We had two junior suites, the rooms were large, well decorated and with a large balcony with side sea view. Negative were unfortunately the beds, they had a mattress protector made of plastic, the bed sheet slipped unpleasantly on it and it always crackled. Not really pleasant to sleep on!
The hotel itself is not very tastefully decorated, rather cool, little attention to detail. Breakfast is mass processing, sometimes the staff couldn't keep up with filling up the buffet. The tables are much too tight and since you really have to get up for everything (drinks can only be fetched in cups, no pots for tea or coffee), you have to squeeze through the tables again and again towards the buffet. The choice could be wider, but the food was fine. Luckily we had booked without dinner, in Lagos and surroundings there are many good restaurants. The bar has the charm of a station hall, even if there are only a few people inside, it is incredibly noisy.
The pool area around the hotel is nicely done and well maintained. It is worth leaving the complex through the door and walking across the road and the train line to the beautiful beach. Via jetties you can easily walk in both directions behind the beach. There are always beach restaurants and sunbeds/umbrellas for rent. We were still able to bathe at the end of September, the water was cold, but afterwards you could warm up well in the sun.
The hotel staff were friendly, our roommate Isabel was very nice and always cleaned very clean, thank you!

It’s a nice looking hotel and is very clean, the pool is nice and very large. We always found beds
The room was big and again clean, we had a ground floor suite with separate bedroom for the adults

Location is not great with young children, although close to the beach, the walk into Lagos is too far with small kids. You have to get taxis ordered by reception and these can either be 5 mins or 30 mins-v unreliable especially if you have dinner booked.
Beach at the rear though is lovely and there is a nice beach bar with good food/sangria.

Pool bar at hotel is tiny! There is only one bar serving 100s of guests food and drink, long queues
Weirdly no bar inside is open during the day
Drinks expensive
Pizza place does good pizza though

Breakfast in the morning was very good

Kids activities not great during the day, kids disco was fun but started too late maybe 9?

Reception staff not very professional, some nice but some unhelpful

All in all it was ok but we wouldn’t stay again

The facilities are very good, they say they have a spa but it really is a small pool closed for the use they give (there are people who are dedicated to long or play with children).
Very close to the beach which is very nice.
The food is buffet and very repetitive and always the same (some cooking is missed, with how good Portuguese cuisine is).
The service is the worst, especially for being a 4-star hotel.
The rooms finish cleaning them around 5 in the afternoon, if you are at the end because you have to wait for the room to be made and the dining room is worse.
They hardly attend to you if you need anything, even if you speak to them in Portuguese that we asked for special milk in Portuguese and they told you that they did not speak the language.
We went twice to the bar and the soft drinks are gun and the second time we went we started to wait for a waitress and half left us to talk to another customer on the other end of the bar.

The location of the hotel was perfect for our planned excursions and there was always ample parking available. The shop in the hotel was super, so I got the best postcards on our trip.

The rest unfortunately could not convince us and we will not visit another hotel in this hotel chain.

Room service was not satisfactory: Toilet paper and soap were not replenished; towels we got partly already used; 2x we had to shower cold.

I was also very disappointed with the restaurant. We had only booked with breakfast and in most hotels where we have stayed so far I know it so that from the offer is alternated e.g. other fruit, sausage or cake/sweet.

We had a 7 day stay and there was always the same. I thought it was a pity because we were still in 2 other hotels during our holiday and there it was not. There we had the desired variety.

Unfortunately, the table situation was also such that everything was always occupied outside on the terrace and inside the staff could hardly keep up with the decking. The tables themselves were so close together that you could almost have eaten with your neighbor. Found the ambience generally not inviting.

Once we had a dinner, right on the first evening, as we didn't want to go to the city but wanted to end the evening relaxed, after the long journey.

Relaxed was different. It was extremely noisy, the waiters didn’t come either, we waited forever until we could place our drink order and the food itself wasn’t really special for the money. Were expecting more...

The hotel's outdoor area is OK for 4 stars, but the interior design and room layout take some getting used to. There is only one lounge, which is used as a bar, event room, games room and TV room, in the evening mainly by loud children who have mostly had an anti-authoritarian upbringing! This also extends to the hotel's outdoor area, sometimes until late at night.
The sandy beach in front of the hotel, which is a reasonable distance away (about 10 minutes' walk), including the beach bar, is managed by another hotel (Tivoli, located in downtown Lagos) with preference given to its own hotel guests. 2 loungers with a fixed sunroof cost us €18 per day, whereas the hotel guests only pay €9. The unfriendly and petty lounger attendant and cashier did the rest.
Anyone who wants to leave the complex in the evening can do so, but if they return after 10 p.m. they will have to use the side entrance, the door is locked with a chain, and the hotel can only be entered through the main entrance on the other side of the relatively large complex. This deliberately hinders visits to the beach and the numerous restaurants there, which usually offer much better quality.
The pizzeria within the complex was absolutely out of the question for us, the quality did not meet our expectations (after several years of intensive experience living in Italy).
One more note: our room was often not made up until after 5 p.m., and apologies don't help much!

We paid 1300€ for 3 nights, 4 days in what was going to be an all-inclusive and wonderful resort, and it turns out it was a most unpleasant stay.

Starting with the buffet, very scarce, repetitive and of poor quality, at lunchtime, every day there was the same thing, the waiters, many of them unpleasant, do not pay attention and do not serve your drink or take your dirty dishes, accumulating on the table.
The first day I ordered ketchup and was told by one of the waitresses with a rather sharp tone that “they no longer had”, without giving me more solutions.
As for the SPA, we paid for a massage that was wonderful, as did the girls there, but as we left the massage and went to the pool area, jacuzzi and other spa facilities, we realized that it is full of children, jumping in the pool, splashing and screaming, when supposedly it is a rest area.
Another day, after lunch, we went upstairs to rest in the room, which was impossible since there were works from 12:00 pm to 16:00 h that we already got off because the blows were terrible.
Activities focused on children, adults have no entertainment.
In the pool bar very unpleasant waiters.
Overall the very unpleasant staff except the cleaning, which are all wonderful.
After all this, we decided to talk to the assistant director, to whom we conveyed all the above and our discomfort, giving us as “compensation” the possibility of eating in the 2 restaurants of carte that we did not have included.
In short, we have not rested from the resort we have paid for.
I would never go again.

The hotel itself is nice and clean and the food was to a good standard (whenever we go to all inclusive we end up eating out but this was the most we’ve used an all inclusive restaurant which is testament to the quality) we are early so there were no queues like others have said.
Top tip the food at the pool bar is delicious and included in the all inclusive, my son loved the hotdogs and burgers and we loved the wraps and sandwiches.
Our family room was a good size, the toilet door had no lock which was annoying.
Room tip: if you have toddlers don’t go for a ground floor room as they can escape. Our kids are older so was good for us as we could walk straight out to the pool.
There is a guy that tags your beds if they are left and after 45 min if you don’t return he takes your stuff and puts them in storage, this meant there was always a sun bed available and there was no saving beds at 7am which I liked although he was a little OTT at times.
There were plenty of green areas around which my son liked as he could play football.
You can walk to the beach which is stunning it’s 0.2km! But take everything with you as there are no shops, the shop onsite sells everything you need for the beach.
The town is €5 away by taxi and worth a trip, lovely shops and a market, nice football shop there, my son got a Portugal FC top for €19 and had Ronaldo 7 added to it for €10
The negative is a big one for us …the pool was freezing, no one was in it and those who did get in it were straight out after a few mins, it was so cold that my kids who normally spend the whole of the holiday in the pool spent the majority of the holiday bored on the sunloungers or in the room on their phones - I would not recommend or return here purely because of the pool! I think it’s because the pool is so big it’s impossible for the sun to heat it up.
There was a kids club but the majority of the guests were Portuguese, so the kids club was catered to this (quite rightly)

We have just returned from a 7 night stay at the 4 star Vila Gale Hotel near Lagos Portugal, after a 1 hour taxi transfer we arrived at the hotel we were impressed with the reception area very spacious, check in was very quick and we were soon on our way to our room, we had upgraded to a Seaview room suite as we like a lot of space and the room did not disappoint, the only thing missing was the tea/coffee making facilities this was soon corrected, the only thing I was disappointed with was that they were not replenished once during our stay this did not bother us as we always take coffee and milk with us but it still is not the point.
The hotel is set in a horseshoe shape with 3 large swimming pools and a large garden area, very impressive, our room overlooked this along with the sea view, there were ample sunbeds arranged around the pool area.
We were all inclusive so all meals (breakfast, lunch, evening meals)and drinks were included, in the main restaurant there was always something to satisfy your appetite, we mainly had lunch at the pool / snack bar could not fault it, at this point I wish to mention 2 members of staff that gave great service with a very friendly and professional attitude, Liliana Santos and Ricardo Uarela, Liliana you were fantastic and I thank you for all the meals and drinks that you served us you were a real star and a credit to the hotel. If you are staying 7 nights you can eat in the al'a'cart Italian or Portuguese restaurants once, we did both and had great meals / service we recommend you take up the offer.
On one overcast day we caught the little train into Lagos, the stop is across the road from the rear gate of the hotel, the fare is 5.5 euros per person and you can hop on / off at any of the stops the ticket lasts all day.
If you venture to this part of the country at this time of the year beware it can go quite cool of a night time.
Please pass my thanks to all staff especially Liliana.

Just returned from a one week bed and breakfast stay at this beautiful hotel. I must say it far exceeded our expectations. The staff were all so friendly and polite. We were delighted with our surprise room upgrade and complimentary wine and chocolate strawberries.

The sea and beach are just across the road from the hotel with easy access via a back gate. Its a beautiful walk along the boardwalk into Lagos which takes about 25 minutes at a stroll, and if you are too tired to walk back it is only 6 Euros for a 5 minute taxi journey back to the hotel. There is a taxi rank in Lagos on the front.

There are plenty of places to eat out. You don't even have to go into Lagos. Turn left out of the back gate and you have a choice of two or three places to eat less than five minute walk away. But I would highly recommend the Italian on site and the fine dinning. The food and service was great and very well priced for the standard of cuisine.

This hotel was perfect for our out of season holiday. There were plenty of sunbeds and lovely grounds. The pool is massive. The poolside cafe offers plenty of choice at a reasonable price if you decide to have a day relaxing on site.

I would definitely return at this time of the year when the weather was a perfect 24 degrees with a light breeze.

Thank-you to all the staff at Vila Gale for giving us a memorable holiday.
