spacious comfortable well-appointed room. Warm welcome from our host, hostess and help who went out of their way to be helpful. We particularly appreciated being able to make a cup of tea in our room.
It's a little hard to find as it's behind 2 large green wooden gates, kept locked. Once inside it opens up into a nice brick courtyard. The room is downstairs...not for handicapped. It's small...the bedroom and bathroom are separated by a frosted glass window so make sure that doesn't bother you. The bed was very comfortable. Also a pull out couch. We didn't have breakfast as it was $$ extra. Parking costs as well...but take it as it's safer and there's not much street parking. The neighborhood is culturally colorful and we enjoyed the kabob shop on the corner for dinner. It's about a 20 minute walk to old town. The hosts were very nice.
I spent 4 nights here and it was a wonderful experience. Clean, beautiful, comfortable - everything you need. Please do opt for the meals. I had breakfast - so plentiful, varied and perfect. I never ate out at all in Ghent because I saved part of my breakfast in the refrig. and made a sandwich at night. Lovely people. There could not be any better place to stay in the City. A real travel oasis. Lovely people, you will feel at home.
We are a retired couple on a cycling tour of UK, Netherlands and Belgium. Our hosts were particularly welcoming and obliging, particularly in having our bikes serviced. The property is an oasis in the middle of a bustling city. The room was particularly comfortable and the breakfasts excellent. It is in easy walking distance of many restaurants in the local area and only a little further to the centre of the city and its wonderful historical attractions. It is also very close to cycle routes both to and out of the city.
Treat #1: Once you pass through the old wooden doors onto the property you simply feel relaxed and at home. Chantal, Joel and their kids are wonderfully warm, genuine people who go out of their way to make your experience of Gent truly memorable. Their dog Vina is an absolute sweetheart that you can cuddle the whole day long. Treat #2: The accomodation was very comfortable and even though we could have enjoyed the amazing breakfast (Chantal scrambles an egg to PERFECTION!!) in our room, we preferred to eat in the house, chatting and laughing with the family in the morning. Treat #3: The B&B isn't located directly in town, which means so can really experience a bit more of the city than just the regular touristy routes. The fact that they offered us bicycles to use for our entire stay made whizzing around town so much more fun and meant we didn't have to move our car an inch from its convenient parking spot. Treat #4: We loved the sense of humour, lightness, and open nature of our hosts. Not only were they very informative about their city, but they are simply interesting individuals who have loads of interesting stories to tell, and if you are lucky you will even be treated with a private piano concert by daughter Kato...a nice way to start the day!!! Thank you so much!…
