VidaMar Resort Algarve is an excellent option for an Algarve holiday, at just steps from the ample sandy stretch of Salgados Beach! The surrounding area is uniquely interesting, mixing proximity to Salgados Lagoon’s Nature Reserve, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and just a few minutes' drive from a golf course! As the name suggests, this resort is much more than just a beach holiday destination! The idea is patently clear in the resort’s, which combines “Life” and “Sea”, added to a complete range of services! The rooms are well equipped, with balconies, free WiFi and plenty of comfort. Each unit comes with a bathroom — featuring plenty of natural light — including a flat-screen TV, air conditioning and a minibar. A tasty daily breakfast is included in the rate, with the hotel also including restaurant options for lunch and dinner within it. VidaMar Algarve also includes bars, a Kids Club, and an exclusive area for guests over 16 years old.

We stayed at the VidaMar for 11 nights. The primary reason for the trip was a family wedding, at the VidaMar. We arrived late on a Saturday evening, following a delay to our flight, the transfer was around 45/60 minutes. The reception area is large and well presented with the accommodations accessed corridors either side of the reception area. Check in was straight forward and the staff member who checked us in was polite and informative of all the issues we needed to know for the coming days. We paid an upgrade for a room over looking the pool which was situated on the first floor. The room was a good size well presented. Decent sized bed. Bathroom was of a good size with power shower. There was a decent number of power outlets for charging purposes. In room safe, which was easy to set up, balcony with table and chairs with a nice view of grounds looking towards the beachfront. The day to day house keeping teams were hard working in all areas of the hotel. From your room to the halls, reception and the outside areas. We had no issues with our room through out the time we stayed and were impressed with the level of cleanliness and presentation on a daily bases. We only stayed bed and breakfast. We found this to be of a good standard. Large selections of pastries, cereal, fruit, cooked meats and cheeses. The cooked elements were of a good standard. Including bacon, scrambled eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes and a short order cook who did fresh omelettes and fried eggs to order. The pool area was kept clean and presentable. You are given cards for pool towels which you exchange each day. There is a poolside bar and restaurant for drinks and light meals. Which was again well staffed and it’s menu was simple but adequate for a light meal during the day. You could either sit at a table or have your food in takeaway containers at the poolside. There are three pools well spaced out. The only issue the was the age of the sun loungers. There is access to the beach which has a bar and restaurant a short walk away. The beach is clean and had a mixture of locals and tourists. As other reviews there is only one bar, located in the reception area. It closes at midnight. Even though there were queues sometimes, the bar staff always worked hard and the prices were not overly expensive. The spa is on the lower floor and has a separate pool. We had a treatment each and was more than happy with the standard of our session. There is a small shop on the lower which is very limited. However there is a supermarket within ten minutes walk of the hotel with a decent selection of all day to day items you may need to during your stay. The VidaMar is situated 10 minutes from the marina and 15 minutes from the old town. Uber are available or the reception are happy to call you a taxi if you prefer. Usually wait time is 10/15 minutes so bear this in mind when making plans. The VidaMar is a nice hotel in a quiet area. The staff are hard working and engaging. The food (breakfast) is of a decent standard. We had no issues with any elements of our stay and would be happy to stay there again in the future. Elements of the resort were not open simple because they are not needed. Due to the reduced numbers that are currently visiting. As I said we attended a family wedding at the VidaMar. The service and reception went off perfectly and everyone had a fantastic experience. Again staff worked hard and made sure that everyone’s needs were met. We wish all the team at the VidaMar well and thank them for a very enjoyable holiday.

The resort is sprawling and has all of the amenities that you would expect, but where they received their “5 star” rating that they tout is beyond me. The room was spacious and comfortable. Check in was fine. We had a relatively late check in and we were hungry so we called to make sure that we could eat at the buffet dinner, we were told to hurry because last seating was being completed. Arrived to chaos, our service was left to a confused bus boy who asked us to write out our drink orders and tried his best as he tried to find a “head master” who never came. Bugs were terrible outside so we moved indoors which created more confusion with servers. The atmosphere resembled a mid level ski resort food court. Meanwhile, diners were seated for another hour after we were told that seating was closed and we were lucky to get in. Overall dining at the buffet was disappointing at best. Regarding our room, it was comfortable to be sure, but the room safe did not work and plumbing for the water saving toilets was also not working correctly which doesn’t seem to reach 5 star level. We did enjoy our time at the walkway accessible beach, but the beach is not private, cabanas are run by an outside company and open to the public. Overall, this a nice, affordable family resort, but does not approach “5 stars.”

Situated about 40mins from Faro airport (bolt app it cost €38 in a taxi solo) Amazing drive upto the hotel, nice welcome on arrival. Got given my key and dinner was still being served so I went straight for food. Plenty of options but a lot of fish.. room is amazing!! Best bed I’ve ever slept in. Amazing throughout! I did have a toilet issue which it kept running and I reported it to reception which took 4 visits before they sent someone so I went hours without a working toilet. It kept breaking throughout my stay but the staff at reception didn’t seem to do anything about it I.e move me rooms. I attended a wedding at the hotel and it was incredible! Magical! The ceremony, buffet dinner option dj & fire works! Would highly recommend as a wedding venue! Indoor facilities are amazing a gym, beauty salon, indoor pool and a spa at extra cost! The outdoor pool is amazing and there are kiddie pool areas. Fantastic throughout and loved my stay

We booked a few months ago and I was a bit nervous about the recent negative reviews I had seen just before we left however we had a great holiday. The rooms are high quality and spacious even with two additional beds in there for our kids. Cleanliness was good and we had no issues with house-keeping. There was a big balcony to sit on in the evening and watch the sun going down, we had a partial sea view room on a higher floor. Three outdoor pools, one heated, and an indoor heated pool all of which we swam in a lot. Maybe the pools were cold earlier in the year but they were definitely not too cold when we were there. The highlight is the setting with the palm trees and the lovely five minute walk down to the open, largely empty, beach. We tended to spend the morning down at the beach (and after dinner) and afternoon by the pools. The kids enjoyed walking on the boardwalk across the road from the hotel through the wetlands and we even saw some small turtles swimming there. We ate lunch at the pool bar and at a couple of places on the beach. We thought breakfast was pretty good with a decent selection including pastries, bread, cheeses, meats, smoked salmon, fresh fruit, cereals, seeds, omelettes, scrambled eggs, sausages, fruit juice and coffee machine. The buffet dinner was the only thing that let it down for us. It was pretty much what we were expecting and was similar to buffets in other hotels we have stayed in but after a few days it was repetitive and the food often was quite bland. It was quite convenient with young children however who loved the ice cream cart so they were happy. All the staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, and kind to our children as well. There was one slight issue with the indoor pool which we spoke to management about and they resolved it swiftly and sent some treats up to our room.

Very spacious , clean and friendly hotel. Following their reopening I was open minded of what could be in store. This was a family break in the sun and after staying at the Vidamar in Madeira a couple of times that was great we were curious to try Portugal. The complex is great with three good swimming pools for all to enjoy. The palm trees that surround the hotel provides a great setting and the Ocean which is not too far away is a added bonus with the large and long beautiful beaches. Our family room was nice, modern enough and comfortable for the four of us. A couple of problems with auto filling what had been used but it soon got resolved. Breakfast and evening buffet was good but, very repetitive with the the main foods. The Italian restaurant in a good location and staff really nice but, menu limited fir now due to COVID and going through licensing process for certain items which is normal. I am sure in time this will get resolved and the restaurant will be at full capacity. All in all you couldn’t help notice some gaps in the service due to a lack of staff which again is a result of COVID which will resolve itself in time. Disappointed however by having to pay for the kids club and no sport areas for tennis, football etc. We will return as the hotel is good overall.

Transfers were horrible! Coach couldn’t/wouldn’t go to the main door so we were forced to pull our cases 100m up a cobbled road on arrival and then down 150m to a roundabout at the end of our visit! We are 75 and 82 and fortunately quite fit, but this is beyond a joke. The hotel did nothing to help! This hotel is a 15 euro cab to anywhere! It is beautifully situated but is quite off the beaten track. It is a very inflexible hotel in all sorts of ways. For example: the pool is 75m x 25m which sounds wonderful, but I think most people were intimidated by the size as there were never more than 6 people swimming at any one time! A great shame! There is just nothing to do and they won’t allow any inflatables in the pool, so no fun allowed! There is a rather large rule book that we were shown by the attendants. It’s a long, though beautiful, walk to the beach which had about 4 people on it! Breakfast was one of the highlights, however. I have rarely had better anywhere in the world. Everything is available! There is an evening buffet and only one other Italian restaurant on site. This is closed 3 evenings a week so not a lot of choice! There is, however, a beautiful restaurant about a 10 minute walk away. It is by the sea and is fabulous but quite expensive. The only area to sit in is in the dismal foyer. This is where there was a singer 3 nights a week. This was the only entertainment and was in the reception area where people were coming and going all the time! The room we had was lovely and of a high standard though everything had to be asked for, even milk for the coffee! Would I stay there again. I doubt it. Just not enough to do!

Our first impression was really good, but only lead to ultimate disappointments. The rooms are spacious and well laid out, but for a 5 star hotel you expect the daily cleaning to be more thorough and consistent. Tea cups were sometimes left uncleaner, sheets were not changed for four days, balconies not always swept etc.. Some of the advertised and promoted facilities were, to our surprise, not open every day. The Mar Club, a nice quiet area with pool, turned out to be closed Monday to Thursday, and the Italian restaurant, only alternative to the disorganised, overcrowded and understaffed buffet, was not open Monday and Tuesday evenings. We only learnt this when we tried to book! Cost cutting by management is evident. Either the season has started or it hasn’t! Tomorrow is the first of June, after all. Staff are generally very friendly and helpful, so much of this is not their fault, but if you claim to be a 5star hotel, you should deliver on your promises.

This was our second stay here, we just had a long weekend at Vidamar for our 1st anniversary. It's a fantastic hotel, we love the location especially with the beach access to our favourite beach. Our room was fantastic with a great view of the sea, the palm trees and the massive pool. I love that the pool is not overcrowded with sunbeds, there's plenty of space. Good, friendly staff always helpful. The hotel is nice and secure including secure parking The only thing that let's it down for us is the food. The hot breakfast selection was quite cold and not the best quality, we remembered we didn't love dinner at the buffet restaurant last time we stayed so we opted to eat out this time, especially as there are so many nice restaurants about.

Functional hotel that doesn’t function. Awful ambience. Only bar is in the lobby. Queues for a drink for more than 15 minutes. Sunset bear that closes before sunset !!! Restaurant has no atmosphere and you are expected at a ‘sitting’. I have travelled around the world and stayed at many ‘starred’ hotels. This is definitely not 5* - more like 3*. Only saving grace are the rooms ( Premium overlooking pool) - Too expensive for what you get. Ok for weddings and golf. Do not go here if you think it’s a holiday resort. It isn’t.

Could be so good but for a supposed 5 star let’s itself down. Staff are great but adult only pool only open 4 days a week so with lots of kids no escape. Restaurant staff good but food just buffet so lots of standing in line waiting. Beautiful location. How did you get 5 stars!! Had to complain about housekeeping levels too. Disappointing. Sorry. Started well. Deteriorated.
