We booked this hotel for 2 nights from july 1 to juli 3. Arriving on july 1, 14.50 hr nobody at the reception. Called several times, even the emergency number, no answer. After 1 hour we left to look for a parking. At about 18.00 we returned to the hotel. Still nobody at the reception. We met there 3 other guests with the same problem. Very very bad service!!! We went to IBIS hotel where we found a nice room.
Got to be the worst hotel we have ever stayed in.If only we had read the reviews before booking.the only positive thing was location. Our room was very poorly lit(maybe to hide the bad state of decor)We were amazed at the condition of the towels, one had more holes than material, frayed edges needed a least two to dry oneself. The bathroom was at least better lit so we could leave the door open to give more light in bedroom.the creaking floorboards that the stained carpet covered was so noisy.amenities such as toiletries was poor, had to ask for milk ,fridge did not work.Had a power cut during first night no emergency lighting it did not come back on till 8.30am Breakfast was nothing special in a very cramped room, which made it very akward to leave the table without asking fellow guest to move.I could go on.On contacting Best Western i was told it is not one of their hotels. To sum it up it is a very overpriced bad hotel claiming to be 3*.…
The location is amazing, you can walk everywhere. Very limited parking options in the city though so be prepared to look for parking if you are arriving with a car. The staff speaks well English and is very kind. The room is very spacious and enough equipped. Everything in the room is extremely old though, there were a couple lamps etc. broken in ours. Even the towels are so old but everything was clean enough. Wifi works well. Breakfast is very good. Definitely recommended for a short stay.
Sad to say the poor reviews are all accurate. I so rarely post poor reviews but save yourself from this booking. Stayed here with friends unfortunately booked by someone else. Fire safety zero, dirty rooms carpets, also bugs in one of the rooms that one of our friends got bitten badly. Cannot understand how it has passed any inspections.
Value for money. Small room but well maintained. In the heart of the city. Well connected with tram to main station. Very cordial and friendly staff. Made it sure that we dont have any problems and made the stay comfortable
We booked this hotel at the last minute after some change of plans. The location is good but the rest of the hotel is awful. It is dirty as is evidenced by the linens, carpeting and paint. We had two rooms on an upper floor that both had a fire escape that connected to 4-5 rooms on that floor. I opened the door to the balcony/fire escape and the weather stripping fell off the door. The door would not close or lock after that so anyone at any time could get into our room. I brought the desk clerk, Raphael, up to look at it and he said that the door to the fire escape/balcony was supposed to be screwed shut. There was a tiny little screw that would not keep the door from opening (good news if there is a fire, bad news if you want to keep yourself or your valuable safe). Raphael kept trying to tell me the room was safe despite not being able to lock the door to keep anyone on that floor from walking in. I pointed this out and he said that the other guests were nice! There was no way that I was leaving my wife and daughter in a room without a lock. He agreed to give me my money back but could not get my credit card to accept the refund so we left. The hotel then proceeded to if ignore my emails about the refund. I booked through booking.com and I had to get them involved multiple times. They finally got Raphael to admit over the phone to my version of events so booking.com was nice to refund the money themselves because the hotel would not. Stay clear of this place!…
price too hight for a three star hotel ! good breakfast though.... quite dirty ! need more attention. Bathroom ok. réception ok for help and advices. Room 14 : don"t take : window open on smoking area just beneath.
We stayed there last night. First impression was the filthy mat at the entrance which already had me wondering. Room 43. We first noticed the door to the "balcony" didn't close, we went out, and it wasn't a balcony, but a fire escape which passed other rooms so anyone had access to our room. My husband went to ask for another room, then I looked around, thick dust everywhere, crumbs on the carpet, they would have had to pay me to stay there, and I probably still wouldn't have. The lady on reception was very friendly and gave us another room, which looked promising. Room 30, much bigger, and a big bathroom, windows that opened and closed and tea making facilities. We just left our suitcase and went out. On returning, I began to notice things. A used plastic cup on the back of the bed, thick dust, maybe not as thick as the first room. The white window frame in the bathroom, was grey. I wonder if the place has ever been cleaned. I wanted to take a bath to ease my aching joints....No plug and no shower attachment to wash my hair, but we did have a shower too. I washed my hair in the shower, and then put a cup in the plug hole so the water would stay in the bath. I was quite fed up with it all by then. The lid of the toilet seat was broken off and just lying there, and one night table was gone with just the plugs it should have been attached to. Of course, I then opened the bed to inspect the sheets which looked clean enough, however the bites we got during the night made me wonder what may have been lurking there!! The whole place smelt musty. Of course we had the windows wide open. This morning, we made our way to the breakfast room, it just looked dirty, holes in the wall covering, paint peeling from the ceiling, The wooden frame I was looking at was filthy. I did take a lot of photos of the situation in the second room, but not in the first room which was the worst of the two. The breakfast itself was ok, so you could say it wasn't all bad, just 99 %. To think we actually paid money to stay there, NEVER AGAIN.…
And not just the mouldy decor. Took my wife and daughters for dinner one night.. the over familiar aging male waiters actually made fun of us and our Irish accents ... "wait !! What!!" But it's completely true. The place is dirty , smelly , mouldy and all that goes with that... I dread to think what the kitchen is like. If I ever got stuck for somewhere to stay in Ghent , I'd prefer stay out in the cold rain... don't ruin your stay by even visiting this establishment. They'll never see any of us again or anyone that will listen to us... also one of the old bald guys tried to hit on my wife ( she only told me when we'd returned home)
We stayed here in May 2019 with our 2 children for 1 night and that was long enough. The hotel was dirty, smelly, uncared for and overall in a bad way. Our family room was large but smelt of mould. There was a hole in the wall and damp patches around the ceiling. The bathroom was also old and mouldy. We tried to find alternative accommodation for the evening but it was a public holiday in Gent so all the hotels were full. Our advise would be to look else where!
