#8 of 63 hotels in Lagos
Casa Mãe is a property with a lot of heritage, the gardens are bordered by the 16th century antique walls, it is located in the historic part of Lagos, 5 minutes from the main beaches. We are now launching our soft opening and at the moment, we have opened our largest building, Jogo da Bola with its 22 rooms, its ORTA restaurant with its wide terrace and the concept store. There, you can expect contemporary, minimalist but playful design with much of local context, large balconies in all the rooms, with hammocks and the traditional Portuguese reixas, those traditional wooden grid panels that create a special atmosphere with just enough protection and transparency. About our restaurant, it is very much based on the farm-to-table concept, everything is homemade/ home baked/ homegrown, from the bread to the veggies! It offers a mix of casual fine dining/ gourmet and seasonal menu with healthy, raw food and gourmet breakfast options cooked in an open kitchen, using the produce of our inland farm cultivated according to organic and permaculture principles. Restaurant, farm, terraced garden and also a large concept store! In the new building Jogo da Bola, we have 120sqm dedicated to Portuguese design that is also promoting the work of our 24 collaborations with Portuguese designers and artisans that are showcased in our Casa Mãe magazine launched last May in Lisbon. At Casa Mãe we aim to be a space open to the community, we are expanding our property and soon (January) we will have more than 7000sqm with three different spaces and atmospheres. Besides our Jogo da Bola building we will have more two buildings, the carefully renovated master house from the 19th century with 5 unique rooms, the 3 rustic outdoor Cabanas in the aromatic garden.

Over all very good. Downgraded a dot because the kitchen is open and the smell of cooking permeates the entire building. Probably not such an issue in the summer with the many windows open, but certainly in the colder months with them closed against the colder weather. Not everyone wants to smell frying bacon first thing in the morning! A questionable design choice in a property that otherwise has it all.

We were there in September. This trip had been canceled twice already and we were so excited to finally get here. Upon arrival while we waited for our room to get ready we had a fantastic lunch outside with wine and a small dish. The gentleman who served us was funny and friendly and we knew right away that this was the place to be. We stayed six nights and enjoyed each day. The rooms are so clean and the staff was very friendly. Whenever I had questions about anything in town they answered right away. The morning we were leaving they offered to get us coffee even though the restaurant was not open yet. The next time we come to Lagos we plan on staying here. Also - about the location. It's at the top of the walled part of town so you walk downhill into the town center - 5 minutes away. I liked the fact that it was not in the center of town so it was quiet. Very close to the hotel is an old cemetery which is interesting to explore, and behind the hotel along the old wall are fantastic views of Lagos. Be sure to walk around and explore.

This hotel used to be very welcoming. We can only think that there had been a change of management/ownership recently. The staff are rude , arrogant and obstructive. With so many wonderful places to visit in Lagos I would not in any circumstances recommend.

We have frequented Casa Mae quite a few times since it’s opening. It’s location is wonderful The decor is relaxing and tasteful. We’ve had some nice meals - mainly lunchtime ( we had a bad supper experience ) Sometimes we just pop in for coffee and a glass of wine. Whilst on one of our regular Lagos visits we thought we would call in for a late lunch/ snack. However when we arrived this wasn’t possible. Something about not booking…. They needed a few hours notice… We explained we would be happy with a coffee and a glass of wine. This wasn’t possible either. At which point we gave up. Such a shame - their loss. We went elsewhere and had an amazing evening.

ve a table available and the front staff said “No” even though the restaurant was empty. Not very polite but we understand that maybe the hotel has a no outside guest policy which was not communicated. My wife then kindly asked if she could use the toilet and staff answered by asking if we are guests at the hotel. Awkward for such attitude from front house staff of a supposedly 5 star hotel. Overall, my review is of this interaction with the front house staff but it communicated a lot to me that things aren’t as polished here as they market themselves to be. It’s sad that this type of attitude from the staff would make me feel this way and not welcome at all. The reality is even if I’m not a customer now, I may be a customer in the future. We stay and visit luxury 5 star hotels all around the world whether boutique or larger hotels and this was by far one of the most awkward interactions at a hospitality venue. Based of this experience I would not recommend staying here as why take a chance ruining your holiday with such attitude from the staff.
