Our 3rd time staying at Pine Cliffs... we jumped a quick trip when UK relaxes restrictions.

Located 30 minutes from Faro Airport, Pine Cliffs is a welcome luxury compound, almost a Leisure city.

The resort is observing a high level of Covid-19 protocols with masks required inside and all staff masked and cleaning. My family and I felt exceptionally comfortable/ safe.

The pools are still great, the spa is top notch and the many restaurants still serving great food. Prices are what you would expect for a luxury resort (8€ a beer) but the supermarket just before the resort can give you a chance to stock up on some basics and save a little cash.

Hotel staff are warm and helpful. In particular Julia at the front desk of Ocean Suites was externally helpful when we had to make some last minute changes to our logistics. This is the first class service you expect.

The property is Beautiful, the beach picturesque (and social distanced)... but if you are reading about Pine Cliffs you already know that.

This resort is still top class and highly recommended.

Booked a week with our three children (all nearly four years old) at Pine Cliffs because we had heard so much about how child friendly it is, and also read reviews confirming as much. Unfortunately I have to say all those reviewers should be drug tested, as they cannot possibly have gone here with kids. This is a beautiful golf resort with a number of excellent pools, that at best tolerates children. Nothing here is designed for kids. The family room had beds three foot high with stone floors: wriggly children falling out of bed will end up dead or with cracked skulls. There is not one plastic plate or tumbler in the apartment: every plate is porcelain; every drink vessel is made of thin glass; every piece of cutlery metal. The restaurants themselves are the same, so as soon as you sit down you are frantically moving all glasses and plates away from the children. Drinks ordered for kids are delivered in fragile glass. The buffet restaurant - a must for parents with one child, as it avoids any unnecessary waiting - is closed two days of the week, and was then closed for another two days of our stay because of a corporate function. This went for other restaurants as well, at one point half of them were closed for various reasons. But most disappointing of all was the fabled Kids Club: it is terrible! Our kids have being going to nursery and camps for the last two years so are game for anything, but within a couple of days were refusing to go because it was so boring. There are barely any toys, kids are shoved into a holding pen with some sand, and end up inside watching movies. It is staffed by disinterested looking local teenagers who seem bewildered when faced with a crying child. We weren’t the only ones, plenty of other couples had a similar experience of kids refusing to go after a few days due to it being so boring.
All in all, mega disappointing, especially when it’s spoken of so highly, just cannot believe those reviewers actually have children

Dear Patrick J, Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent stay with us. We take great pride in providing our guests with the highest quality standards and we are very sorry that on this occasion we failed to meet your expectations. Further to your comments, we would kindly like to inform you that we take the safety of our guests very seriously. We do provide bed guards, in our accommodations, on request should the children need this. We appreciate the mention on glass cups and porcelain plates, this is something we are currently working on and will have child friendly dishes in the near future at our restaurants. For all these shortcomings experienced we would like to express our profound apologies and we will surely look further into these matters to implement improvement measures. Hoping that you give us another chance to change your feelings towards our team, we sincerely hope to welcome you back in a near future. Warm regards. Guest Relations Team

Let’s be honest, 2020 is not the year to expect perfection if you are fortunate enough to get away. We have just come back from 10 days at Pinecliffs - 3 at the Ocean Suites and 7 in the Golf apartments. It was lovely to see some familiar faces in the staff team and everyone was doing a fantastic job to keep everyone safe and happy in these difficult Covid times. As regular visitors it would be easy to talk about the things that we missed (zest, O’Grill, the hotel bar to name a few) but it’s better to focus on what we enjoyed and that was a relaxing break in the sun which felt 90% normal. This was down to the great effort by the staff working hard to support guests in the most challenging year and I struggle with some of the negative comments I read here. We experienced great service, great food and a truly relaxing break. We didn’t enjoy waiting for a table at the beautiful Mirador but surely that’s to be expected with social distancing and keeping everyone safe? We never waited more than 15 minutes and as always it was worth it for the beautiful location and drinks, all served in the cleanest environment with a smile. The garden service was also great and the new Pinecliffs Eats a fantastic addition - thanks Rute and the team 😊 It would be great to see this initiative again next year too. All in all, we feel fortunate to have enjoyed a lovely holiday and also to support Pinecliffs at what must be a different time. Well done everyone and we look forward to seeing you next year - hopefully without the masks 🙏🏻🤞

We just spend four days at the Pine Cliff Ocean Suites which is part of the Marriott’s Luxury Collection.

We found the resort to be beautifully landscaped and there were lots of activities including golf, tennis, group sports at the gym, a nice spa, etc.

We also thought that the staff was friendly and accommodating.

The room was comfortable and there was a nice terrace.

Here are the reasons I gave the resort a poor rating:

The resort was very busy as this is peak season. There were not enough sun loungers and we were told to get up early to put our towels on a seat to reserve it. The manager said this is not the way it works here but in reality it is the only way to ensure a chair.

The restaurants were all fully booked. When I arrived on Sunday, the only reservation for the Piri Piri steakhouse was for Friday at 21:00! This was for two guests! The same was true of all the other restaurants. The only option was the all day dining which was often full of small children as it is located next to the pool.

The other problem is when we tried to alert the manager of these issues. I called the front desk several times and was either hung up on or ignored. The manager took two days to finally get ahold of us.

The resort is full of children and there is no adult only outdoor pool or area for those without children.

The room service is all delivered in paper containers and disposable cutlery. It is more like an Uber eats experience rather than what is expected at a luxury resort. They blame it on COVID but this was not the case at other resorts we visited this summer.

The same with the coffee cups and glasses in the room. Plastic or paper only. This is not a matter of COVID as we now know that this is not a means of transmission if all is well washed.

We are very dissatisfied with this experience and would advise guests to stay away until these issues are resolved.

“We get that a lot”. That’s what the reception staff said upon arrival when I observed that it bares little resemblance to the pictures,(yikes). I want to try and be fair as they let me change my two week stay into a 2 night stay . The climate and location were lovely unfortunately that is were it ended, any interaction with staff was excruciating, easily remedied problems in the room neither of tvs worked or the concave sofa bed I deemed it to much effort to try to and rectify, service was none existent everything from water (which you had to pay for to food, rather like journeys in london everything took a hour).. what was very sad is that the food which should be great was very average and not too mention expensive.. again in the interest of being fair maybe the staff were frazzled with serving 10000 people every day , and maybe cueing up for a towel for way too few beds is a normal Portuguese holiday , Covid allowing the extortionate south of France prices seem very reasonable right now ....

Google your integrity is at stake these 5 star reviews don’t look genuine

I use to come here for 20 years. With all family .This year I had the flowing bad experience
- you have to pay bed on the beach : “70€ “ per day
- some days no hot water in the golf suites
- friends paid a Villa (300sqm) 20k/week and still have to rent the Ping pong rakett !

Is the hotel becoming “mean” ?

Not sure to keep coming

We do regret to learn about the shortcomings with the hot water during this recent stay and for this reason we would like to present our most sincere apologies. Hence, a small number of sun lounges, 36 spaces, have been made available to be reserved for a daily fee of 90 euros. We stayed here in early August for 3 nights with our two kids, aged 2 and 6. We had booked a king room with a sofa bed with points, but were told we had to upgrade to a larger room for 4 people total. This happened at another Marriott recently, too. I don’t really think it’s fair when you have two children that can easily sleep on a pull out couch and/or crib. Anyway, we paid an additional $160 per night for a larger room. The larger room was definitely beautiful with a huge rooftop patio and a partial ocean view, however, we would have rather stayed in the other room and spent that add’l $480 on the spa!

The kids were in kids’ club for one full day and two half days. They didn’t seem to enjoy it, unfortunately. They’ve been to other hotel kids’ clubs and loved it, but this one didn’t hit the mark. Not enough activities and too many kids.

The three pools we went to were not overcrowded, but I wish there were more shallow areas so I didn’t have to watch like a hawk the whole time. My almost 3 year old couldn’t really use the pools like we’ve been able to at other hotels that have a gradient/gradual slope where they can splash around in a few inches of water. There was a separate kiddie pool, but it was tiny.

The food was great! We ate at the hotel on the beach for my husband’s birthday and the sea bass was excellent, I’m still thinking about it. You can pick out your fish from the front and 10 mins later it’s on your plate.

The breakfast included with our rate was very good, lots of options for everyone. It gets hella crowded though, so get there early or just be ready to throw ‘bows.

We did use the spa and had wonderful 80 minute deep tissue massages, I think it was $160. seemed fair to me for a hotel like this.

The included beach chairs and canopies down at the waterfront were pretty packed, but regardless, really nice. We ordered a pitcher of sangria one day and some chicken wraps, it did the trick.

All around had a nice time, but not sure we’ll be back unless we’re w/o the kids or the club improves.

I haven't posted a review on here for a very long time because rarely is a hotel so good or so bad that it warrants it. This place does. How bad does it have to be for a family with 2 young children to re-pack everything and move somewhere else within 2 nights of arriving?

It is not a true 5 star in anyway. Service in the restaurants is appalling.
No one answers the phone so if you have an issue ( and I have a lot) you have a hike to the reception where they look at you as if you have 2 heads because you don't think its fantastic.

We were locked out of our room as the key did not work. It was the middle of the day and miles away from reception so I didn't want to walk back with again with kids again.. I called an asked for a key. After 45 mins waiting in the corridor, I trudged back to get a key. Reception simply denied I had ever made a call yet another 20 mins after I got back, someone finally turns up.

The pools are crammed and have no free loungers with everyone hogging them by putting their towel one them at 7 am and appearing at 11 am. I asked for 2 lingers to be brought..never happened. There is no pool service other than main pool. Makes it feel like a 2*

I have no issue paying top price for anything but given the level of service, this place is a disgrace. To put a 4 and 6 yr old in the kids club for 1/2 day is 140 euros. Its a glorified playground. no more. There are additional activities but that is more again! ( if you can even get in)

Writing this just before we leave. I have had some time to do it I have now been waiting 90 mins for breakfast and counting And guess what, I cannot get anyone to answer the phone to find out what is going on

The internet is slow and pathetic and it drives you crazy because everything is done via app. Ordering food etc. I upgraded for 150 euros their elite

It is quite simply the most pathetic and horrendous representation of the marriot brand I have experienced

The hotel is very well located, the view is fantastic, the grounds/ swimming pool area is spectacular, the sunset by the sea and the Mirador champagne bar is breathtaking.

They sell location and this is their strength.
On the other hand, when it comes to details, it leaves much to be desired.

I know that “COVID” has been an excuse for a lot but that should not be the cause for a 5 star hotel to lose quality.

Instant coffee sachets!? What is that??
I've been to 3 and 4 star hotels that had Nespresso machines in the rooms as the most common luxury these days.
When I have asked reception about this they told me they don’t offer this but to my surprise when I walked past one of the rooms next to mine I saw a coffee machine in there.

On another instance I wanted ice and thought it would be readily available but again no .. it was a service and they said would be brought to my room charging me 7€.
There were no glasses or cups and once again it is the fault of COVID!
A scale was available but no batteries .. TV kept cutting the image in all channels.
No higiene kits such as toothbrush usual in all 5 star hotels I’ve been lately.

Buffet breakfast with some quality but no a la cart option which is more than customary in 5 star premisses.

One word to all the staff as they were always super professional and friendly, I want to say a special thank you to the Ukrainian lady housekeeper who I don't remember the name. She was fantastic in all interactions through the stay.

In summary a beautiful place with a hotel that from the inside could be considered a good 3 star by most standards.

Dear R6953KBmarcosm, Thank you for the time taken to share your experience on your recent stay at the Pine Cliffs Resort. While reading your review we noted some mixed feelings towards your experience with us and whilst we are very happy to learn that you enjoyed the location and fantastic views, the swimming pools, the fantastic sunsets from the spectacular Mirador bar, we felt very disappointed when we realized that your overall experience was short of our commitment. In regards to your comments, kindly note that all units have coffee facilities but not all units in the resort have Nespresso/Lavazza machines. Your comments were noted and shared with the management for their consideration. In view to the ice, please note that we do not charge for ice delivery. Please accept our sincere apologies if you were wrongly informed. Please be informed that we do have hygiene kits available for the resort guests, upon request. Our resort provides breakfast buffet in both, Jardim Colonial and Pescador and available a la carte in the Club House restaurant, located by the Golf course. Thank you for your compliments on our associates, and especially to our colleague from housekeeping. Your compliments are truly appreciated and will be certainly shared with the team. Once again, we thank you for your valuable feedback, and we do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our resort to show the result of our efforts. Kind regards Guest Relations Manager

The resort is lovely and there is a variety of food on offer.

If you are staying in the “premium” ocean suite you would expect housekeeping to service the room during the five hours that you were outside. However, not in our case. On returning to our room at 5 pm, we noted someone had come to the room but only opened the curtain and moved a pillow. Housekeeping offered to service then, how can that be achieve given that your children are currently using the bathroom to get ready for dinner. They promised to return at 7 pm whilst you’re out for dinner. On returning at 10 pm, you realise the promise was empty. No one had bothered even come to check over or even restock the basic such as toilet tissue which was running low. We had to call for attendant came at that point to restock. She then tried to straighten the bed, what’s the point after 10 pm when the guest is standing right there ready to turn in?!?!

If the turn down service team even bothered to show up they may have noticed lack of house keeping service. Clearly that was a no show too.

Service at the resort is extremely slow, but having to request for toilet rolls after prior housekeeping escalation is absolutely sub-standards, a first in any place for me.

Even more disappointing is that front desk and housekeeping don’t take responsibility but just try to blame the other and try your pass you around for a resolution. You may not have done it, but take action and resolve it as the guest should not be the one chasing your various team for an additional toilet tissues at 10 pm!
