Hotel do Cerro is well-regarded for its superb location, nestled close to the beach and the charm of the old town, with easy access to public transport, despite mentions of an uphill trek. The staff's warm service garners high praise, contributing to a pleasant stay. While amenities like the pristine pools and satisfying breakfast are highlights, some guests find the entertainment and gym to be lacking. The rooms offer comfort, space, and delightful sea views, even if some report subpar soundproofing and dated decor. The atmosphere strikes many as stylish and inviting, with live music adding to the ambiance. The hotel's cleanliness stands out, with meticulous rooms and grounds. In terms of value, guests find the hotel reasonable, though some note additional fees for certain services.

Stayed at Hotel Do Cerro last week, just after Portugal was removed from the Covid restriction list for England. Booked this property due to the star rating and all the amenities. When we arrived there was only Claudia on reception who was very pleasant but also very nervous about Covid. We were informed that breakfast was by the pool and were given slips to order our breakfast and had to choose a time. The hotel was nicely furnished and spotlessly clean. We weren’t told that the restaurant was closed or the roof top bar but noticed signs so asked and was told they hoped to open them next year, as all the restaurants in the town were open this came as a surprise. The pool area was nice although some beds need replacing. Pools could do with a good scrub or grout replacing. Pool bar manager was very polite and efficient but the other staff seemed very inexperienced. Breakfast was poor, very limited choice and we didn’t discover for a few days that you could ask for yoghurt and toast. The manager did however provide gluten free rolls for my partner which was appreciated. The pool bar is poorly stocked and closed as soon as dinner service was over, so if you were dining that was about 9pm but if not you couldn’t get a drink after 7pm. We asked for ice for drinks in our room but there wasn’t any. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in your room, to hire a kettle was 1 Euro per day but you had to provide your own tea, coffee and milk. No information was given to us about welcome meetings and we only discovered there was a Jet2 file behind reception when we bumped into the rep.
It appeared that the hotel had reopened before it was ready with minimal staff and although they were all pleasant Fawlty Towers springs to mind.
It’s a ten minute walk to town down steep streets through an area where the streets needed cleaning and some properties were dilapidated.
All in all we were very disappointed due to many areas of the hotel being closed so didn’t think it was worth the money.

We would like to thank you for your comments because they help us to improve our service. To comply with the Covid-19 rules/laws imposed by the Health Authorities to keep guests and staff well and safe there are services that had to be closed. However all drinks and meals from Breakfast to Dinner including Snacks during the day are served outdoors around the pool in a very safe atmosphere. We are not nervous but we take this matter very seriously in the whole Algarve where there are very few cases. We hope to see you in the future without any restrictions for you to fully enjoy your holiday. Kind regards from Hotel do Cerro Team

Just returned from a weeks holiday at this hotel. The hotel is in what seems to be a quiet part on the outskirts of the old town which is about a 10/15 minute walk away. It was also very quiet due to the current situation, sunbeds were always available and we practically had the pool to ourselves. We felt very safe staying here, with Covid restrictions they were very keen on. Masks must been worn whilst inside, lots of hand sanitisers throughout. Breakfast was around the pool which was nice as the weather was red hot. The hotel and rooms were spotless. The room was also very nice. Found all staff to pleasant and polite. It was unfortunate we didnt get to see the full hotel and most of it was closed. Would definitely recommend and hopefully we will be back soon. The only downfall is a steep hill up towards the hotel. Overall a pleasant stay.

Having read some reviews we were sceptical. However, we found a warm welcome, very clean hotel and a relaxing atmosphere. It suited exactly what we wanted - an escape after a very stressful time, a chance to relax and recuperate. The rooms are comfortable, okay, continental pillows are hard, but that’s not the fault of the hotel. The indoor pool requires a hat, so do most indoor pools in Portugal. The outdoor pool area is a sun trap! Lovely relaxing area, even when not in summer! Drinks in the bar are reasonably priced - it would be nice if the hotel entered the 21st century and allowed you to tab the night or the week, but it’s cash for each drink, a bit of a pain. Yes, you do have to find the bar person, perhaps the receptionist , sitting next to the bar, could be trained to serve drinks, to avoid two flights of stairs to find the barman! The food is okay, some nights better than others, avoid the vegetable lasagne! There are two starters and two mains plus an ‘additional’ menu with about ten or twelve choices, don’t expect the cottage pie to be English, Portuguese chefs are cooking it, but it’s a tasty dish. Some of the local specialities were not to our taste, but we were offered something else. Yes, it’s an uphill walk from the beach, but so is most of Albufeira, especially the old town. But the taxis are inexpensive It is not a children’s hotel, but most families research this and look for lots of children’s activities on site. The owner is a lovely lady, she and her management are trying hard to put their problems right and welcome feedback, refreshing to see. Would we return, undoubtably! By the way, the ‘school run’ is much quieter than most primary schools in England - we overlooked the school and were never disturbed. Thank you to the hotel staff for a lovely break.

Last minute booking due to Covid and risk of quarantine. Decided to take the risk. Hotel turned out to be a little Gem!
Hotel was spotless, all Covid precautions and rules were adhered to both by staff and other residents, making the whole experience a bearable necessity.
We felt safe and relaxed.
Staff were polite and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
Special mention to the Receptionist Claudia who checked us in, she was so welcoming and informative
Nice touch on checking out, presented with a handwritten post card thanking us for trusting them with our booking in these uncertain times.

We were apprehensive as my partner needs gluten free food and we were half board, but the staff were ultra careful about the food she was offered.
This is a lovely hotel, with an unusual geometry; an unseen tunnel connects 2 parts of the building. There's a lot of traditional Portuguese sculptures and paintings throughout; the hotel is classy .
All the staff we interacted with were friendly, efficient, helpful, knowledgeable, lovely people.
Don't be put off by the hillside location; we found an easy walking route to the old town via relatively gentle slopes, a 10 - 15 minute walk past the Victoria Sports bar, on the same street.
Our room, 314, was beautiful, bright; view of the beach air conditioned, the tv actually had itv and BBC stations plus sky news. I've never stayed in a hotel abroad or in England 🇬🇧 where there is constant hot water 💧 regardless of time of day or night but it was constant hot water here, fabulous...
Reception staff were exceptionally helpful with information and arranging excursions, all spoke excellent English.
Entertainment in the bar was not every night but often enough, and was very interactive, I was delighted to have the opportunity to get up and play guitar and sing one night.
Food wise, plenty of choice for evening dinners which need to be ordered at breakfast time; this was an easy thing though. Meals including breakfast, are served by staff, not a buffet situation, but we found this added a personal touch, and there was always a good selection of food available.
Drinks are more expensive than in the bars of the old town, so if you like alcohol I would recommend going all inclusive here if available .
Lovely, quiet pool, with snacks and drinks available all day.
A road train that stops outside Reception every 40 minutes, goes to the Marina and also the Old Town, very handy, and a lovely way to get around.
There's a really good supermarket just 10 minutes walk down the road towards the marina.
We loved this hotel, for the friendliness and helpfulness of staff, its superb level of cleanliness , its classy traditional Portuguese theme/s, its location too (yes up above the old town, hill side, but so much more central for everything than a staff near the marina or any other area of this large town.
From this hotel its a maximum of 15 minute walk to a superb beach, has to be one of the best public beaches in Europe.
You'll love this hotel, we hope to return at some point. Thanks to all the staff for giving us a wonderful holiday.

We stayed here for 9 nights at the end of September/start of October.
Our stay was excellent, from arrival to leaving. I can't remember all the names of the staff, so will just say that every member of staff that we had reason to engage with was pleasant, polite, and helpful.
We paid a little extra to upgrade to a sea view, and all I can say is, Do It, it's definitely worth it. The view from our balcony was excellent.
Our room was spacious, clean, and well appointed, and was cleaned every day.
The pool area was clean and tidy and, the snack bar served a very good choice of tasty snacks at reasonable prices.
All the public areas were kept clean, and the bar served a good variety of reasonably priced drinks. There was also entertainment on most evenings.
We stayed B&B so cannot comment on the evening meals at the restaurant.
The breakfast arrangements were not what most people (British) will be used to, but were simple enough to order, it was a continental breakfast and was served at the tables and was enough to set you up for the day. Yes, you had to pre order the day before and select a time slot, not too much of a problem. Remember, you're in Portugal at a Portuguese run hotel, so expect some local rules.
The hotel is, as many have said, situated at the top of a hill, about a 15 minute walk from the old town square, It is a steady climb back to the hotel, but not that strenuous (for this 62yr old) or his slightly younger wife.
There are a couple of decent bars on the walk back to ease the pain and relax the tired muscles.
It is also close to the marina, a 20/25 minute walk in the opposite direction to the old town. Alternatively there is a 'tourist train' stop outside the hotel, which will take you via the marina and then back to the old town. It' worth buying a full day ticket which covers the 2 routes on this train and costs 7 euro per person allowing travel all day until around 11.30pm.
All in all we had an excellent holiday and this is an excellent hotel and value for money.
If we holiday in Albufeira again then we will definitely consider staying here again.
Thank you for the stay.
Mike & Jackie.

Away from the hustle and bustle of the old town centre, in the sleepy quiet streets the Hotel do Cerro overlooks all that is beautiful about Albufeira.

The climb up to the hill each evening and steps to 'the captains' room are not for the faint hearted but worth every step. We had wisely invested in a sea view room and were rewarded tenfold with stunning views of the beach and out to the Atlantic Ocean as well as spectacular sunrises each morning.

Reception staff were warm, welcoming and offered lots of local knowledge.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel do Cerro and recommend it to all able bodied travellers (that uphill climb really is something) or those happy to get a taxi for the short journey to town.

Just back from a really nice stay at this hotel. Just a warning if your not good on your feet this hotel is on a steep incline from the old town.
We arrived at 12.00 and our room was ready, always a good start.
The room was spotless and was what we had paid for. The hotel is superclean, even checked under the bed on our last day and the floor was pristine.
I noticed some negative comments regarding breakfast, we had no problems with the breakfast. We ordered it when we sat down and it was bought to your table. Not too keen on buffet breakfasts, too many dirty hands touching the spoons and people coughing over the food. This was much more civilised. Okay some days you had to wait a bit but the staff were all very helpful. Never left the breakfast room hungry. We managed to have breakfast outside every day for a week, it was great.
The poolbar was also very good, no glasses by the pool the a large beer was about 4 euros.
The wifi was good all around the hotel but capped at 3mbs download speed, fine for me.
Overall a great stay, would return but probably not in peak season.
Optonal extras charges for safe , 2 euros a day, kettle 1 euro a day and a charge for the indoor pool and gym.

Stayed here for a week at the end of August. A pleasant peaceful clean hotel in a great location ten minutes walk to old town (tip go left out the hotel avoid the first right which is a steep hill and walk along the next right which is less steep). Staff friendly and hardworking. The pool area is nice and very laid back, no issues getting a sunbed. There was entertainment but the main bar area was so quiet with hardly anyone there so we went in once for an hour. I was kept awake one or two nights with loud guests coming back to the hotel in the small hours which was a bit of a pain since it went on for hours. If I was looking to party then this wouldn’t be a hotel I’d choose, more suited to couples and families which suited us. Minor negatives are the extra charges for use of the gym, indoor swimming and kettle this shouldn’t be the case for a 4* hotel. The breakfast wasn’t great with minimal
choice, small portions and a complicated process. These points didn’t ruin my stay and I would recommend staying at this hotel. I believe if these things could be improved it would make this hotel excellent rather than good. Good restaurants in the area I’d mention are O David’s and cafe iguanas. Albuferia is a nice place and I’m glad I visited it’s less tacky than your main holiday resorts.

Located up a side street first impressions on arrival were positive - very friendly and helpful staff ( particularly Alex on reception) and excellent house keeping. Our room was situated on the third floor and the lift was only available to the second floor so we had to carry our own cases up two flight of stairs. The room reminded me of Travel Lodge/Premier Inn accommodation. Small and basic. The balcony was almost as big as the room! No tea or coffee making facilities, a safe which you had to pay for and an empty fridge for your personal use. The WiFi connection was abysmal and so frustrating. Breakfast was the biggest disappointment. Served at the poolside cafe as soon as you arrived before you had even had your breakfast that day you were handed a form to complete for the following day asking for your time of arrival at breakfast and your choice of food! Breakfast was served on a tea plate (one sausage, quarter of a tomato, one small piece of bacon - and food not always hot)with small cutlery and orange juice in a plastic glass! Two slices of melon, two slices of cheese and ham and a basket of two pieces of toast and croissants. It was the same every day! We discovered a hop on hop off train at the bottom of the road which we used every day to go into the old town which was a boon but this facility was not advertised in the hotel. The area is quite hilly and could be a problem for someone with limited mobility. Overall for the price paid disappointing experience and wouldn't stay there again and definitely not four star quality.
