Truly, one of the most relaxing stays we’ve ever had. From the cleaners to the reception, bar and spa staff, everyone was lovely and attentive, save for the waiter in the pizzeria, who was a bit of a pain and was clearly focused on profit and not service. The cocktail barman in the Mezzanine bar with the eat piercings and tattoos was particularly affable and pleasant. The rooms are well-equipped and tastefully decorated. Everything had been well thought out in terms of design, in order to integrate with nature - a little too well as I was stung whilst sunbathing outside our room by a wasp that came from the honeysuckle in the trellis! One small criticism is the hardness of the bed - we’re in our 30s and after 3 nights we both felt it and I developed a sore hip but the reception staff did arrange for a topper, which helped a little for the remainder of our stay. I would maybe suggest investing in softer beds given the importance of sleep when trying to relax and unwind. The spa was fantastic and had a lot to offer - from aromatherapy rooms and steam rooms with adjustable scents to foot jacuzzis and scented showers. The Espa treatments (facials and massages) were fantastic and my own masseuse, Cornelia, was very knowledgeable. The bar stocked the usual drinks and we were delighted to see Fever Tree tonic but the selection of premium gins was quite poor. The cocktails didn’t seem very strong and were quite pricey. The main bar dinner menu had a lot of fish on it and the selection of chicken dishes wasn’t great and in-fact, the lunch menu was much better. The pizzeria was fantastic but it wasn’t open 7 days per week and as mentioned above, its waiter ruined it for us. The hotel is integrated into a mountain in beautiful surroundings. Caldas de Monchique is a 10-minute walk away and really shows off the picturesque nature of this holiday and we tried the thermal baths there. The hotel has a taxi partnership for trips to neighbouring Monchique (€8 each way). For trips to Portimao, the bus is across the road from the entrance to the hotel (€4.35 single) and Ubers back from Auchan in Portimao are about €15, which is cheap for a half hour journey! All-in-all we had a fantastic holiday, it wasn’t overrun although we came for the last week of June, just before the Summer holiday rush and we will definitely return in the future.…
I have visited this hotel on two previous occasions and everything was excellent - which is why I returned. However, this time there were many issues with the restaurant facilities which was really disappointing. Theses were two fold. Firstly that the restaurant itself was not open due to ‘staff shortages’, and the only option to me was the buffet. This especially was disappointing as the food for the evening meal was of very low quality and also had to be eaten in the same location as the breakfast. This felt very much like a canteen with absolutely no atmosphere and not pleasant at all. They could have at least enabled people to eat at the restaurant tables, which would have been a little better. I hope this is temporary, but I would not return if the only option to me was the buffet. In every other way the hotel is excellent with fabulous rooms, excellent spa facilities, great pool area and pool bar, and very efficient, helpful and friendly staff. It’s a shame the food and restaurant facilities badly let it down this time.…
The hotel is about 5 miles from Monchique, there is a bus `every 2 hours or so but a Taxi is a better bet. not a great deal of choice for vegetarians on the evening menu but the rooms have refrigerators so you can buy store and warm up your own food if required.. Breakfast is very good.
Spent 5 nights here. Loved every moment. The setting is stunning, the staff absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much bother for any of them: they went above and beyond to ensure we had an extra special stay. The breakfast choices were amongst the best we have ever had and we have travelled extensively. Eating breakfast on the terrace in the morning was a memory we will cherish. We didn’t try the evening meals in the restaurant but we did visit the pizzeria and the pizzas were delicious. The resort is remote however for walkers like us, looking for a peaceful and relaxing break, it was perfect. The pool area is meticulous and our hotel suite was wonderful, with two bathrooms and a lovely kitchen area if you wished to cook for yourself. There is also a lovely restaurant facing the resort which we recommend if you fancy a change and some lovely restaurants in Monchique as well. We will be back.…
Too expensive restaurants for the quality offered. Specially the buffet dinner: very very expensive for regular meals and beverage. Great staff though: all very kind and helpful. Good accommodations and infra.
The hotel is located right in the heart of Monchique mountain, which provides great panoramic views and a sense of rest and peace that is only disturbed by the wind - unsure if it was just bad luck, the wind made it impossible to be on the outside after 5.30pm and it was quite noisy during the night. The staff is amazingly friendly and is always willing to help. The hotel sseems to be adjusting to this new covid-era rules perfectly, as new regulations are clear and easy to follow. I felf safe all the time. The SPA is one of the best I visited in Portugal, it is extremely clean and in great conditions. The massage I had was also wonderful. Being a family hotel, children are all over so if you're expecting a super calm and relaxing experience by the pool, don't be fooled - it won't happen. Also, guests tend to occupy all the by the pool chairs, leave their towels behind to reserve their place and.. leave. Which results in zero place to sit around the pool.…
Monchique Resort & Spa is one of those places where you feel you want to come back. The team really goes the extra mile to make you feel welcomed. The room is amazing - fresh clothes, really makes you feel home and relaxed. I loved my dinners at the balcony on my bathrobe. The Spa really provides you the extra you need o relax and all the outdoor really makes you feel one with nature. Ohhh and the breakfast - absolutely YAMMY!!!! Next time I promise I will go to the gym Also to those with kids is amazing - nice areas for them, nice activities. A family and friendly hospitality all around. The fact that you receive pets for me its a plus plus. When we arrived having a bed for her and the bools for water and food was an amazing touch. Welcome all around for every single one in the family …
We visited here for a week of sun at the start of June 2022. We were also the very first people on a new All inclusive option. We had never gone All inclusive before as I have always been a bit wary of paying up front for sub standard food etc. The room was very good and Nearly excellent. Just a few small things would improve it a great deal. The food was very good and Nearly excellent. Just a few small things that could make it really excellent. The hotel generally was Nearly excellent. Just a few things could make it really excellent. The one thing that we loved were the excellent staff. These were mainly young and inexperienced. Every single one were helpful and friendly and with a bit more experience will be fantastic. There were a few things that were not quite right but lots of things here were very good. When going back again to the Algarve we will certainly look to book here again. Thanks.…
The hotel is in an excellent location and the reception area and restaurants are very modern and clean. Unfortunately some of the other communal areas and swimming pools are in need of some TLC. The room we stayed in was very spacious and clean, but the beds were quite hard and uncomfortable. Another thing we found a little annoying is that the pizzeria and some of the bars were not open as it was classed as out of season (end of May). Overall I would recommend the hotel for other families looking to stay in the area, but don't expect 5 star quality.
An amazing hotel in an incredible location. The facilities, particularly the spa, are superb and the staff make the whole stay very special. The surrounding countryside is wonderful for walking and there are number of lovely villages and restaurants within walking or short cab distance. A superb place that doesn't really feel like any other hotel we'd been to.
