Welcome to Hostel Uppelink, a family owned hostel situated in the historic center of Ghent. Enjoy spending the night in our 13th century building, but also try out our kayak rental service and our daily free walking tours (one in English and one in Spanish - both leave at 10 am and 1 pm). On Tuesdays and Thursdays we also organize Belgian Beer Tastings at our lounge.

There is some good and bad points about this hostel. I will start with the bad ones: Staff were ok, helpful but not that friendly. I was shocked how the hostel was dirty and the toilets smelled A LOT. The toilets are mixed but that doesn`t mean anything, not if it was daily cleaned. I stayed for 3 days and I didn`t see anyone cleaning (not in the morning, afternoon or night). There is only 1 "hairdryer" available and is not even a hairdryer so I don`t know how girls deal with it in winter. Reception is tiny so to check in and check out was a nightmare due to the business it was that weekend and only one computer available at the reception. Not enough toilets in comparison with how big the hostel is (only one available at each floor with one female and one male cabinets), so it was common to be busy. Room was also dirty, but at least wasn`t smelly. Good points: It`s super easy to get around the city from there as they are located in the centre. It`s also good for meeting other travelers if you`re solo like I was. There is a charger for each bed and lockers in the room. Beds are comfy and sheets are very clean! The view from the room is also amazing. Breakfast can be hired one day before for 4.80 which is a good price in my opinion for how nice the breakfast is and quite some options of fruits, tea, juice, bread, eggs, cake, ham and cheese. There is a vending machine in the hostel so if you`re hungry at night like I was, go for it! There is waffles, chocolate, chips and water for a far price. Showers was strong and you could adjust the temperature. Felt very safe there at all times. Would recommend in less busy times.

This hostel hands down is located in the best location of the town. It's right in the heart of the center. The view from my room was incredible. Walkable everywhere. The bedroom I stayed in was big. Lockers were available in the room, big enough to put backpacks but not suitcase. Love the bathroom layout as each stall had their own changing area separate from the shower area. The downside was that there was no elevator in this hostel. Also no free breakfast. The bar / common area in hostel was not great for socializing. I found this hostel not too great of a place to meet people. I don't think I saw anyone utilizing the bar during my stay. I did the walking tour in the morning, which was a small group of 5 of us. The one in the afternoon had more participants. The 1.5-hour walking tour was a great way to get to know the city and the history behind it.

The hostel is located in the heart of Ghent, right in the medieval city center, beside the river. It's an amazing feeling to get up early at 7am, and watch as the sun rises. But only consider there are few toilets and showers (because it is an old building). Also they do not give you painkillers, even if you are hurting a lot, because you could be allergic.

We have stayed at the room 1 that has amazing views on the city and was quite noisy at night. The room and all the facilities were clean, bed sheets were kindly provided by the hostel itself. The only thing to remember that if you want to use a locker, you'll need a padlock that costs 5 Euro at the hostel. The main advantages: location (in the heart of the city centre with diff cafes in the area), best views, price (we paid 20 Eur incl. local tax per person per night), friendly staff. Be aware that you can check in before 22-23, and check out from 8.
