered pool was a very nice experience. Breakfast is extremely abundant and tasty. Mushrooms were absolutely delicious, among other delicacies. Location is favorable, but we found Monchique to be overrated despite some impressive views from the mountains (miradouro da Foia, miradouro de Picota).
