Just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel and would certainly recommend it. I’m guessing this has hotel has been fully refurbished in the last few years as it has a completely new modern feel to the rooms and all public areas including the restaurant. This was a pleasant change from the typically tired and dated Portuguese hotels you usually come across. The Covid secure measures in place were adhered too by all staff and the hotel measures made for a safe stay. The meals at breakfast and dinner are split into sittings of your choice to minimise numbers at any time and to minimise queuing. Of course you have to queue and be served with most of your food and I’m guessing there is less choice than the hotel may normally provide but in these Covid times this is perfectly acceptable for safety. The food was about what I expected so no complaints there either. It’s a decent walk to Lagos town or a short taxi ride and the hotel reception can easily sort a taxi. Return taxis were very easy with a rank in the main square. Some excellent restaurants in town which I will review separately. This hotel was very clean and well maintained and the service from staff was good especially as you must consider they will be operating on reduced numbers. Wide spacious pool area and no problem getting sun loungers. Both pool bar and full on Italian restaurant at the pool providing a choice of food if needed. Would definitely return

Hotel close to Meia Praia beach, a beach several kilometres long- Walking distance. The rooms are nice and clean. The AC in my room only would work full power or switched off. So the room was too cold at the middle of the night (this was August) and had to wake up to switch off the AC. Nevertheless the my room had views to the beach. Everything was clean in the room, and the personal was attentive and efficient. They offered to extend the check-out time. The hotel is big with entertainment areas and good parking. There is a big swimming pool outside and other heated inside. The outside pool seems more geared towards families with kids. However you may be tempted just to cross the road and go to the beach. Breakfast was nice. I felt safe regarding COVID. Masks mandatory when circulating in common areas. I recommend this hotel indeed.

We stayed at Vila Gale Lagos for ten days in July 2020. The hotel has some pros and cons, which I’ll try to explain. Overall the experience could have been better and I don't think I would stay here again. - Appearance The hotel is beautiful, very nicely decorated, the pool is huge, even if you have city view, you look out over the hotel gardens. - Rooms The rooms are very spacious, the balconies are very big, more than enough closet space, with a large bathroom and a good shower. In stead of a double bed you have two singles against each other, so an uncomfortable crack in the middle. I found the mattress very hard, which made my back hurt, especially after the 9th night. The rooms are cleaned very good and thorough. - Restaurant The restaurant is huge, with also an outside area, very nicely decorated. We were confused by the offer of a free beer/wine/soda package. Being used to beverage packages in other hotels and cruise ships, we assumed the package would be valid all day, but this was limited to dinner or lunch only. Due to the covid-19 situation, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in shifts. Because there’s only one person that directs everyone to their tables, the lines are endless and everyone's cramped in the confined area in front of the restaurant. Not very covid-proof, even when wearing face masks. We had the 10:00 breakfast shift and on multiple mornings it took till after 10:30 before we finally got a table. This could easily be solved by having two people assign the tables. You have to wear a face mask throughout the restaurant whenever you’re not seated at your table. - Breakfast For breakfast there’s one buffet station for bread and pastries, and one or two for warm dishes. Both with long lines most of the time. The weird thing is that you get the syrup, caramel and chocolate sauce at the bread station, and pancakes at the other station. So you need to stand in line for the syrup first, then continue to stand in line for the pancakes, because if you do it the other way around, your pancakes will be cold by the time you get back to your table. The quality of the breakfast is okay, barely any variation, it’s the same every day. It’s hard to get a second round of coffee or orange juice, there’s just not enough staff for the amount of guests. - Lunch and dinner For lunch and dinner, there’s also one or two warm buffet stations, and a bread and pastry station. At dinner, the lines are so long that people are literally standing in line right next to your table. This is just a lack of organization and capacity, just put some extra staff there to serve people faster and arrange the lines. They do not have ketchup or mayonaise at the buffet stations, you need to order that with the waiter. Make sure to order the ketchup/mayo first before getting in line for your fries, else your fries will be cold before you get it. They try to slightly vary with the dishes they offer, but there’s really not much variation. The food is what can be expected for the € 15 - € 20 per day you pay for the half board. You get what you pay for. The desserts are very nice and varied. At dinner it’s also hard to get a second round of drinks. I think that’s also due to a lack of staff, they’re doing the best they can, and look pretty stressed. - Pool area The pool is enormous and really beautiful. I love the olive trees that are all around. However, there’s not enough capacity when it comes to the sun beds. If you get to the pool too late there’s not a single one left. They have notices saying it is not allowed to claim sun beds and that towels will be removed, but this is not enforced and some claimed sun beds remain empty for hours. They tried to add extra sun beds in the grass surrounding the pool area, but it was still not enough. People were just lying on their towels in the grass in the afternoon. - Cleanliness The hotel was very clean. Only the restrooms and changing rooms at the pool could use some extra attention. Hand gel is everywhere, all staff wear face masks, even outside. - Staff I didn’t find the staff very friendly, but maybe that’s in part because you can’t see if they smile or not - due to the face masks. A lot of the staff look stressed, they really do the best they can, but it was very busy at the hotel and especially in the restaurant, they just couldn’t decently handle the amount of guests. - Getting around Although you can walk to town (about 30 minutes), it’s quite a stroll in the heat. I’d advise a rental car to drive to town and the surrounding area. Parking at the hotel is free outside, in the parking garage it’s € 7,50 per day. - Dive shop There’s a dive shop called WeDive at the hotel with very friendly staff, very profession and well maintained gear, practically new. Prices are reasonable and the trips they offer are really nice, especially the ones to the Ocean Revival Wreck Park.
