It was our first time at Pine Cliffs and we stayed in a two bedroom suite at the Residences. The suite was great size and loads of space, plus nicely equipped kitchen and utility room, the style of the entire place somehow dated but not too bad, the bed were comfortable and we slept well so not complaining about the style BUT: - no dishwasher tablets or washing products ( one tablet a day and some washing products would be great especially for the price you pay for the stay) - barely any sockets in there, with few behind furniture, so if you’re a family with multiple phones, iPads, iWatches etc bring an extension cable or you’re going to be juggling with the charging times. - the shampoos/shower gels could do with modernising as we’ve had few different types delivered to our room and it just looks messy and random (also for this price you’d expect something more from upper shelves) - the aircon is old and doesn’t give you the cold air you’d wish for at times (it keeps the rooms at comfortable temp but only when it’s on high speed which is quite noisy) - there’s few problems we’ve encountered like shower spraying everywhere but where it’s meant to, leaking sink in the kitchen which got fixed but you wouldn’t expect these in a “luxury” resort. The only issue we didn’t get solved was the terrace light which didn’t work. - you have to wait quite a while for everything, there’s not enough stuff for the number of guests and most of the stuff (also, apart from reception and waiters don’t speak a word of English) - the TV is aged and could do with updating so you could log in to your streaming services - there’s no entertainment in the evenings and the village outside doesn’t provide any either so you’re left to entertain yourself - breakfast in on the cheap side with quite reduced selection of products so to make it look better you’ll find two massive bowls of each fruit and two trays of croissants (it does look full when you first look but on closer inspection there’s very little to choose from) plus there’s only one omelette/egg station so the queues are massive. Also the omelette station is outside so you get to see tens of wasps walking all over the ingredients - the biggest problem that we’ve experienced was the cleaner we’ve had!!! On one of the days we left the “do not disturb” sign on the door when we headed for breakfast and what did we find on our arrival back? The cleaner in the room, doing her job! We didn’t complain as maybe the sign magically came off somehow but the next day we’re in the room with the sign on the door and she rung the bell and then was just about the enter the room when I got to the door! I mean that’s unacceptable even in 3* hotel!!! What if I was doing my naked yoga or having some quality time with my other half??? We complained and the next day we had a different cleaner but the aftertaste is still there… On the plus note: - the grounds are amazing and in great shape - the atmosphere at the resort is lovely, no pretentiousness (like you can find in Sani for example) great majority of guests are Brits or Americans and it’s all relaxed and lovely - the spa offers great services - the beach if breathtaking - the kids club looks amazing (our kid is too old for that) - tennis/paddle courts are great way to keep busy All in all we’ve had great stay and will be coming back but please look into the issues I’ve mentioned as this place could be top notch if the management got more involved… I wish Pine Cliffs all the best and I can see the that potential is there but there’s some work to be done.

Lovely room (Block S7 top floor) in the residences, lovey pool, lovely staff, very clean and well maintained and staff we very responsive if you needed something. The grounds overall are huge and very well looked after. Ubers also come direct to the room blocks if you are going out for the day/ night so no need to shuttle up to the entrance. No issues with shuttle either came within 10 mins when called or turned up at reception pretty quickly. Most of the walkways also have some shade coverage at points which made walking and jogging around the grounds quite pleasant. Managed at least 15000 steps most days which went some way to counter the enormous breakfasts. Breakfast is a good standard and good choice. Bar staff are very helpful and service is quick at the OBar. Piri piri was very nice and family friendly. Shop at residences good for water and snacks. Eating lunch and dinner is an expensive way to do it when not doing half board - but prices are not out of proportion versus other hotels, it’s convenient and food was pretty good in the clubhouse, o grill, corda cafe, o bar and zest. There were lots of options outside the hotel within a 20 min walk of S7 (or 5 mins walk of main hotel) and there is a great supermarket just at the entrance which makes it pretty easy to self cater for those meals where you don’t want to eat as much. It’s a lovely walk down to the beach too and we had no issues getting space on the beach and the facilities (showers, fresh towels and deckchairs or loungers) are pretty good down there. The pool facilities at the residences are also good and there are loads of other pools to chose from (although we didn’t need to move). If you want a good sun lounger on the front row of the pool it is worth getting your towel down before breakfast but there was always some space free and plenty of umbrellas so getting a seat in the shade in was never an issue. The kids (8&4) enjoyed the pool party (free) and some the other activities on the programme like air trampoline, mini golf, cars and paintball target practice (all priced between £5-10 a go) and the reptile show (free but optional photo £8-10). There was also a bouncy castle and playground (free) in the shade that passed a few hours. We also rented a pedals for an hour on the beach which was really fun. Only let down was the kids club childcare - we were told it was musical theme that session but the kids said they hadn’t really done anything in the 3 hour session (and my 4yo is normally very enthusiastic about these things) . We paid about £35 for each child and were told by our kids they had just sat around watching the babies and no activities had really been done with them (it was a bit boring!). Fortunately with the pool and other activities we didn’t really need to use it again and when we walked past on other days we did see kids on other sessions doing activities. So perhaps just check with the staff what specific activity is planned for that session before you book. Overall a really lovely family holiday, nice setting, nice staff

An excellent two weeks with the family at Pine Cliffs. Stayed in a 2 bedroom garden suite which had two bathrooms, nice balcony and good kitchen facilities. Garden suites have a nice pool near by but are also close enough to main hotel areas. Preferred to go to the larger pool next to the O’Grill restaurant for easy lunch access! Resort has lovely restaurants, something for everyone, but only a short walk out of the resort takes you to another 10 or so restaurants - Indian, tapas, Italian, burgers etc if you fancy a change or want to save some money! Plus there is a supermarket right opposite the main entrance. The sandy Beach stretches for miles and you have free access to sun beds via a lift or stairs from the resort where you can also book kayaks, jet skis, etc. Mare beach restaurant a real treat for either lunch or dinner. We arrived at midday and room not ready until 16:00 which was a very slight inconvenience - but next time will be better organised so we can get some shorts etc from the luggage to get straight into holiday mode. Key for me: high standards of facilities, lovely service, number of pools/ restaurants, close access to beach, but also easy access to restaurants outside the resort. I also liked how big the resort was - took a few days to get our bearings and find the short cuts!

Overall this isn't a bad place in terms of everything is fixable if they had a stronger management team. Plenty that's good but plenty where we and other guests felt let down given the cost. If you are after a family resort that is similar to a Sani or Ikos this isn't it, far from sadly. Cons: - the Shuttle: Biggest one by a country mile is the shuttle system (or more specifically lack of) and this is all you're hear anyone moan about. The resort is spread out which we actually saw as a positive, but it's only a positive if you have an efficient transport system and this is where Pine Cliffs totally fails. You're told that you can order the shuttle at anytime (great if it turns up, you'll find it doesn't and if it does it's a 25 minute wait - doesn't matter how patient you are, when this consistently happens day in day out you're going to be angry). Turns out they used to have a shuttle train that ran continuously around the resort (rather than the insufficient mercedes vans that can only carry 7 people at a time) but since Covid they have not replaced the driver (needs a separate licence and guess what a driver costs slightly more than a bellboy - herein lies the common problem we encountered - shortcuts to save money). You'll find the train sitting dormant within the resort by the football pitch to remind you that your holiday could be a lot better if they spent money on a driver's wage :) - Reservation system: you can't reserve any restaurants outside 6 and 7.30pm in any of the restaurants so if you're a family or group any bigger than 4 you are in for a long wait for a table if you don't eat in this time window which is never ideal if you have young children. - Tennis courts: If you enjoy tennis then you won't be able to book a Court in the morning - they are all booked out for lessons in the morning - enjoy the midday heat instead. - Customer Service : I hadn't complained and was probably going to leave it until I was asked in a very presumptuous way as I checked out whether we'd had a great time. I said we'd made the most of it but we wouldn't be back to which the receptionist correctly asked why not. Once I outlined the above he said he was sorry and that someone would be in contact asap (he took my number and mobile) as clearly this wasn't good enough. That was 10 days ago - heard nothing. Pros: - Accommodation was spacious and clean - Staff - despite the Reception (see above) on the whole a lot of the staff were accommodating and outstanding in terms of being welcome and hospitable. - Facilities - generally very good, gym, pools, golf course, restaurants, grounds all well looked after

Accommodation was good, ….. rooms were very nice and comfortable. Coastal cliffs and beach are very impressive. However, Residences/luxury collection were way too far from the main hotel...and the shuttle was erratic and unreliable so lots and lots of walking was required which is fine I suppose but it was very hot at times and totally impractical for people with compromised mobility as a lot of the walking is uphill. Also fairly small bar/restaurant area serving residences area of the resort so very busy all the time and sometimes overcrowded. Very little night time entertainment for older teenagers and adults . Maybe deliberate as resort seemed to be heavily geared towards families with younger children or families looking to engage in daytime sporting activities. I was with two older teenagers who together with myself and my wife were constantly looking for some bar vibe or live entertainment ,...…but nothing on that front so we drunk at the bar which was very quiet, or retired to bed early. There's also a big square/piazza at the Hotel which could be a vibrant bustling area to enjoy, especially at night....but it is dead and ghostly at night, and is only serviced during the day by a few day times cafes and shops...… Also beware...., arrived in the midday heat from the UK and had to wait for 4 hours before our room was ready and consequently had to open the suitcase and change in to lighter attire because of the heat ,....changed in the toilet.... so not the greatest start to an expensive luxury holiday !..... Very unlikely I would visit again unless I was playing golf or tennis, and if that was the case I would stay in the ocean suites or the hotel itself and definitely not the residences.

Dear 641duncan, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent stay with us. We are very happy to learn that you found the rooms to be very nice and comfortable, and you enjoyed the impressive coastal cliffs and beach. However, we understand your concerns about the location of the Pine Cliffs Residences being too far from the main hotel. We strive to provide the best service to all our guests, although given that the Resort is in its busiest time of the year, some delays are expected at peak times of our Resort Shuttle. Although, we understand that due to the hot weather walking can become impractical. As July is our peak season, it is operationally challenging for us to able to provide an early check-in due to back to back reservations. Our housekeeping team does try their very best to have each accommodation prepared for check-in time, however on occasion there might be a slight delay. Additionally, we provide a safe room to store the guest's luggage and changing room facilities at the gym, if guest's wish to get changed before the room becomes ready. Pine Cliffs is an awarded Family Resort, therefore you will find several activities for children and families. Nonetheless, and during summer, we also provide activities for adults, such as music nights and cooking classes. Although, we would like to thank you for your suggestion, which has been shared with management for further review. Rest assured that we will keep working on providing each day our best service and we would be extremely happy to welcome you back again. Sincerely, Guest Relations Team

This is a huge resort. The positives are that the grounds, gardens and pools are beautiful and very well kept. The beach below the resort is wonderful and well laid out with sun beds for the guests of the resort. We stayed for a week in the hotel and I noticed particularly that the communal areas were kept spotlessly clean. The staff everywhere were delightful. However, I have to agree with an earlier review that this is not a resort suitable for a couple seeking a quiet holiday. Even in early July it was mainly inhabited with families with children and the pools were busy with young children and sun beds reserved by people leaving towels on them for hours. Given the huge size of the resort and the cost of our room, nearly 500 euros per night with breakfast, I would have expected an adults only pool. There is little that is Portuguese about this resort and were it not for the lovely Portuguese tiles throughout, one could be forgiven for thinking that one was in America. This was especially so when looking at the menus at the restaurants (American fare) and a space reserved for a tip at the end of the bill. The breakfast was not what I would expect for a luxury hotel. It was a large scale buffet, self service, with insipid coffee from a machine. Having been visiting Portugal for some 40 years one of the things that I have always looked forward to is the wonderful coffee. Sadly, not produced by the coffee machines at breakfast. We had a large bedroom. However, it had an interconnecting door with the room next door and one night we were kept awake by loud conversations from the adjoining room and then at 7am next morning. I complained to reception and was told nearly all the rooms are interconnected, presumably for families. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room but the first day housekeeping didn’t replace the milk, second day English teabags weren’t replaced and towards the end of the week the shower gel wasn’t replaced. Again towards the end of the week bird droppings appeared on the chair on the balcony but this was not cleaned which was disappointing. Whilst there was a tv in the room, what particularly disappointed us was that, despite the majority of guests being British, the only British channel was Sky news. Whilst we don’t come on holiday to watch tv, we particularly wanted to watch the Wimbledon Men’s final but there was no channel that showed it. To summarise, for the reasons given above coupled with the fact the resort is too large to be classed as luxury, in my view it merits just four stars.

Dear Rafandle, Firstly, we wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for choosing our resort for your vacation and for providing us with valuable feedback regarding your last stay. We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed the beauty of our grounds, gardens, and pools. Our team takes great pride in maintaining the resort's aesthetics to create a pleasant and serene atmosphere, and we are delighted that our efforts resonated with you. Furthermore, we completely understand and value your comments concerning the number of children. As an awarded family-friendly resort, we do tend to see an increased number of families, especially during peak holiday. In this sense, we regret that the lively atmosphere did not align with your preference for a quieter and more relaxed vacation. We would like to invite you to visit us outside of the high season, and you will be amazed with the peaceful and serene environment that you can find. As every Luxury Collection property, we take immerse pride in displaying the heritage of Portugal throughout the handmade tiles, the arches reminiscent of Arabic influence, the furnishings inspired by a typical Portuguese home that were carefully chosen to create an immersive environment for our guests. We induced this across our gastronomic options as well. For example, at O Pescador you can find typical Portuguese dishes , such as Seafood Cataplana, Octopus "Lagareiro" style, as well as freshly captivated oysters and fish from Ria Formosa. On another side, we have our MIMO- Cooking School that offers to our guests an insight of the Portuguese cuisine by organizing cooking lessons. By night, on Thursdays, our MIMO transforms and serves unique and local food pairings made from national products. Nonetheless, we are truly disappointed that you have encountered some inconveniences, including the breakfast, interconnecting accommodations, housekeeping service, as well as TV channels. Please be assured that your feedback will be shared with our management teams as we continuously strive to improve and enhance the experience we offer to our guests. We sincerely hope that you will consider giving us another opportunity to welcome you back. If you decide to visit us again, please do not hesitate to contact us directly, and we will be delighted to assist you in planning a stay that better aligns with your preferences and expectations. Sincerely, Guest Relations Team

Nice hotel, nice grounds and the beach is lovely. Pools aren’t heated , would have expected this for a 5* child friendly hotel. You have to pay for kids club which are expensive and they aren’t great! On our last day I had some money that went missing. It was in the zip of my travelling bag the whole time which was in the same place in the room for the whole holiday and on the last day it went missing. We told the hotel management who couldn’t care less because the money wasn’t in the safe. It was about £75 so not huge amounts of money but it was the principal and not what you expect in a 5* hotel!

Dear Anonymous8097, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent stay at Pine Cliffs Resort. We are so happy to read that the hotel and its location pleased you and suited your needs! The beach, accessible by a panoramic elevator, is indeed lovely and with unique views of our orange cliffs. The resort offers 7 outside swimming pools and 1 indoor heated pool. Furthermore, a baby pool is available at Porto Pirata, our kids club, where children can be looked after and enjoy dynamic activities with our teams. We truly regret about the experience you describe regarding the missing pounds. We would like to invite you to contact our Guest Relations Team through guest.relations@pinecliffs.com. We strongly believe that the management opened an investigation, nonetheless, will be at your disposal for further clarifications. Our team looks forward to have the pleasure of welcoming you back! It is a large resort with a variety of accommodation; we were staying in one of the self-catering townhouses that run in a 'street' from the hotel to the exit. It was highly satisfactory, well furnished and equipped, with a choice of pleasant spaces in which to relax. We spent a lot of time on the patio, which looked into the gardens. One of the incidental delights was the bird life - including an owl - whose calls could be heard constantly. We were conveniently close to the exit and therefore the supermercado and a choice of restaurants, bars and cafes. We mostly ate out: a couple of lunches in the resort - lovely setting, indifferent food. You accept that in the cliff-top champagne bar you are paying for the spectacular view. In brief, the setting/grounds are splendid, the accommodation excellent, the staff friendly, helpful and efficient - shame about the catering.
