Travelers' Choice
Casa Mãe is a property with a lot of heritage, the gardens are bordered by the 16th century antique walls, it is located in the historic part of Lagos, 5 minutes from the main beaches. We are now launching our soft opening and at the moment, we have opened our largest building, Jogo da Bola with its 22 rooms, its ORTA restaurant with its wide terrace and the concept store. There, you can expect contemporary, minimalist but playful design with much of local context, large balconies in all the rooms, with hammocks and the traditional Portuguese reixas, those traditional wooden grid panels that create a special atmosphere with just enough protection and transparency. About our restaurant, it is very much based on the farm-to-table concept, everything is homemade/ home baked/ homegrown, from the bread to the veggies! It offers a mix of casual fine dining/ gourmet and seasonal menu with healthy, raw food and gourmet breakfast options cooked in an open kitchen, using the produce of our inland farm cultivated according to organic and permaculture principles. Restaurant, farm, terraced garden and also a large concept store! In the new building Jogo da Bola, we have 120sqm dedicated to Portuguese design that is also promoting the work of our 24 collaborations with Portuguese designers and artisans that are showcased in our Casa Mãe magazine launched last May in Lisbon. At Casa Mãe we aim to be a space open to the community, we are expanding our property and soon (January) we will have more than 7000sqm with three different spaces and atmospheres. Besides our Jogo da Bola building we will have more two buildings, the carefully renovated master house from the 19th century with 5 unique rooms, the 3 rustic outdoor Cabanas in the aromatic garden.

The photos show a charming old building and several cottage type buildings. They are there But much of the hotel is in a fairly modern office looking block down the garden My room in the old building was pretty and beautifully renovated. It faced north east so no sunshine really. The bed was super comfy but the quilt too thin. If you visit, ask for a heavier one if you need it A fantastic job the owners have done in the building renovation though, with other odd buildings scattered around the main building too Meals served all day is a bonus. In the modern building all open plan ; with a central open kitchen ; style is beach .. the problem being that it was always cold at dinner. But it was November Breakfast has a confusing menu with things which are and which are not included with this choice and that choice. Maybe a simpler presentation would help because the breakfast food is fresh and good. The homemade granola is to die for. And the morning jazz played at breakfast was the most suitable and relaxing I ever heard Dinner was well presented and was always open to amendments when asked. A fish night, a steak night and a fresh pasta night were all superb; I will long remember the apple crumble with hazelnut ice cream. I had it three nights out of three. There are some garden areas but surprisingly no seats to enjoy them while taking the warm autumn sunshine . Pity Staff overall have been very good; at times exceptional. Safety was good except the waitress who kept not wearing her mask correctly even when serving food. It was one person but .. ! This is a serious matter and needs rectifying quickly Casa Mae is expensive and I was expecting a very personal exceptional place. It was very good. For those of you who can remember so far back, it was exactly 44 years earlier that I was at another wonderful personally owned hotel which really set the standard ... The Sharrow Bay Hotel under Francis Coulson and Brian Sack

Another beautiful dinner at Casa Mae. Without doubt this is one of the best hotels certainly in Lagos and i am sure all of the Algarve too. The service is outstanding, the food is sublime , all locally sourced or grown in their garden within the hotel grounds , which is a beautiful place to have a wonder. Casa Mae has a wonderful store on the ground floor , promoting Portugese artisans. I could happily live at Casa Mae forever more.

I highly recommend this amazing boutique hotel in Lagos. All the details are amazing: interior and exterior design, food, choice of beverages, service and the music. When you first arrive at the hotel you listen to their selection of relaxing music to enter in the Portuguese mood! The rooms are beautiful and cozy with good linen and pillows. Amenities is organic and they give you a safety kit for use in your stay due to Covid crisis. It’s a calm place to relax if you look for a busy party hotel with loud music it’s not a place for you. Here you enjoy a slow life and the beauty of simple things. I’d like to thank all the front desk staff who took a good care of us: Geraldine , Solange, Catarina, Anita, Sergio and Guilherme for advising us to enjoy the best of Lagos and of the beautiful Algarve. We’ll come back for sure!

Terrible hotel to deal with! Booked a Reservation to stay at this hotel through Expedia. Casa Mae contacted me separately and told me to cancel Expedia and book directly with them for a better price. I did it and now due to the Covid pandemic, I am no longer able to go and they will not refund me. It’s been 3 months that I’ve been trying to get a refund and they refuse.

My boyfriend and I traveled across Spain and Portugal on our recent trip in January and Casa Mae was not only the best hotel we stayed at but one of the highlights of our trip. I usually don't leave reviews but after our stay at Casa Mae I had to. Everything was spotless clean (lobby, restaurant, hotel room, hallways, etc) The staff is so attentive. From the minute we arrived, they made sure we had everything we needed. The man at the front desk (I can't remember his name but he was tall, with brown hair) walked through a map of the city and gave us tips for places to visit. The hotel restaurant is one of the best places I've eaten! Don't skip it! Our waiter/maître d' was the best! We were curious to take home some local wine and he walked through various wines at the hotel and also recommended a local wine store. As he knew we were headed to Lisbon next he even recommended a few wine stores in Lisbon and other places to go. Casa Mae is a little corner of paradise. We will definitely be back to Lagos and will only stay at Casa Mae.
