My God I do cringe at comments on this but i will do my best to give it to you as it is. My partner and myself travel alot and have stayed in everything from 5* to 2*. This is a 3* without a doubt. It is really a lovely place to stay if you are looking for a quiet holiday. You can use all the facilities at the hotel at no extra cost. There is a fantastic pool and beach. Now to the rooms which alot of people cry about. We too did stay in a 3rd floor room on one of the three 4 story blocks. Yes they are basic but so what? everything works. And if you dont have a toaster or a kettle all you have to do is ask at reception and your sorted. There is no a/c but there is a large sliding door which if left open is just perfect. Anyway the wind does rise at night so dont even worry about a/c. The place is cleaned every day and staff were very nice. For those who moan about places like this, maybe you should go for a 4* or 5* as you get what you pay for. We just got back yesterday 22/09/11 and had a great time. There is a bus stop right outside which costs 3.10e eachway pp to Albuferia if you want to hit the pubs and diners. They stop at 7pm so after that you have to get a taxi which is about 12e. Also from the beach you cal walk to Villamoura, about 20-30 mins depending on how fast you walk. It's beautiful. It has a fantastic marina, beach, restaurants and bars and you can check out the hotels there for another trip. Might suit the moaners who are happy to moan about 3* but want 5* accomodation. I hope this was helpful now go and enjoy your hols.

Very good location but difficult to find because it is not indicated as "Algarve Gardens". In fact check in is at the reception of hotel/beach resort "Alfamar". Rooms in the appartments are average but the staff is friendly and helpful.

Came here for 1 week in August. Gutted by reading reviews prior however thought we would give it a go
Agree it's miles from anywhere but we got a bus into old town every night at 7.15pm.(last bus) for €3.35. Then taxi back for €13.
Room looked liked 70s Russia.. Basic. No Air con.. No WiFi. We were in studios 3rd floor up . No lift so carrying cases was hard.
Patio doors don't lock or shut.. So they were left open all the time.
The nights were so hot.. And we hardly slept.. Plus we were bit loads through the night
However the pool area and beach were great.. It wouldn't be my 1st choice due to a few things... But we had a laugh and got a cracking tan..

Iv visited many many countries and stayed in many different hotels & apartments from 2* to 5* this review is not an exaggeration it's the truth ! It is impossible to say everything in this one review of my experience of this hotel. For starters I knew I was staying in the studio apartments not the hotel itself as I booked this and I expected it to be less quality than the hotel as hotel is 4* and studios are 3* I was not expecting a 5 star resort. But what me and my boyfriend experiencd here there are no words to describe the treatment we received from the rude staff at the hotel & The most disgusting room I have ever seen it was no more than a 1*.
Rooms are suppose to be cleaned 6 days a week but in reality the beds where hardly ever changed as I noticed the same stain on the bed sheets for a long time ! Maids do half a job by making the beds to make it look like its changed , bins not changed often, clean towels/ toilet roll sometimes not left , rooms themselves have no air con , no kettle , fridge was broken as it had this terrible loud noise coming from it & covered in rust with the most disgusting smell of rotten fish when was opened . No sun came near balcony so very hard to dry clothes , nowhere to hang clothes as there was bird droppings all over balcony. Rooms basically have never seen an upgrade in the 35 years they are there. The place needs demolished. Paint flaking everywhere, rust on everything.
The staff are rude, unhelpful and unprofessional, especially the 3 women we had experience with. We arrived at hotel at around 11am we were checked in abruptly, staff did not greet us or wish us a good Time or anything and just handed us the most confusing map to find our own way to the room ourselves as the studios are in blocks away from the hotel the complex is massive consisting of the hotel itself, ALOT of villas and 2 blocks of apartments. somebody could have helped us to our room as they where all sitting about chatting but didn't bother helping and left us to find it ourselves it took us a long time to find the apartments dragging suitcases in the severe heat at one stage finding ourselves unknowingly walking to the beach ! When we eventualy found it we had to lift our suitcases up 4 flights of stairs as no lift ! The staff where so unhelpful through our whole holiday they made us feel like an inconvenience we came across no other guests that spoke English as there first language nobody from uk or Ireland unless they ran away from hotel at every opportunity like us !! It was all Portuguese people which was one of the reasons we feel like they didn't want us there . We witnessed the female staff on reception desk laughing and joking about guests as they walked past laughing about how fat a man was and about "Dutch" people and many other unprofessional things like them leaving the phone off the hook ( thinking to myself that was dangerous because what if I needed to contact the reception if something happened to me or my boyfriend as we where away from hotel in studios) they just left the phone off hook to continue laughing and making fun of how guests look as they walk past. We witnessed this while waiting for a taxi which always took them ages to ring for us one night them telling us to wait outside and I asked how long would it be and to her reply she said "I don't know wait outside all night I don't know" the cheek we received was unbelievable and they very clearly talked about us when we walked away looking over discussing and laughing in a different language that they knew we did not speak as we spoke English. Taxis to Albefueira are 18€ each way we had to pay this every night as no places to eat round hotel ! There is nothing around hotel to do me and my boyfriend where lucky to have enough money to be able to go in and out of Albefueira and enjoy ourselves but this might not be possible for families. We chose not to eat in hotel as staff where so rude and don't cater for the Irish or English only Portuguese and German, we spent a lot of money it was a very expensive holiday because of the money we had to pay gettin to places. There was one nice cafe we ate in for breakfast that was very cheap just outside the complex .
You are very brave if you are coming here Thomas cook booked us here they said they have sent loads of people to the studios but they need to stop in my opinion English / Scottish / welsh & Irish are not welcome they make that very clear by the way they treat u .
Hotel is right on the beach it is beautiful but is very crowded with locals who drive and use hotel parking for the beach ( they aren't suppose to but nobody stops them) there is cars parked everywhere on every bit of path available so u dodge ur way through them to get to it.
Do not come to this hotel or stay in the studios or villas unless u want to be treated terrible live in a dirty prison cell . It would be hell for an english speaking family. very disappointed as this  was my first time in portugal and very much enjoyed my holiday when I was away from complex the staff gave a very bad reflection on portugeise people and their country shame on them no idea how they can get away with treating guests like that . The worst women on reception was slim, brown hair, with red glasses look out for her in my opinion she should be sacked ! No manager in the world should have unprofessional staff working for them. If u are already booked change hotel !
Sorry for very long review it still hasnt even got half of what we experienced in it goodluck to future guests we have never experienced a room / staff that where this terrible.

Ok its easy to slate places like this on here but if you go expecting the Ritz and pay 100 quid for the week expectations may not be met. Let me put this in context, this is a budget break in facilities that are basic and clean and excellent value at the price paid.
We arrived late on Saturday night and reception was pleasant enough and directed us to our room. Yes it was in the 3 storey block, yes there is no disabled lift but if thats your issue you would check first.
Room is clean with kitchenette bath shower and loo. It is dated circa 1970s but for us a room is somewhere to wash and sleep in and as long as it is clean its fine. The room passes on this score. Remember for a week in March 2 people the accommodation costs 100 quid or less than 15 a night, perfectly adequate for what we paid.
The Alfamar facilities are all free to use and there is an excellent little Italian restaurant at the back of the complex.
Others on here have slated the place but look at all their reviews and if they slate everywhere they stay, they need to spend more.
In summary very good for a mini break cheapie getting some winter sun

When you book a break to somewhere new it always feels like a gamble and a risk, especially when you read other peoples reviews on a place. My boyfriend and I booked to stay at Algarve gardens as a short break without the children and we were so surprised and pleased when we arrived. The staff all seemed really helpful and friendly and the setting within beautiful gardens was gorgeous. The beach is a stones throw and is breathtaking and the complex is set in a quiet area but with easy access to the bus stop which gets you to Albufeira in about 15 minutes. From Albufeira you can access other areas of Portugal and there are lots of activities , trips, markets etc to entertain you. On the whole my boyfriend and I love this place and are looking to take the children back within the month!! Do not be put off by negative, moaning fussy holiday makers who would not be satisfied anywhere!!

Me and my partner have stayed here 3 times and will continue to go every year from now on, we are mid 20's and realistic people who when we pay £60-80 each for a room for a week know what to expect, we also dont go on holiday for a great hotel room we go for location and for that this place is brilliant, step out of the hotel and you get 3 choices, left for the glamour of vilamoura, stay where you are for one of the best beaches in europe or go right for the quiet of sleepy olho's d'agua. Our contact with staff has only ever been taking keys and dropping them back off, I wont lie we dont do a 130 point check on our hotel room, if the toilet flushes, the waters hot and is cleaned daily we are happy and it always has been for us. Shop around and you can stop here for a steal so well worth putting the time in as I would be angry if I spent £400+ to stay here as much as we do love it. Elderly may struggle with location. GIVE IT A GO :)

Having read many reviews before departure, I was a little anxious. Upon evening arrival at the hotel to check-in my friend and I were dealt with efficiently and promptly. We had to walk the length of the complex to reach our studio, but it was well-lit. We were on the first floor of one of the two "tower-blocks" which I had read of. What complete nonsense! The two buildings are both only 3 floors high, not deserving of that name. We were on the first floor up easy stairs. A small hall led to the right into a large, light and airy room with twin beds, a TV, a large table, two chairs and an easy chair. A spacious balcony with table and two chairs was accessed through the sliding doors, an excellent space for eating or an evening drink, looking over well-cared for gardens interspersed with little white houses. From the hall there was a separate kitchen, small but well-equipped and there was a bathroom with full bath, shower over, bidet, WC and wash basin. It was amply supplied with products and white towels, which were changed every three days. The studio was cleaned daily apart from Sunday.
Breakfast was included in the package, eaten in the hotel. A really excellent choice of food, from cereals, yoghurts, fresh fruit, meats and cheese to full English, well-cooked and regularly replenished.
The hotel's facilities were at our disposal, including the indoor and outdoor pools and access to the beach, a very short distance from the beautiful gardens.
There were some restaurants close by, a supermarket and a bus stop, making it a great location even though it was in the countryside.
This holiday was arranged through Tour Center and was a package including EasyJet flights and the studio with breakfast included. All this for £199! My friend and I plan to return next year. We were there from 5th to 12th October in temperatures of 25 degrees, which were unusually high for the time of year but very welcome.
I cannot think of one thing to say which spoiled our week and very much wanted to dispel anxieties after reading reviews from people who seemed to expect exclusive luxury at rock-bottom prices. The hotel is 4-star and deserves it. To be in the grounds and use its facilities made our studio holiday even more pleasurable.

Stayed mid May for a week. My girlfriend found a deal for this hotel which was £15 a night for an apartment with breakfast included for both of us. That's an insane price. You can't pitch a tent in a field for that. Seriously good value. Our apartment was huge to our surprise. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, massive lounge and a functional kitchen. We couldn't believe it. We should have invited some friends to stay with us! Ok, the room was dated and hadn't been decorated since it was built but importantly, it was clean. The beds were fine too, we slept well. I don't know what people expect for £15 a night. Some of the complaints I've seen about the rooms are over exaggerated and ridiculous. I can't take a review seriously when someone on holiday complains about the TV not having any English channels. You're on holiday, why are you in your room all day?

The hotel brands itself as a sports hotel which it isn't. 90% of the folks there were over 50 but everyone we spoke to were friendly and helpful. There's WiFi in the main hotel which worked fine. The breakfast was good, plenty of choice as long as you arrived before 9:30. Plenty of sunbeds around the outdoor pool and surrounding garden. Nobody was around the pool until 10am so no need to race out to reserve a bed. The bars were good value too. The hotel is right on the beach, it's an incredible sight. One of the most beautiful beaches I've seen. And it was quiet too which was perfect. There's a mini beach bar if you wanted a pint or cocktail. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the dinner at the hotel. It's 20 euros which isn't bad however the drinks in the hotel restaurant are so expensive. Better value to eat out at restaurants in the evening time.

The staff at the hotel weren't very friendly but I wouldn't say rude either. I think as a British person, I'm used to over polite manners and when I go abroad, other countries just haven't got the same level of customer service. That's nothing against the hotel. The hotel also has an indoor pool, a spa and jacuzzi/sauna area open in the afternoons. We booked a couple of excursions from the hotel too, the staff who worked on there were helpful and sorted everything out for us, no problem.

I saw complaints on here that there's hardly anything to do around the hotel. That's not true at all. Yes, the hotel is in a rural location and it's 20mins into Albuferia and Vilamoura via taxi or rental car. So if you're looking for the town life with tonnes of bars, this isn't the place for you. We attempted to walk via the beach to Vilamoura which was beautiful but it took a good 45mins to an hour. A 10min walk down the road takes you to a small town where the luxury hotels are based. There's a number of good bars, restaurants, bigger supermarket and an awesome Chinese restaurant. 25 euros for a buffet style dinner for 2 and a bottle of red for 5 euros. Fantastic food and cheap too. The best place to go out in the evenings if you don't want to pay for taxis into the main towns.

I really enjoyed Albuferia marina where the boat excursions were held. However personally, I did not like Albuferia old town at all. I'll admit, we most likely visited on the wrong day. It was a Saturday night, there was loads of stag/hen weekends happening and it looked like a middle aged version of Malia. The bars were packed full of drunk British people. That's fine for a mad weekend with friends, but not suitable for couples having a relaxing holiday. I'd have to visit again on a weekday when it'd be quieter. I'll always give places another chance. I still thought the town was tacky and another European town where my country made it a sunny Skegness. I'll try again one day.

Overall we really enjoyed our holiday here. The value for money you will not find anywhere else in the area. It was so cheap beyond belief. If people are complaining about the quality of the rooms then don't be so tight and expect miracles. That's why I wouldn't trust the majority of the negative reviews. They have been wrote by people who are expecting the best experience for £15 a night. It's never going to happen. If you want a cheap week in the sun, relaxing and going out in the evenings for meals and a few drinks this is perfect. If I wanted another dirt cheap getaway, I would definitely consider coming here again.

Yes, there is a hair dryer but be careful. Maintenance in these apartments is below par with sockets hanging off wall. I would suggest booking elsewhere if possible.

Towels are provided. There is only one decent restaurant close by - the Italian one. The two others are just cafes. The hotel Alfamar is good for breakfast. Don't expect much from these apartments, maintenance way below par. As others have said, I would advise booking elsewhere.

Hi yes there is one, just on the main road to the left. The shop sells just about everything it isn’t huge but perfect size. Don’t use the hotel shop it is overpriced and a poor variety of stock. Enjoy your holiday!!
