We stayed here for 2 nights over the Armistice weekend. Excellent location for Ypres and museums nearby. The hotel site is of great historical importance and for a small donation you can enter the garden which has information on what happened in WW1. Our room in the new block was beautifully clean and large. Breakfast offered the usual continental selection. The boiled eggs were a good extra! We arrived after the restaurant shut at 8pm however we were able to order pizza to be delivered. Be aware the restaurant is shut at the weekend. Overall good value and would recommend.

Visited here with friends in May this year. Friendly staff despite the language barrier. Our room in the new annexe was large and spotlessly clean. We ate once in the hotel. food was excellent. Breakfast buffet had plenty of choice, with good quality food catering for all tastes.

Bed was very uncomfortable. Shower is over the bath. Breakfast was continental style which suited us but if you prefer a cooked breakfast then go else where. Restaurant closes at 8pm which is very early. No public transport into / out of Ypres. Bar lacks atmosphere. Very close to many of the WW1 museums and sites. Just behind the hotel is a theme park which was closed when we were there so perhaps best to check this out before booking. A quirky hotel full of lots of 'odd items'.

We booked this hotel as it was close to France where we were exploring/following WWI and WWII. Just outside our hotel was The Hooge crater which still has trenches, bunkers, and remnants of the war. The restaurant closes around 8, breakfast is included. The bathrooms have a tub which was fantastic if you’re a bath person!

Though we were initially disappointed not to be able to stay in downtown Ieper, this location turned out to be an excellent alternative. It is a lovely spot with half-timbered charm on lovely grounds within easy reach of Iepers and the surrounding countryside. Our plan was to visit many WWI sites of significance to Canadians: Essex Farm Cemetery (John McCrae's field hospital), Saint Julian and the Brooding Soldier, Passchendaele as well as the Cloth Hall and Menen Gate. As a result of our stay we also discovered the Hooge Crater, the privately-operated Crater Museum and Hill 60 nearby. Staff were helpful though language seemed to be a bit of a barrier; however, the manager's English was infinitely better than my Belgian, so we can't complain! The room was massive, and very comfortable, though the air quality was what one might expect from an older building lacking a central ventilation system. Our room had a French Balcony (which overlooked a crater from the war) so we could open doors and windows to freshen things up a bit. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate for our needs, with lots of fresh food to keep us going. All of the period furnishings around the hotel created a wonderful and authentic ambience. There was ample on-site parking, and the town of Iepers (Ypres) was a few minutes down the road. If you are a cyclist, there is a bike path leading into Iepers as well as throughout the area, and lots of quiet country roads to explore. Staying here turned out to be a better option for us than we anticipated, and it was excellent value for the money. We wouldn't hesitate to return.
