Everything here is amazing, the rooms are really clean and comfortable and the location is perfect, calm and quiet but if you walk for 1 minute you’re at the beach. But the main star in Jho’la is the owner Francisco, he’s such a nice host and he cooks the most tasty, perfect and genuine portuguese confort food you can eat in Algarve. During my 2 weeks stay in Algarve the best meal that I had were the squids with sweet potato that Francisco cooked and a chocolate mousse that was the best that I EVER had, what an incredible experience!
I went May 2019 for 6 Nights to Jho'La Surf Camp. I had a fabulous time. Jho'La Surf Camp was not busy. So we had that beautiful house with our host Francisco for ourselves. He is a very nice guy. I felt immediately at home. You get a nice breakfast and a very delicious dinner cooked by Francisco. And already his cooking skills makes the staying worth. So good!!! Luz is a small beautiful town with a nice beach. Its just nice to wander around the old town and enjoy the beauty of Algarve architecture. I had an amazing time and highly recommend it
For the third year i spent 8 days in Jho´la Surf Camp. The local is simply amazing, in a calm spot in Luz town, very close to the beach. The host (Francisco) is a nice guy always happy to help you, and a great traditional portuguese food cooker. Is is a bit addict about going to surf, but you know, we all are. I'm sure you will enjoy it like i do.
Jho’la Surf Camp is one of the most hospitable, eco-conscious, and chill places we had ever stayed. Upon arrival, Francisco helped us feel right at home. He explained the whole house to us and showed us our room, as well as some things to do around town (supermarkets, ice cream, etc.) . The daily schedules were organized but not cramped or hectic, as we booked the surf and stay package. 8:30 breakfast, pickup around 9-10 depending on surf destination (surf lessons provided by Future Surf School 5/5 stars from us), and return back to the camp late afternoon for a well deserved beer in the hammocks, yoga, or walking around the village. Francisco makes a pack lunch normally consisting of a tasty sandwich and piece of fruit for those taking the surf classes, which helps to keep your day running smooth. A cool part of Jho’la was the focus on minimal impact to the environment as possible. Proper recycling and compost bins were provided. They even provide filtered water and reusable bottles for guests for their stay. Which is a must when you are surfing in the sun, heat and salt all day. Dinner usually started around 8:30. You don’t want to miss dinner at Jho’la! Francisco cooks almost every night. The two nights he wasn’t available he gave us recommendations for great restaurants in town. Each dinner seemed to be a special recipe cooked with some of the finest olive oil in Portugal (Francisco’s family operates an olive farm and even has oil available for purchase at the camp). After dinner was usually spent sipping Portuguese wine on the terrace trading stories with him, the other guests, and Anne and Joseph who also help Francisco with the camp. Overall great experience. Jho’la Surf Camp is a truly special place in the Algarve. HUGE thanks to Francisco, Anne, and Joseph for the hospitality and making us feel welcome. We can’t wait to return! - Estelle and Mack…
Jho'la surf camp was a summer highlight for me. It is a beautiful Portuguese house located in a picturesque village Luz. The house is cozy and quite big. Francisco is a great host and chef. We had a delicious dinner and a tasty sandwich for lunch everyday. The atmosphere in the camp was very relaxed; inspiring to chill and read a book or to do something creative like drawing. If you like playing music you will find multiple instruments to choose from. The people I met in the camp were friendly and fun to spend time with. I felt right at home. Also, my birthday celebration was pretty damn great! As to the surfing, I think I was learning how to surf with the best teachers in the area. Every morning they would pick me and my friends up to take us to some nice beach with surfible for beginners waves. It was unforgettable!…
