I like how we are always taken care of in NH hotels. Arriving for check in I realized I lost my credit card and couldn’t complete the payment straight away. The hostess was so kind and understanding, allowed me to make a cash deposit to access the room and relax before finding a solution. She even landed me her own personal phone charger ! Thank you so much.
Then at breakfast Markee was very smiley and engaging, attentive to every guest. As always breakfast is a great value for money, large large choice and fresh products, you can make your own waffles ;)
The overall features of the hotel are nice but it really is the staff that makes the difference and make a good hotel a great one.
Thanks, keep up the good job !

Gent is a wonderful city full of architectural delights and history. Our family trip was made even more special as we were there for the annual Gent festival which was taking place right outside our NH hotel! Totally unforeseen and totally worth attending. Even though the festival was so close to the hotel we were allocated rooms on a quieter, inside-facing street and got a good night's rest. We also slept well knowing that our car was safe in the NH parking lot downstairs. I enjoyed a quiet morning moment in the gym whilst the rest of the family slept peacefully. Definitely worth revisiting Gent and staying at the NH hotel!

Last minute booking after checking out of another hotel. Arriving early at the hotel we were able to store cases securely whilst we explored the City prior to checking in. Hotel is in a good location close to centre of city, room was fine at a reasonable cost. Check in was a little slow and when paying for the stay was charged an additional 50 Euro for any charges against the room. Didn’t have a problem with this as we were intending to use the bar and restaurant, however I wasn’t told that the restaurant was closed, the bar didn’t open during the day and was closed Sunday. We were able to have a drink on the Saturday night, lady behind bar was efficient but slight delay in ordering drinks as she was busy preparing fresh orange juice for breakfast next morning. My advice therefore to anybody being asked for Euro charge to room would be to check first what was available . Check out on morning was extremely slow as was only being manned by one person. Although we had a pleasant stay it would appear to me that it is being run with minimum staff levels.

Dear M. Rushford, Thank you very for your review about our great location and rooms. At the check-in time we just blocked €50.00 from your credit card as guarantee for the minibar and the bar. This amount was released at the check-out time. We already informed our Food & Beverage about your complain in the bar. Our apologies for the inconvenience caused. Kind regards, Jordi, Back Office, NH Gent Belfort

Had several issues in this hotel and has sadly been over a week since I sent an email with no response at all, so hoping a review here will help…

Visited with my pregnant wife and was given a room that was far away from the reception and with a bath that would be dangerous for anyone, let alone a heavily pregnant woman.

Other issues include -

Toilet door also barely closed
Remnants of last guests with bottle caps in the room
Dead bugs crushed on basically every surface (which makes sense being as having the window open for 10 minutes led to mosquitos being in the room..)
Shower in the bath with no bath mat, again not so great for a pregnant woman and no hand rails to hold onto when showering
Fridge initially unplugged, once plugged in it was very noisy and had to be unplugged again.
Towel rack & shower rod barely screwed into the wall so was loose
Damage and drawings on the furniture
Bathroom light flickers when turned on
Shower changes temperature constantly when being used

There were some positives but sadly the experience has been marred by bad customer service and a complete lack of accountability from both the hotel and reservations department, which means I can give no more than one star. Extremely disappointing.

We stayed for two nights in late May. The location is fantastic and the staff friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, with the super Ana at reception and the very hard working food and beverage manager Sven standing out!! We were given a very large room at the front of the hotel which was much appreciated. The breakfast offering was extensive and of very high quality... The housekeeping team were hard working and kept our room very clean and tidy. But, the let down was in the small detail like chipped furniture in the bedroom, a plate of half eaten food put down in a plant in the reception area that stayed there for most of the day!!! Its small items like this that make the difference. I accept that the hotel caters for a lot of business clients and is therefore very busy but attention to detail is paramount. Hence a high four rating, not quite a five, but very nearly.

With some of our party unhappy with our original hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to book 2 rooms online at this hotel for the following day at very reasonable cost. Being already in the city, we arrived too early to check in, but our luggage was placed in a secure area until we would return later. When we did come to check in, it was a little slow, as not all stations were being staffed. Our rooms were everything we could have expected, modern, clean and comfortable with all expected facilities. Breakfasts in Belgian City hotels always appear expensive, so as we are not 'big breakfast' types we booked room only, and bought pastries from the little shops at the end of the street near the centre and had them in the room with a coffee. The staff were helpful and as efficient as numbers allowed, (when I came to check out, only 1 receptionist who was dealing with a customer, so i used the 'key drop' after a 15 minute wait, which would have continued). Our biggest gripes concerned the bar and restaurant. No hotel restaurant available for the duration of our stay seemed strange, but not as strange as the hotel bar being closed during the day time AND on Sunday evenings. We enjoyed a couple of drinks in the well stocked and ably managed by one person bar on the Saturday evening and simply couldn't understand why a hotel bar should not be available to residents. It seemed a number of guests had expressed their annoyance at this. The upside of this is that we discovered a number of excellent little bars and pubs in the city.

The room was large but dated in particular the bathroom (blue/green tiles!?). Various issues encountered including: sockets not working, squeaky bed, ineffective air-con, big scratches on TV, tap/sink leaking and spilling water on bathroom floor.

Breakfast was ok but the hot (warm) food had been out for too long to the point where everything was dry. The most disappointing part was the waffle in a packet that breaks up in your hand - it was awful and they should be removed from the menu.

Overall, a disappointing stay. The location may be central but Ghent is a small city and there are many hotels within a short walk of the center. Having spent the previous few nights in another 4* hotel in a different city, the difference between that one and NH Gent Belfort is night and day. Had I of been asked the question "how was your stay?" when checking out, I would have provided some of these comments then...but I wasn't asked.

The location is really great for a city trip and the rooms are spacious with nice views. However, it seems like they weren’t maintained or restored for years. Furniture and carpets look old, dirty (stained) and frankly disgusting. From what we understand the rooms in the executive area are in better shape but we were on the third floor and everything looked dirty and old.

During breakfast we noted that most dishes weren’t properly cleaned and still had stains from other meals. The buffet had nice pastries but everything else wasn’t enjoyable (juices and eggs were not fresh etc.). Considering that breakfast wasn’t included in the room and quite costly we were very disappointed by the low quality of the food.

The hotel seems to be focusing on business travelers where companies pay in advance for big groups, so the small bar was very crowded before dinner time.

On the positive side, the hotel seemed quiet for being so central and there wasn’t much noise from other rooms either.

The NH Belfort is a large, modern, clean hotel located several blocks from Gravensteen Castle and Sint Baafs. We stayed in a standard king sized room on the third floor. It was quiet, and we had a lovely view out over the roofs of the castle.

Pros: The breakfast buffet is worth the money. It is huge and there are a lot of options of both hot and cold items. The dining room is large. so there is plenty of room. Our bathroom was spacious compared to other European hotels we have stayed in, and there was plenty of room to hang a clothesline in the tub. It is a modern hotel, so there is space for a desk, table and chairs, and decent closet space with drawers.

Cons: It's not really a con, but if you are looking for a hotel with character, this isn't it. It's a perfectly nice hotel, but it is not historic.

We always try to find an NH Hotel when we go on holiday in Europe. The ones in Genoa and Turin were excellent. This NH Gent Belfort is in an excellent location for exploring Ghent. It is a short tram ride away from the train station.
We had a friendly welcome and HURRAh the room was ready when we arrived @ lunchtime. What a bonus.
I always stay in the classic (cheapest) room option. We only sleep in the room. So we were given a room in the non renovated part of the hotel. The room was large with two good single beds (one person hogs the covers and this stops this). The view was an inner courtyard - so what. The bathroom was old fashioned but very clean.
We went out and came back and the room was not cool. I cranked up the air conditioning up and after 30 minutes still balmy so I went to the desk Frederick wanted me move us to another room but the air con was the same as our room so he offfered complimentary breakfast.
My fault. I should have insisted on a room with air con. When I pay 140 Euro for a room with a/c I want a/c. Spent a sleepless night. I even took the duvet out form the case and left the window open (to no avail). This is a first world problem but still this is disappointing. Please fix the air conditioning in room 226.
If you do plump for the breakfast I have to say it is really impressive. Tons of choices - great scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, bread, coissant, etc. You could not ask for more plus loads of places to sit inside and outside. Lovely breakfast room.
Note to hotel: when you renovate please add phone charging plugs. There was like one when the tv was unplugged. It is 2023. Also new pillows with some support would be excellent.
Staff - lovely but please fix the air con. It is summer and Gent/Ghent has alot to offer especially the Gent Altarpiece.
