We have just finished spending two nights in Canalside House. I would really recommend this property if you are looking for a traditional stay in Bruges. The finishing of the junior suite is excellent and the views of the canal are amazing. The location is so central, yet quiet, which can be hard to find in Bruges. The hostess is so welcoming, which added to our wonderful experience. We will definitely return!
First off, this is more of an apartment than a hotel room or single B&B bedroom. This spaciousness right in the center of old town Brugge is exceptional. The upper apartment was great (didn't see the lower apartment); it is steps away from the tourist hordes so evening and night is indeed very quiet. The sounds during the day are actually charming - with any windows open you can hear the sound of the horse-drawn carriages go by on the street side, and the sound of tour boats go by on the canal side. It is not bad in noise level at all, though. The location is great adjacent to historic churches and their church yards - and to charming little squares in the SW corner of the old town - as well as a couple of blocks from the main avenues and canal and squares (Grote Markt) of Brugge. The separate living/lounge/kitchen room in the apartment included a sink, a refrigerator stocked with a few free drinks (nice touch) and some (good!) free coffee packs (not instant!) for the coffee maker. Be aware that there is no lift in Canalside House, you do have to take your luggage up either 1 floor or, to this apartment, 2 floors. Lyn was great with check-in, providing much useful information about the property and about Brugge. Very helpful. We took breakfast one morning, and it was very, very good - nice not to have to decide which restaurant to try, and not to fight the tourist crowds. It was a very large, multi course breakfast (fruit, eggs cooked to order, breads, a bit of cheese), served in a room with a fireplace (though not the room overlooking the canal - reserved for Bonifacia B&B residents). We also took advantage of the B&B car park (a private garage with space for perhaps 2 guest vehicles). Within a block are a couple of the well-known Brugge museums. (Be aware that most museums in Brugge are closed Mondays - but all shops and places like the tower and City Hall museum are open.) The TV even had a couple of channels in English - not just BBC or CNN Europe but actual TV shows or movies. I am so glad we decided to stay here a couple of nights.…
A gorgeous two suite guesthouse. We stayed in the larger suite on the first floor. Lovely bedroom with view of more private part of the canal. Huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub and a lounge area with a mini kitchen and table. The owner was so nice and very helpful with maps and dining suggestions the property is a 5 min walk to the center, it is in a quiet area where we were able to leave the windows open at night. The bed was very comfortable with lovely bedding. Everything was spotless and in the entryway you have huge closets for all your clothes as well as suitcases. No elevator just stairs but was not to difficult with our larger American suite cases... I cannot say enough goood things about this guesthouse. It created an even better experience for our 3 day stay in Bruges…
This is part of another luxury guest house, only two suites, situated on the canal in the center of Bruges. A short 5 minute walk to the main part of town. We stayed in the Master Suite, which is superb, lovely bathroom, ample storage space and a lovely bedroom with breathtaking views to the canal and medieval church. (For 'In Bruges' film lovers, it is next to the area where he meets the girl on set for the first time and the opening shot is next to the property!) We were greeted by the host with a glass of champagne and she could not of been more flexible and helpful. I simply cannot fault the property, the owner, the town and the whole of Bruges itself!
We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary , just fabulous, we spent our honeymoon at the Bonifacius guesthouse owned by the same owner and were greeted there by lynn by the fire with a glass of champagne, just magical, everything was explained and she helpfully booked some restaurants for us. Our suite a few doors down was luxurious and private, very quiet at night, We opted to take breakfast at the Bonifacius and you must have it at least once, everything you could want in the cosy room by the fire, fruit, cheese, pastries, breads, choice of cooked food, champagne and yes it's bruges, chocolate ! Bruges is magical all dressed up for Christmas, highly recommended
