The resort: Strikingly beautiful landscaping and grounds. It’s amazing and I’m sure takes a ton of upkeep. Really lovely work. Crazy beautiful beach. That being said, it is a bit of a trek from the residences so we only ended up there 2x in 8 days. Really great people. All of our servers and the staff in general was super friendly. Very good food and not overly expensive like some of the other resorts we have been to. We ate dinners at Yakuza 2x, Pescatore and PiriPiri and they were all wonderful. We also really liked Codova Cafe for a casual dinner. Every restaurant in Portugal seemingly has piri piri sauce and if you like spicy this is amazing - ask for it everywhere. The kids area was okay. Our kids are 5 and 8 so felt like the play equipment was a bit boring and pretty minimal. Also you have to pay to use a lot of it which is annoying. The pool is beautiful. Kids loved it. They are also easygoing about toys and rafts so that added fun each day. Also chairs are easy to get so it’s nice not to have to wake at 6am to get seating. One caveat to the pool experience - it is incredibly slippery. Shoes or no shoes it doesn’t matter. I saw so many people fall because you really have to walk extremely slowly gripping the tile to avoid slipping. Every time I saw a pregnant woman walking I was holding my breath. The resort should just replace that flooring - it’s crazy to watch that many people fall every day. I can say it just wouldn’t be there in the US bc of liability concerns. The worst thing about the resort which would influence my decision to return is the shuttle situation. It is a massive resort so the walks can easily be 30 minutes. For the entire restore they have TWO 8 person shuttles. The amount of times we ended up having to drag two kids on 30 minute walks to get to lunch or the pool made the experience a bit painful. The alternative was frequently 10-20 minute waits which often was met with “sorry I am full”. Also the shuttles are these black vans which require someone get out and pull a seat forward in order for folks to board. Why a resort at this level wouldn’t spend the $$ to get a bunch of expanded golf carts that allow easier access and offer a more beach-vibe is pretty obtuse. The rooms: Loved that we could find 2 and 3 bedroom options for our large family. That is always tough to find so absolutely feel that it plays a large roll in determining the value of the hotel. Understanding that, here are my observations: The decor of the rooms feels dated. You can feel it in the aesthetic and design of the rooms. Some examples TVs in the bedrooms are 18” desktop monitors and function traditionally meaning no Netflix or Amazon capabilities. Basically local news and pay-for movies. The bathrooms feel tired. Small sinks. Not much storage area. A little dirty in the cracks etc. The master had a rain shower which was very good but all the other bathrooms were only equipped with tiny handheld showers. They seem to be a bit tight with toiletry products and towels. We had to call for more once. It feels dark. Like a lot of older homes, there is no ceiling lighting so it can feel a bit dark all of the time. I needed a flashlight to see my clothes in the wardrobe at night but then realized the bulb in that cabinet was just burned out. Each room has 5 switches controlling a combination of outlets and lamps for the room. The switches sit outside the room and it’s unclear exactly what is tied to what so it can become a bit frustrating to try to figure out how to turn on a light you can’t see while flipping the switch. Also it means that you may wake up to a dead phone/device bc the switch was inadvertently flipped. There are so many cable hookups for fax machines etc (as shown in the photos) but almost no outlets to charge devices on. You end up moving furniture and crawl into spaces to find places to plug in. Because of this scarcity of outlets, it did feel like quite a bit of work to charge our electronic devices each day. Beds were fine. Could use more pillows. Kitchenettes and Laundry. Again, these components look dated; conceptually it’s great to have them. That being said, it didn’t feel that value add as the kitchen fridge had nothing provided (not even the option to at least pay for water, soda, snacks like in a typical hotel room and would have appreciated having something there), no ice machine and/or ice trays, no salt / pepper and microwaves that are seemingly 25 years old so no longer easily used. Also no great coffee machine.

...I'd pick somewhere else. The location, the views, the beach and the grounds are absolutely beautiful; however, my expectations for luxury and personalized service were not even close to being met by this property. For example: *We enjoy a day laying by the pool ordering a few drinks and some light snacks. There is no service offered at the pool - you need to go over to the restaurant. *We enjoy being pampered by the pool - e.g. "Sir, would you like an extra towel?". Well here the towels are locked down through a system of "towel cards" with unique serial numbers that you have to present for each towel. Are their 700 euro a night guests really stealing so many towels that it is necessary to lock down the inventory? *We love having the hotel concierge help us with reservations on the property - but here we were told that even though we were guests, we have to provide a credit card to reserve dinner and be subject to hefty penalties if we don't show up. *We were thrilled to book a two bedroom residence with a kitchen and laundry; having fresh laundry in the middle of a multi-week trip is a true luxury. At this hotel we found that the kitchen and laundry room had nothing supplied, no dishtowel, no dish cloth, no paper towels, no dish soap, no coffee, no laundry soap, etc. They apologized for not giving us the cloth/towel, but said if we want to wash dished or do laundry we have to go get the soap ourselves. Even after asking if we could get just one portion of soap, we were told they have "none" and we need to go to a store. No doubt the hotel is well aware that it is in need of renovations, which I can only imagine must be coming soon... but until then you will be happy to find a dedicated fax line if you bring your own fax machine. Just don't expect to find anywhere to charge your cell phone within 10 meters of your bed. These are just a few things that caused us to checkout after one night instead of our planned five nights - and I've left out things that we didn't like but might be a matter of taste or preference for other travellers. The pièce de résistance: the hotel has so many rooms that they completely didn't track, follow-up, or care that we were unhappy. When we said we were leaving dissatisfied they just reminded us to get our keys reprogrammed - not a single other word.

I am a frequent traveller to the Yaiza in Lanzarote & decided to come here this year with my wife & 4 kids as read reviews & all seemed great. I cannot fault the accommodation which is 5* & facilities are fantastic however in terms of activities for kids it’s very poor. The kids club & timetable although on initial view looks great it’s restrictive & the extra costs off putting. Furthermore the phone reception & wifi extremely poor & when communicated to reception they accepted this issue but did nothing to address & only offered a fee paying alternative which was poor considering the cost of staying in the first instance. Added to this the food is way over priced & service very poor & slow. We are here with two other families & they share the same disappointment & opinion. Had a meal the first night at the steak house Piri Piri (16 of us) & not only was the service was desperate & the food served cold ( a number of plates were returned) they had no issue in serving us with a huge bill at the end. Every night since we have eaten outside the resort & have to say the value & service outside has been great & I could not recommend eating in the resort itself to anyone (bar the beach Mare which has a good service that you would except but still very over-priced). Have never written a review before & don’t want to be negative but we are all disappointed & although I am cognisant of staffing issues throughout the world since Covid the rudeness we have experienced & ignorant dismissive attitude has been most off putting at a resort with so much to offer eg: staff getting orders wrong, no apologies, not helpful & have no way with the kids. Even the effort to get towels (which advertises 8.30am opening but doesn’t open till 9am & only one open for the whole resort simply not good enough ). No doubt it has tremendous facilities, beautiful beach but the lack of activities on offer for kids, adults & general simple manners of the staff leaves a lot to be desired & bad taste. Unfortunately I am sorry I will not be returning nor recommending.

In one word: 'Wow'! Everything is great around here. The staff is extremely nice. Especially at the O Grille Restaurant: Carlos, Luisa, Filipe, all so helpful and kind. They really make your stay pleasant. Also, the apartment we had was very nice. Clean, spacious and comfortable. The view at Mirador (where you can drink a nice glass of champagne) at the beach is amazing. We would definitely recommend and we will come back!

I can’t understand the bad reviews, ignore them!…..and definitely no snot nosed children! We had the most fantastic first family holiday at Pine Cliffs and are already thinking about booking it for next year. The hotel is simply superb. Check in was efficient and we were shown to our room straight away. We were in block Jasmim, a little walk from the main hotel but we enjoyed the walk each morning for breakfast. The room was just perfect for us with the sofa bed made up and child guards on the side, my daughter slept brilliantly. Lovely to have the fridge to keep cold drinks and the room was always so clean after housekeeping came each day. Breakfast was good, sit outside if you can, with a view of the pool and grounds as the service was a lot more attentive. We visited quite a few of the pools and the one we enjoyed the most was by O’Pescador as it had a nice shallow area for my daughter but also a nice atmosphere. Lunch or dinner at Corda Cafe was always very good and nice varied menu. Definitely try the buffet one night, although expensive , you get the shuttle buggy down and it’s a stunning area of the hotel and really good food, even a small kids buffet section. As a special birthday meal we booked the Piri Piri Steakhouse which was superb. Some of the best meat we’ve ever had. We took a trip out to Zoo Marine which was fun for the day and only 20 minutes away. The childrens park area at the hotel is just brilliant, with little scooters for them to all use, bouncy castle, swings and more. The indoor spa, again brilliant with warm pool, jacuzzi etc and my husband had a great massage. Every single member of staff was so friendly and helpful, nothing was ever a problem or to much to ask. I could go on and on about Pine Cliffs, we loved every minute and can’t wait to come back! Mr & Mrs Callow

Finishing a 5 night stay. Enormous resort with a beautifully manicured landscape. The bellhop and receptionist were super-friendly and helpful. While my request for 2-twin beds in the room was not honoured, the duplex room was great for my Mother and I to have space to spread out. My disappointment was with the restaurants: With a fussy vegetarian Mother who can't eat pizza, pasta and chips more than once or twice a month, it was a disappointment to see no vegetarian options of substance that appealed, nor any attempt to accommodate them. The buffet breakfast was disappointing. The heat lamps do little to keep the food warm so the poached eggs, baked beans, roasted tomatoes, bacon and sausages were tepid at best. Other tables were offered tea or coffee as they were being seated. My Mother and I were not offered coffee or tea at breakfast even once during our entire stay. It was difficult to get anyone's attention despite having loads of wait staff running around serving the families. Everyday, I had to get up and go to one of the coffee stations, and each time to be told "um momento" and no further follow-through. It took 2+ requests to get served coffee every morning. I even speak Brazilian Portuguese, but that didn't help the cause. While extremely expensive, the multitude of restaurants onsite seemed interesting for non-vegetarian options, however, I was unable to try them since I had to go offsite to hunt for vegetarian options for my Mother. At the restaurants, only the host at Mare on the beach, and the hostesses at the breakfast restaurant Jardim Colonial were friendly and helpful. The wait staff left a lot to be desired. I can't even say they are overworked, but they seemed to have plenty of time to make small talk with other tables around us. My Mother and I were consistently ignored the entire trip. Not sure what I did to deserve that as it was an embarrasment with my Mother, who I convinced to come to Portugal. The room should have had an iron and ironing board per the features on the website, but I had to request one from guest services. It arrived, but the ironing board had a broken spring so couldn't be assembled. The room has an espresso maker but no kettle for tea, so I had to request one of those too. Room cleaning was efficient, but sometimes inattentive with replenishment of shampoo and conditioner. I came to the Algarve to investigate vacation home investment options, however, this trip put me off altogether to even consider the region, let alone the residences available at the resort.

Dear Madhur R, Thank you for taking the time to let us know about the circumstances surrounding your recent visit. It is concerning to learn that you considered our associates to be disinterested and not customer friendly, as that is certainly not indicative of our well-known reputation. The feedback that we usually receive is extremely positive, being especially the friendliness of our staff, their warm and welcoming attitude and willingness to help praised by our guests. Please note that we foment, during our daily meetings, the genuine interest for each guest' needs and that is one of our key priorities. Please note that all feedback in important to us, as this gives us the opportunity to improve on our services. We have since shared your comments with the leadership team, who joins me in apologizing for the shortcomings experienced during your stay. Believing that we can do better, we hope that you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back to our resort so we can provide a more memorable experience. Warm regards, Guest Relations Team

This resort is beautiful, the staff is wonderful, the beach spectacular and the restaurants, the steak house and the seafood restaurant especially, were excellent. We were there for a jazz festival and the special events pavilion was comfortable and the sound was of course professional. Our room was cleaned diligently each day and we were particularly impressed with the grounds keeping crew who keep this beautiful location beautiful. All of the staff were wonderful, but we would like to especially mention Ruth, restaurant breakfast staff who was always so attentive and inviting. Also, Claudio, shuttle driver was particularly wonderful. Our entire experience was great, and I would highly recommend this resort.

I was part of a six-man group staying for a week to play tennis and get some early sun. We occupied Villa Aurora, M05, which was a pleasantly decorated four bedroom building with a fully equipped kitchen, a living room and a large heated swimming pool. The resort is huge and navigating one's way around it can be a challenge. There are several restaurants, bars, etc, clay and all-weather tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course and several public pools. Of its kind, it's fine, but I found it to be just too large and impersonal. We only ate breakfast on site, and the buffet was good without being sumptuous. I won't be returning, but for a group of golfers or tennis players who are not looking for real luxury or a personal touch, it is a good enough choice.

Dear TonySwiss, Thank you for have shared your thoughts on your recent stay at Pine Cliffs Resort. We are glad to know that you and your friends enjoyed your stay with us in Villa Aurora, thank you for sharing the best description of what our villas have to offer. Regarding the size of the resort. We do understand that guests may get overwhelmed with its size and the amount of facilities we have to offer. Indeed, being the Algarve the most demanded region of Portugal, as a destination for vacations, especially this year due to the lifting on coronavirus restrictions, it is operationally challenging to offer such personal service. In this sense, we do hope that in the future you can provide us another opportunity, maybe in a lower season, so you can fully enjoy our resort and the luxury it has to offer. Warm regards, Guest Relations Team

What a gorgeous place to spend a week. I visited this resort with my wife and our 3 year old and we all absolutely lived it. The 2 bed garden apartment we stayed in was fantastic and finished to very high spec, the staff at the resort are very helpful, the €20 per head breakfast is excellent value for the quality of food and the entire resort is immaculate in itself presentation. My only reason for nor giving it full 5 out of 5 is that I don't think the on site restaurants represent value for money, but there are many local eateries literally across the road. Highly recommended
